Ruffin-Pratt Chooses UNC
Colleague Preston Williams has the story in today's paper:
T.C. Williams senior Tierra Ruffin-Pratt, the reigning All-Met girls' basketball player of the year, committed today to the University of North Carolina.
The 6-foot guard, a first-team Parade all-American last season, chose the Tar Heels over Duke, Virginia and Rutgers, she said last night.
Ruffin-Pratt, a two-time All-Met, averaged 25 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists last year to lead T.C. to an unbeaten regular season. She scored at least 17 points in every game.
At North Carolina, Ruffin-Pratt will join another 2008 All-Met, freshman post player Chay Shegog, from Brooke Point. Iman McFarland (Bishop McNamara), a senior forward, and Laura Broomfield (St. Mary's Ryken), a freshman forward, are other Tar Heels from the Washington area. Howard forward Nyree Williams also signed with North Carolina.
"When I was on my official visit [to UNC], I felt real comfortable with the coaching staff and with the team," Ruffin-Pratt said. "That was the overall [basis for the] decision."
"She felt like that was the best fit for her academically, as well as basketball-wise," said her mom, Deneen Pratt. "I think she just felt like they were the best fit for her as far as their style of play and the way she likes to get up and down the court. I think that pushed them a lot to the forefront."
