Jenkins to Maryland?
That's what one reader emailed me asking about:
Hi Josh, My name is Matt, and I'm a Maryland alum and football fan. Was reading up on your "Recruiting Insider" column - specifically about Jelani Jenkins, and I'm wondering what you think the chances are that the Terps will land that kid? Or are we doomed to lose yet another top state recruit to Penn State or Illinois? I've got to believe that given the level of parity in the ACC the last couple of years, a school like Maryland would be very attractive. Going to Penn State or Illinois means you'll likely get dominated by Ohio State and Michigan year-in and year-out. Obviously Penn State is a bit better this year, but some of their top talent will be leaving in the next year or two. Anyway, I'm wondering if you've heard anything else about Jenkins and how he feels about playing for Maryland....
Well, I haven't heard too much, as Jenkins is playing things very closely right now, not even talking about which schools he will take official visits to. That said, I would be surprised if he picks Maryland. It's nothing against the Terps, but it can be quite hard to keep top players close to home, regardless of where you are. Maybe I'll be wrong, but my instinct says he will wind up choosing a school less than a short drive from home.
