Thigpen Nixes UT; Is He Bound for Notre Dame?
Insider super/special correspondent Matt Stanmyre, files this dispatch:
Stonewall Jackson senior running back Damien Thigpen will sign an letter-of-intent on Wednesday but it won't be to Tennessee, the school he verbally committed to last year.
Thigpen's coach at Stonewall, Mike Dougherty, sent me an e-mail this morning, stating: "Damien Thigpen has changed his choice of colleges and will be signing this Wednesday."
Dougherty declined to identify which school Thigpen would be signing with, responding via e-mail that "The family wants it quiet until" Wednesday.
Thigpen, a 5-foot-8, 170-pound speedster, changing his committment was a move that had been speculated since Tennessee Coach Phillip Fulmer resigned during the season and was replaced later by Lane Kiffin. It was reported that Kiffin told Thigpen that he likely did not fit into the team's plans under the new coach and that Thigpen would be taking visits to UCLA and Notre Dame.
