Time for More All-Star Games
With the NHSI in the books, the high school basketball season winds down with more all-star games. The Capital Classic is Thursday at American University's Bender Arena and next week, on April 18, the Reebok All-American Game will be held at Bender.
The Reebok main game features several players with local ties. Guard Maurice Creek (Indiana) went to Oxon Hill before finishing at Hargrave Military Academy. Forward Terrell Vinson was an All-Met at Montrose Christian last year before transferring to St. Frances of Baltimore. Forward Isaiah Armwood (Villanova) is from Montrose Christian. Forward Naji Hibbert (Texas A&M) played for DeMatha the past two years. Rodney McGruder (Kansas State) was an All-Met as a Carroll junior before transferring to a Florida private school. National Christian forward Dante Taylor (Pittsburgh) is this year's All-Met Player of the Year -- the winter All-Met section should be online soon. And forward Thomas Robinson (Kansas) played at Eastern and Riverdale Baptist before transferring to Brewster Academy for his senior year.
The local team in the prelim game: guard Keith Thomas, Gwynn Park; guard Lasan Kroman, Eleanor Roosevelt (George Washington); guard Erick Green, Paul VI Catholic (Virginia Tech); guard Rashad Whack, Bishop McNamara (George Mason); forward Raven Barber, Paul VI Catholic (Mount St. Mary's); forward Ian Hummer, Gonzaga (Princeton); forward Jamal Olasewere, Springbrook; forward Raphiael Putney, Woodbridge (Massachusetts); center Talib Zanna, Bishop McNamara (Pittsburgh). Crossland guard Percy Woods will play for the regional team in the prelim game.
