So, about that trip to New Mexico ...

Maybe Ricardo Young just wanted a weekend of warm weather.

Another source close to the H.D. Woodson All-Met quarterback said that Young mailed in his paperwork Tuesday to Virginia Tech confirming his enrollment beginning in January. The source also said Young has made plans to leave for Blacksburg on Jan. 10.

Young has seemed pretty solid on Virginia Tech throughout this season. Given the sustained success enjoyed by Virginia Tech, as well as New Mexico's prolonged struggles, this decision seems like a no-brainer for Young.

But then, why would Young visit New Mexico, Dec. 5-6, six weeks before he is scheduled to enroll at Virginia Tech? While signing the enrollment papers is a pretty convincing sign that he seems headed to becoming Hokie, Young is bound only by the national letter-of-intent, which he cannot sign until February 3, 2010.

Until then, Young is free game in the recruiting world.

I think the kids Locksley recruits to New Mexico are making mistakes. Locksley is choking on his own blood by recruiting DC harder than Dallas-Ft. Worth. A lot of the DC area players will experience culture shock being at UNM. Locksley will likely be fired by year 4, if he goes that far. The coach is already on shaky ground. Kids 17 and 18 years old cannot rationalize that fact. Kids need to realize their futures if the coach moves on or gets fired.

joedon00- What an ignorant comment. Coach Mike Locksley is in fine shape at UNM and what culture shock? He has had 40 scholarships to offer in his 2 classes and thus far 1/4 of them are DC/Maryland players... Look for that number to increase as these players all have a shot to not only play but start all 4 years... BTW- UNM has also has verbals from an all state Texas player and a super LB from Dallas. They also look to be picking up a pair of Defensive linemen from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area... Thanks for noticing and caring...

Ricardo Young can and would start from day 1 in New Mexico...
