Carlos Rogers likes Redskins' new 3-4 scheme

Assuming cornerback Carlos Rogers eventually signs his tender offer, he is expected to again start opposite top corner DeAngelo Hall. And Rogers likes the changes being made in the secondary as part of the Redskins' new 3-4 defense.

"It's going to be good," Rogers said Thursday in a phone interview. "It's going to be real aggressive. For the corners, just the way they're going to move us around and let us do some things, I like it."

During the first minicamp in April, Rogers appeared to play nickel corner in some alignments, "but that's just what you want the quarterback to think," he said. "I'll be working inside, sometimes in the slot a little, but I'll be outside, too, maybe blitzing.

"You just want to keep the quarterback guessing. You want to show a look but that's not always what you're doing. I think it's a good defense for me. They want us to go out and make plays. That's the way you want to play."

Carlos Rogers is a no talent, non catching, double moveable, cant cover, 15 yard cushion wannabe cornerback...

WHO CARES WHAT HE LIKES?!?!?

Hopefully Los's new attitude will translate to better production on the field.

repost from end of last thread:

I say NO to the spear/arrow!!! This might not mean much to the rest of you, but I'm not wearing anything the remotely resembles an FSU jersey.. Not-gon-a-doit.. Wouldn't be prudent!

Posted by: skinsfanintampa | May 7, 2010 11:31 AM

don't really like the spear either, but not because of FSU. just think it's a clunky piece of graphic design. actually fond of the helmet w/ warrior, would be willing to check out something different, though.

check out these links... not sure if Gameplan Creative are the folks contracted for a redesign, but it looks legit:

regardless, does anyone disagree that the all-time ugliest 'skins uniforms are these?

hey zeebs, I kind of like that helmet halfway down the page... but I would move the feathers a little further back, so it doesn't look so much like plumage.

Allen grew up with the ugly bright burgundy and gold pants with the indian head, so it will probably stay as the helmet, same jersey, just different pants...

Posted by: Zeebs1 | May 7, 2010 11:44 AM

I doubt that he will be influenced by what he grew up with and I doubt that he will be heavily involved in the design. My own guess is that he hires some experts on this to make recommendations and he and Snyder will choose among two or three finalists.

Well Allen was on The sports reporters and said he was holding a pari of gold pants in his hand.. or looking at some. Now that could have meant he has a pic on the wall, or that there are gold pants coming. This was the source for all the gold pant talk.

So he is involved in some sort of way...

"You just want to keep the quarterback guessing."

This is why some of use have been beating the drum for a years about a scheme change.
'confusion' and ever-changing fronts that attack protection schemes are what modern NFL defenses do.

Blache just had the same guys lining up in the same spots and never took specific advantage of various players' talents.

Let's see more creativity and playmaking on D, please.

Yes, of course he's involved. He's the GM. That's his job. But did he say whether he'd sewn the gold pants himself based on a childhood memory, or whether some uniform design team had prepared them and handed them to him?

"Florida State's gold helmets with garnet and white spears on both sides are the focal point of a uniform which was named the "best in college football" in a 1991 fan poll by Sporting News. The Seminoles have had virtually the same head gear for 30 years dating back to Bobby Bowden's arrival in 1976."

Schemes can create the possibility for turnovers, but ultimately it's up to the players to "produce" turnovers, and Carlos has shown that he can not.

Only turnovers Carlos Rogers can get come from the bakery.

He's a marginal corner, and that's pushing it.

Posted by: RedDMV | May 7, 2010 12:11 PM | Report abuse

beep;

so he is involved, but he would say to a design team, "go do your thing" and they would come back with a look like his fathers and call that coincidence?

he doesnt have to sew them himself... al he has to do is say "I like the gold pants from the 70's". No sewing needed to be 'involved' in the decision rather than outsourcing the idea...

part of the key to this look is the BLACK SHOES.

not too crazy about that "feathered" helmet - yet. i presume the no-fun-league has rules like "all helments must look exactly alike", right? just musing that wouldn't it be cool if the number of feathers could be based on a player's having earned them somehow. like those stickers in college.... hhhhmmmm....

(btw, moo, those plaid pjs a few threads back killed me!)

What's the alternative to Los When we play against a run first team like the giants? Do you really want Tryon or tooth pick ankles barnes out there? You better hope our linebackers can drop that running back before he gets to the second level. As with the JC17 arguement what is the option? mind you D Hall is already a tiny CB with the worst tackling ability in the league.

I guess everyone has forgotten how well he played last year when the team was rolling & he was coming off of knee surgery along with Rocky McIntosh.

Yeah, Carlos Rogers has brick hands & actually has cost the Skins points in the past & possibly games because he dropped a sure interception & TD, but he is a good cover corner.

All the Skins corners in the past have played soft & this is 100% the fault of Greg Blache & his stubborn ways and he is probably the reason we are having issues with Haynesworth. Instead of creating a defensive philosophy based on your talent... he just never adjusted & did it his way.

You need to bump & run against fast guys in order to slow them down & Blache never let the guys do this.

Good to see Carlos actually excited to play for the Redskins, unlike the Zorn/Blatche debacle. Blatche was a horrible defensive coach who never put our players in a position to make plays (i.e., blitzing, zone coverage, anything other than covering a WR 10 yards off the line). Looking forward to a real defense for the first time since Gregggg Williams (Super Bowl winning defensive coordinator) was here.

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on May 7, 2010 12:27 PM ET
According to FBI documents obtained by TMZ, the 16-year-old girl that allegedly had sex with Lawrence Taylor was instructed to tell Taylor she was 19 years old.

She reportedly revealed to the FBI that her pimp told her to lie about her age. Florio points out that, as a practical matter, it doesn't if Taylor thought she was 19 years old.

Sex with a minor is considered statutory rape no matter what age Taylor thought she was.

Carlos will be fine. Provided the other teams have a gentleman's agreement to not use double moves, the qb doesn't throw in his direction and when he does he beams the ball at 'Los and it gets stuck in his facemask.

Something other than that string of events concerns me.

"Schemes can create the possibility for turnovers, but ultimately it's up to the players to "produce" turnovers, and Carlos has shown that he can not."

Is it the scheme or the players?

That's the question.

from NFL.com:

Most sacks?: Vikings 48

Most INTS?: Packers 30

Fewest Rushing Yards?: Packers 83.3 per game

Fewest Points: Jets 236 (14.8 per game)

There is other data, mind you.

The rankings are dotted by 3-4 and 4-3 teams, suggesting that personnel AND scheme go hand in hand.

So 'Los might want to take chances, but if he doesn't get INTs or shut his guy down, the only chance he's taking is with his own career.
