Two Quick Reads; Williams and Malone Hit It Off?

Two quick early-morning hits, both interesting:

Are Curtis Malone and Gary Williams set to become pals? That might be a bit strong, but kudos to whoever arranged last week's meeting between Williams and Malone, who runs the area's best travel-team basketball organization. While it is probably too much to suggest that perhaps this will give the Terps an edge when it comes to recruiting D.C. Assault's top players, it certainly can't hurt. Consider that Assault's pipeline to K-State has three players in the Wildcats' top eight players, with standouts Wally Judge and Rodney McGruder set to hit the Little Apple in the fall.

Eitan Chemerinski, a 6-9 forward at Jewish Day, might be the area's least-known Division I recruit, bound for Cornell and leading Jewish Day to a 22-0 record so far this season.

I am guessing Mr Malone is terrified of the possibility of the NCAA or the IRS investigating all the "tribute" paid to him and his ilk for players over the years. GW was very smart not to get involved in the NCAA's version of the MLB steroid scandal. If a government regulator starts looking into this it could be very bad for a lot of people and a lot of schools-not Gary or the Terps though.

Gary Willams couldn't be a better caretaker of that program.
