They grow 'em big on Minnesota Ave.

Friendship Collegiate Coach Aazaar Abdul-Rahim emailed to say Maryland offensive coordinator James Franklin recently stopped by the D.C. charter school. Before he left, junior lineman Larry Mazyck had a scholarship offer, and he told Abdul-Rahim that sophomore lineman Eddie Goldman would have one when he is eligible to receive one at the start of his junior year.

Friendship hasn't received much recruiting attention from BCS conference schools, or even many mid-majors, but Abdul-Rahim thinks both Mazyck and Goldman might open some doors to those programs. Both players have the size that makes football coaches swoon; Mazyck is 6-feet-7, 320 pounds, while Goldman is 6-3, 290. Abdul-Rahim figures more coaches will be on their way to the school on Minnesota Ave. He said Miami has requested highlight tapes and transcripts for both players, and coaches from both Boston College and Connecticut have come by the school to speak with Abdul-Rahim.
