Redskins Insider: January 27, 2008 - February 2, 2008

Green, Monk Elected

Mark Maske calls this update in from Phoenix: Former Washington Redskins teammates Darrell Green and Art Monk were elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame today. Green and Monk were elected as part of a six-member class that also includes Andre Tippett, Gary Zimmerman, Fred Dean, and Emmitt Thomas....

Get Well Wilbon

I didn't post anything about Mike Wilbon's recent heart attack on the blog because I wasn't sure what he wanted out there on the photosphere, but after reading his touching column today I wanted to let him know we are all thinking about him and praying for him. There is...

The Coordinators

Wanted to present some context to the Jim Zorn/Greg Blache hiring, as it is a typical case of negotiating, Redskins style. Checked in with some sources over the last week to get more details on how it all went down. As we reported last Wednesday, owner Daniel Snyder and executive...

Ocho Cinco

Cincinnati Pro Bowl WR Chad Johnson wants to be traded. There's really no denying it. He's doing every TV and radio show possible at the media circus that is the Super Bowl, letting it be known that his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, is "The Shark" and working on finding ways to...

The HC Horserace

I'm calling this a four-man race at this point. Steve Mariucci is in. Made too much sense all along. I believe he was the covert candidate dating back to the weekend and it seems this thing has picked up considerable steam since we blogged about it Sunday night. I am...

Darrell Green Is Blogging

Thought the RIN (Redskins Insider Nation) would want to know that all-time great Darrell Green is blogging on washingtonpost.com this week. In his most recent post, he talks about the Redskins' coaching search: I've enjoyed watching them pull together their new coaching staff. It reminds me of how Lee Marvin...

The Meeks and Mooch Report

Jason Reid sends this in: Just got off the phone with a league source who said Ron Meeks is among the finalists for the Redskins' coaching vacancy after his second interview yesterday in Indianapolis, but it appears that Steve Mariucci could soon become a bigger part of the process. Meeks,...

A New Era

Vinny Cerrato has been a part of the Redskins organization since Daniel Snyder took over - save for 2001, when Marty Schottenheimer fired him - and in that time become the subject of great conjecture. With a free-flowing and ever-changing coterie of coaches and scouts, and frequently changing titles, Cerrato's...

Assistant Coaches Update

League sources believe that the hiring of Larry Brooks as defensive line coach is imminent. That would complete the staff, except, obviously, for the position of head coach. Most of the assistants had one year left on their contracts and have signed extensions, sources said. Don Breaux and Jack Burns,...

Larry Brooks - Next D Line Coach??/Fun With Titles At Redskins Park

Certainly looks like Larry Brooks is a strong candidate to be defensive line coach. He interviewed today. Saw him at Redskins Park. Brooks was Greg Blache's defensive line coach in Chicago and they also worked together in Green Bay. (He's part of the Mariucci family, also, for what that's worth)....

Something To Chew On (Small Update At The Bottom Now. Nothing Huge)

The Redskins say it will be at a least a week until he tells us who the new head coach is and I know that's way too long for you all to spend dissecting the coaching career of Jim Fassel slone. How about we take a moment to examine someone...

Meeks Gets Second Interview

Here's an update from Jason Reid: We've confirmed a report that Indianapolis Colts assistant coach Ron Meeks will get a second interview for Washington's head coaching vacancy. According to a league source familiar with the search process, Meeks, the Colts' defensive coordinator, is tentatively scheduled to meet with owner Dan...

Gregg And Al (Reunited in St. Louis, And It Feels So Good?)

Would not be surprised to see both of these back with new teams before the Redskins sort their search out. Both are highly in demand. At least 4 teams contacted Williams shortly after he was released from his contract yesterday and he's expected to begin interviewing for jobs this week....
