Top Prospect Leaves Frederick for Prep School

So top prospect J.R. Ferguson is leaving St. John's Catholic Prep in Frederick to play his senior year at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va. It's a curious move, with Ferguson expressing his desire to move up in recruiting rankings as the chief reason for the transfer. The question here is why is that so important? Does it matter whether you are the best, third-best or 44th-best if you have your choice of scholarships? Now, if he had said he wanted to play against better competition to improve as a player, that might be different. Same goes for wanting to be in a situation to make sure you qualify academically. But saying you want to be ranked the No. 1 recruit in the country?
