McIntosh wants an extended stay

Redskins linebacker Rocky McIntosh was one of the most outspoken players to voice displeasure with the way labor unrest limited his options in free agency. Instead of playing the field and possibly entertaining a multi-year deal, McIntosh signed a one-year tender this week with the Redskins that will pay him $1.759 million.

Thursday, following practice, McIntosh said he's happy to return to the Redskins for another year, and gauging his long-term future, he pointed to a nearby tent packed with former Washington players attending an alumni event.

"It's cool, man. I had to be here, and I'm here, and I'm glad to be here," he said. "So hopefully one day, I'll be like one of those guys over here who played here for a long time and get to stay here. Definitely glad to be here."

McIntosh participated in the vast majority of the team's off-season workouts and said learning the new defensive system hasn't been difficult. "It looks hard on paper," he said, "but once we get out here on the field, it's pretty easy."

Redskins' linebackers all have new responsibilities under Jim Haslett's scheme, and it could result in McIntosh's name being announced more often over the stadium's PA system.

"We get a lot more pressure, both from me and London [Fletcher]," he said. "So we take turns. It's kind of even this year. Last year, outside backers had to make all the plays go to him. So it's a little bit easier this year, so we're even."

FIRST to say Rocky will play this year and be done here. Dude is too small to be an impact player in a 3-4.

Hey, if Lorenzo Alexander can slim down to play 3-4 linebacker, Rocky can bulk up to play 3-4 linebacker. I'd be curious to know if they asked him to put on a few pounds. He needs to go on the BMW diet - the one to get to 400 pounds, not the one to get down to 335...

Rick forgot to mention that Riley signed his contract, leaving Williams as our last unsigned draft pick.

Mcintosh is a good outside linebacker, not necessarily LT, but he's still got tank in the gas for a couple more solid seasons...He is not the zombific corpse to be thrown into the helicopter blades so many fans cry and moan for..I think there are some serious sexual repression issues being voiced subliminally around here..I suggest "Ginger Garden Asian Massage" out by the airport...

Guess it would never occur to McIntosh to play well enough that the team might actually feel the need to sign him to a longer deal. Just saying...

Big difference here between RM and AH. Rock has been here working hard even WITHOUT a contract. He's not boasting "I want to be known as the best all time at my position", He's saying "I want to be like one of those Redskin alums over there that everybody loves" He wants the team to want him around for the long haul, and he wants to be here. Good for him!

In case anyone hasn't noticed this team is being built not to get to the playoffs this year but for 2011. If you believe 2011 is a lockout year then you want to minimize contracts with guaranteed money. If a new CBO is signed you are now in position to negotiate new contracts for most of your players under the new rules. This makes sense if you believe that the playoffs are not really a possibility this season and if you believe, as it appears the Redskins do, that its going to take four to five years to get younger and build a core of players that can sustain runs at the Superbowl for a long time (in NFL terms anyways).

Another 3 or 4 years from this guy would not hurt while he is healthy. I say sign him

Maybe Rocky is a better 3-4 linebacker than he showed in the 4-3.
