College Recruiters Find New Hotbed at Wise

In its first three years of existence, the newest public high school in Prince George's County produced a grand total of zero division I-A or I-AA scholarship players. This offseason, however, Wise High in Upper Marlboro has been a destination for college recruiters. Three rising seniors have made college commitments, another holds scholarship offers and Coach DaLawn Parrish thinks that three more will end up receiving scholarships.

Linebacker Titus Till committed to Maryland over the winter, defensive lineman Anthony McDaniel (6 feet, 243 pounds) recently chose Richmond over an offer from Delaware and wide receiver Trevon Butler (6-0, 170) picked Old Dominion, which has plenty of local players on its roster as it gets ready to make its return to college football this fall.

Also, defensive end-tight end Rahsaan Moore (6-2, 235) keeps racking up (mostly I-AA) scholarship offers, with Richmond, Old Dominion, James Madison, New Mexico, Liberty, Towson and Delaware State on his list. Parrish said Moore plans to take his time before making a decision. Cornerbacks Andre Makell (5-10, 160), and Jabril Baldwin (5-9, 160) and defensive tackle Charles Owens (6-1, 305) should receive offers this fall, Parrish expects.

"They know the things I ask of them and they're more into the program as a whole," Parrish said, explaining that the fact this is the first class of seniors to start their high school career at Wise is a key reason for having so many potential college players. "They don't know anything else. Of course, these kids also work hard, which is a tribute to their parents' dedication to the program and themselves."
