Sampson to sign with East Carolina
Bullis forward Robert Sampson, the son of legendary Virginia standout Ralph Sampson, is expected to sign a National Letter-of-Intent on Wednesday morning to play for East Carolina.
Sampson recently had drawn attention from Georgia Tech and Boston College before settling on the Pirates and new coach Jeff Lebo.
East Carolina assistant Ken Potosnak had recruited Sampson's older brother, Ralph, who ended up at Minnesota. After Lebo and Potosnak were ousted at Auburn after this past season -- and before Potosnak was hired at East Carolina -- Potosnak saw Robert Sampson playing in an open gym. Once hired at East Carolina, Potosnak started recruiting Sampson.
"We only had Robert one year, but you can see he's got a chance to be a big-time player," Bullis Coach Bruce Kelley said.
