T. Roosevelt's Drakeford Chooses Terps (Updated)

Post sports writer Alan Goldenbach breaks this news:

Theodore Roosevelt senior linebacker Darin Drakeford committed to Maryland on Monday afternoon, choosing the Terps over Illinois, which has had success recruiting the Washington area (especially D.C. public schools) thanks to assistant head coach and former Maryland recruiting coordinator Mike Locksley, a Ballou graduate.

Drakeford was on the Maryland campus Monday when he visited Coach Ralph Friedgen to tell him of his committment. Maryland offensive coordinator and recruiting ace James Franklin was on the Roosevelt sideline for the Rough Riders' game Oct. 10 against Coolidge.

The 6-foot-1, 220-pound Drakeford was a second-team All-Met last year, when he set a school record with 22 sacks. He is one of top all-around athletes in D.C. public schools, starring also on the Rough Riders' basketball team that advanced to the City Title Game last March.

Here's a Recruiting Spotlight video on Drakeford:

I am glad Darrin Drakeford did not consider the "University of Penn State".

He is not Terps former offensive coordinator. He is their former recruiting coordinator and running backs coach. He is Illinois' offensive coordinator.

I am glad that Darin Drakeford chose the University of Maryland - and did not even consider attending the University of North Carolina.

Go Terps!

Josh, why so much love for illinois in piece about a Maryland commit? You graduate from the illini, or something? j/k

Josh, Since you hate UMD so much, covering these commits must be painful for you. Please move to Champain and cover your love U.

Darin Drakeford is a highly over rated recruit - from the grade inflated DC Public School System - best of luck to the Academic Counselors at the University of Maryland.

NC State – 27
Maryland - 10

Maryland will finish with a 5-7 record.

I am extremely happy that Penn State is ranked number 3 in the country - and very soon to be ranked number 1 - this will definitely hurt Maryland's recruiting this year.

I am happy that Maryland is no longer recruiting Tavon Austin.

Jelani Jenkins, Travis Hawkins and Isaac Holmes will be signing with the University of Florida.

Go Tar Heels
