Coach Says Benimon Just Waiting on Paperwork
Just got off the line with Fauquier Coach Wayne Brizzi, who says that Jerrelle Benimon is simply waiting for Georgetown's letter-of-intent to arrive.
"We haven't signed any papers, it's not official, but they're sending papers out today or tomorrow and he's going to sign them and send them back in when he gets them," Brizzi said.
It's quite a finish for Benimon, who was lightly - if at all - recruited until late in the season, when former colleague Matt Stanmyre wrote about Benimon.
"That kind of helped, a couple people saw that article," Brizzi said. "Towson called. Clemson came in after that article. Mississippi called. We got some excitement after that."
Still, until Georgetown made its scholarship offer, Benimon's only scholarship offers were from Old Dominion and Longwood and some Division II schools.
"Towards the end of our season, [Georgetown] started coming to a couple of our games and a couple other schools got interested," Brizzi said. "He went down on a couple Saturdays to check things out. They came ou and watched open gym and one thing led to another and they wanted to sign him."
