Maryland recruit Delonte Morton has sprained ankle
DeMatha Coach Bill McGregor reports that standout running back Delonte Morton sustained a sprained ankle in the top-ranked Stags' 35-32 victory over Friendship Collegiate this past Saturday. X-rays were negative, McGregor said, though he expects Morton will miss at least Saturday's game against Gilman of Baltimore.
"He's a heck of a player and you hate not to have everybody with us," McGregor said of the 6-foot-1, 249-pound Maryland recruit. "But it is what it is. We have good backs and other guys will have to step up like they did the other day."
Morton had eight carries for a team-high 45 yards against Friendship Collegiate. Darien Harris had six carries for 36 yards. Josh McPhearson was held to two yards on seven carries and Jacob Siwicki had nine carries for 28 yards and two fourth-quarter touchdowns.
"We're going by committee," McGregor said. "The guy who really played well for us the other day was Siwicki. Whoever has the hot hand is who we're going with."
Kickoff against Gilman has been pushed back to 8 p.m. Saturday at Towson University.
