Redskins Insider: April 29, 2007 - May 5, 2007

DE Blog, Finally

Despite what the Redskins might say out loud, there are plenty of people in the building with big concerns about the D Line. The idea that an improved secondary will greatly lift the front four, well, I couldn't find a personnel guy or exec around the league to buy...

Did You Know ???

Hope to get a chance to get the DE post up tonight - it's long and will take time to get up there - but in the meantime, got an email from Zach Hilton's dad. Seems like a great guy. I have to admit I had no idea Zach was...

Derrick Blaylock Worth Watching

Got off the phone with Blaylock's agent and he feels like there is a real chance here. Barring something crazy happening this weekend, Blaylock's agent, Michael Huyghue thinks he'll start talking contract with the Skins next week. "We're very optimistic about getting something done after this weekend," he said. Injuries...

Rookie Camp - It's Not Just For Rookies

Hello there, hope all is well. Out here at rookie camp, where the thrills are constant, and wanted to update you guys on the roster. There are always a few vets and practice sqauders in the mix, guys working out to get a look-see and fill out the roster. RB...

Kevin Mitchell Charity Info

Sorry for the late post. Friends of Mitchell's say they have heard that sleep apnea and hypertension are two possible reasons for the enlarged heart and massive heart attack he suffered in his sleep Sunday night/Monday morning. The death of the 36-year old LB has deeply saddened many at Redskins...

Another Great Guest Blog

This one comes to us from Harry. He's a junior at UVA on exchange in Sydney, Australia, who is following the NFL from there and is a big Skins fan. (He got up at 6:45am here to watch the Colts/Ravens game, 9am for the Superbowl, and 4am for several March...

Kevin Mitchell Has Passed Away

Have received the news that former Redskins linebacker Kevin Mitchell has passed away today. Mitchell, who was a second round pick by San Fran in the mid 1990s and played for the Skins from 2000-2003, was just 36. Details are still coming in and I have not heard anything official....

The D Line

Coach Joe continues to say all is fine with the D Line, that the Redskins "really didn't get close to taking anybody" for the line in the second day of the draft and that an improved secondary will elevate the play of the line. I am not sure how this...

I Bet They Wanted Our Guy Patrick There

So the big Delaware TE with big hopes of going on the first day dropped to the seventh round and gets gobbled up one pick before the Skins were up. Had to think he would have been the pick. So they take another big TE - but one with considerably...

Carson's Baby Brother

So they take Jordan Palmer, QB, UTEP, continuing the day's trend of drafting people who have relatives who played pro sports. Sartz was a teammate of Carson's at USC. This kid will be a project to battle Casey Bramlet for the No. 3 QB spot. If Brunell gets thru minicamp...

I'm Calling the TE Here

Why not take Patrick here, the kid from Delaware? Seems like a good idea here. Don't have any inside info yet, but seems logical....

Who's Your Sixth Round Daddy?

So they stuck with LBs and took Blades, like I thought. He comes from a bigtime family - his dad Bennie, was a stud back in the day and his uncle Brian, was a quality player too. He was very productive at Pitt, but is not very big. Like Sartz,...

Damn, I Really Wanted To Cover A Dude Named Rufus

Oh well, the Vikings stepped in and took my guy. Well, Blades is still there for the moment and the Delaware TE. Maybe a D Lineman. Oh the excitement. I'll still say Blades if he is there....

The LBs Are Still There

I wouldn't be surprised if the SKins turned around and took an LB again. Alexander and Blades are still there - Blades is rated slightly higher - although they might also try to go D Line here and come back with one of the LBs thinking they might still be...

Well, At Least I Called The LB Part This Morning

So guess, that was the other guy they had rated ahead of Alexander still on the board. Dallas Sartz USC. OLB. 6-5. 235 His dad was a college safety and his grandfather was a Golden Gloves boxer and hydroplane racer ... so ya gotta love that right off the bat....

5th Round Update

Okay, hearing now they have Blades a little ahead of Alexander, so we'll see who is left on the boards. Also another LB there they like too, so with one team to go I think they will go LB 'cause there are multiple options there. I'll revisse my pick and...

The 5th Round Is Here (Finally). Who You Got?

I'm sticking with Rufus Alexander, the LB from Oklahoma. There are health concerns at this position and a lack of capable backups, witht he sixth LB on the roster right now a kid off the street. Whoever mentioned Blades in the other thread took my second choice here, and they...

RANDOM DRAFT THOUGHTS

- Who knows how Landry will pan out - and the Landry vs. Okoye debate may rage on for years - but give the Skins credit for at least sticking with their board and taking their highest rated D player. No one wanted to trade up with them very badly...
