Linganore Duo in College Park?
Could Maryland land Linganore standouts Robby Havenstein and Zach Zwinak?
Yes, but . . .
Havenstein, the All-Met lineman, and Zwinak, rated by some as the nation's top high school fullback, both plan official campus visits to College Park in December. Lancers Coach Rick Conner said it was his understanding Maryland coaches hope to make a big splash by bringing several top recruits to campus and get them to commit.
That said, the Terrapins certainly will face a challenge as both players plan to use their full complement of five college-paid visits.
Havenstein, who is 6 feet 7 and has slimmed down to 330 pounds (from 345, said Conner, noting that Havenstein ran one mile in 7 minutes 24 seconds last month), will take his first visit this weekend, flying to Wisconsin on Saturday morning to see the Badgers play Northern Illinois.
Next weekend Havenstein will head to Wake Forest and he also plans to visit Penn State and Virginia. Virginia offensive line coach Dave Borbely was at Linganore on Friday.
Zwinak's top two choices are Virginia Tech and Penn State, Conner said, and he also is considering Maryland, Pittsburgh and North Carolina.
Two Linganore players already have made their division I-AA choices, with wide receiver Ryan Dixon pledging to James Madison and lineman Kyle Tucker committing to Monmouth.
