PVI a Team to Watch

Working on preseason basketball (yeah, I know, the season has tipped already, but our previews run next week) notes, Paul VI Catholic is one team that many coaches have on their radar as much improved. Apparently, with good reason. Coach Glenn Farello has two players who have signed LOI for college scholarships and at least four more already receiving strong interest.

Already signed are All-Met guard Erick Green (who transferred over the summer from Millbrook) to Virginia Tech and 6-8 center Raven Barber to Mount St. Mary's.

The Panthers also added 6-3 forward Deon Jones, the younger brother of U-Va's Jeff Jones. The Jones family recently moved from Philadelphia to Fairfax to be closer to Charlottesville. Though only a sophomore, Jones already has heard from Virginia Tech, Xavier, George Mason and VCU.

"He gets to the basket, he's athletic and he can shoot it," Farello said. "He's a slasher and a strong, athletic rebounder."

Eugene McCrory, a 6-7 junior power forward, is hearing from the likes of George Mason, Old Dominion, VCU, Loyola and Massachusetts. Junior guard Darren Warren, an excellent shooter, is getting interest from members of the CAA and Patriot League. And junior guard Blake Bozeman is the son of Morgan State Coach Todd Bozeman.
