3 pm Baby, Can't You Feel The Excitement??

Well, only about another 3 1/2 hours until the Skins get on the clock. Ye-ha!

The first two picks are pretty well set, according to reports. Maybe the Ravens move up and get Ryan, the BC QB, but other than that not much intrgrue early.

I think I'm supposed to just leave this thread going for the entire draft and post comments on it (if that's wrong, and Jon D or Cindy can sneak away from that killer TV set there to let me know if I'm supposed to post new threads, that would be cool. Lookin good guys).

Anyway, for now Skins have 9 picks, most since 2002.

Since 2000, when Dan Snyder was fully in control of the team, the Skins have made the fewst draft selections in the NFL, have spent the most money, have the most dead cap space and rank 23rd overall in wins .... Somethins gotta give I suppose.

So let me get this straight. The Redskins have been to the playoffs two out of the last three years. They did so this past year despite the absolutely devastating and tragic loss of their franchise player.

And yet we have Jason La Canfora, incapable of admitting that the team has been well run in recent years, going back to the year 2000 in an attempt to smear ownership.

Just grow up and report the beat like an adult.

Posted by: Todd | April 26, 2008 3:18 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: supuradam | April 26, 2008 3:23 PM | Report abuse

Mostly irrelevant facts. The fact that they have spent the most money matters how? Is the retort that it hasn't shown up in the win loss column? The Redskins are one of the biggest money making machines in the league, and consistently turn a profit. Dead cap? Again, how is dead cap since 2000 relevant to the current situation? The redskins have money, and use high bonuses as an alternative to high base salaries. It's obviously been managed well, because the oft-quoted cap hell never really existed. It's obviously taken into account as a percentage of the cap.

All you really have to go on is total wins since 2000. And again, how is that relevant to a team that has been to the playoffs for two of the last three years?

It's disingenuous, plain and simple.

Posted by: Al Davis | April 26, 2008 3:28 PM | Report abuse

why would the raiders draft mcfadden?!?!?! they have like 4 compotent backs on roster...Fargas was beast for the, and they have holes everywhere....

The Ravens not getting Ryan could be a positive thing for the Skins. The Ravens definitely could make a move into the lower regions of the first round, but talking to some execs, they think the Ravens would go more like pick 24-27 to mvoe back up to the first round if they do.

The Redskins expect to have a few offers on the table when their pick comes up, but from their talks this morning they aren't sure sufficient value will be there to make the trade, according to sources who have spoken to them.

If not, then it'll come down to whether Merling, Harvey and others are on the board. Still doubting Harvey or Mayo will be available at 21, and if they hold off on stretching for a WR, then it will be very interesting, again, to see if Cromartie slips. Could come down to Merling vs. Cromartie.

Posted by: Jason La Canfora | April 26, 2008 3:30 PM | Report abuse

They're idiots. I don't know why they thought it was a good idea to leave Dorsey on the board when they're at the bottom of the league in run defense.

Another delusional Redskins fan. Of course "cap hell" exists - we've been in it for a couple of years. Why do you think we couldn't sign Dockery? Why do you think we sit on the sidelines during free agency?

The problem is that you can't handle the truth. Go hang out on redskins.com - you'll feel better.

Posted by: JustMe | April 26, 2008 3:41 PM | Report abuse

I'm somewhat with Todd. Somewhat; after all, there's legitimate criticism of the bottom line for this organization. And that is - win, baby, just win (well, it's making money first but you get my point).

I'm not a big fan of reporters who think they're smarter than everyone else they cover. Not necessarily including JLC in that; but he's pretty close.

Reporters have journalism degrees (for the most part).

Yet most of them think that if only they ran things, everything would be great.

Stick to writing stories, not pretending to be the smartest people in the room.

Back to the draft.

With both Ryan and McFadden going in the top five, EVERYTHING gets re-fiddled ... WAY GREAT opportunities open up for the Skins at 21, i.e., we bump up the list one guy at both DE and WR.

That way we could have a preserved record for historians to pore over centuries from now when alien civilizations visit our planet and try to ascertain why President Jenna Bush nuked Canada and destroyed the planet in 2044.

Posted by: P Diddy | April 26, 2008 3:57 PM | Report abuse

Jacksonville likely made the move to get Harvey with the 8th pick. Again, could see the Ravens make another deal in a minute.

Big time run on D Linemen going here ... but lots of tackels still there. Maybe someone slips to 21. That would be a great scenario for the Skins brass.

Okay, with the Ravens now at 26, they wont be doing business with the Skins. They'll get Flacco or Henne to be their QB there. Got a bunch of third round picks in the deal, so I imagine they will look at corners and wide receivers there.

Well, let's see from 12-20 what happens.
KC, Denver, Houston, even Carolina all could take tackles. And the Eagles, though Devin Thomas fills a need, love to stockpile talent on their line and he might be too good to pass up. Chicago is looking hard at tackle, too.

I say no way Albert slips past KC at 17, so I take him off the board.

I'm giving the Bears Albert. And can't see Otah getting past 17.

So that would like bring us back to Merlgin vs. a corner, whether it be Rodgers-Cromartie or Jenkins

Posted by: Jason La Canfora | April 26, 2008 4:32 PM | Report abuse

Leave it to Brian Billick to be the ball buster. LOL

Posted by: JustMe | April 26, 2008 4:34 PM | Report abuse

I need a snack. Does Dominos still have that Oreo Pizza?

Posted by: Anonymous | April 26, 2008 4:36 PM | Report abuse

Bears take OT - Boo!

Posted by: Anonymous | April 26, 2008 4:37 PM | Report abuse

WHAT'S SJK MEAN?

Posted by: Anonymous | April 26, 2008 4:38 PM | Report abuse

Skins loved this kid, too. Buges had very strong reports on him. Some worried about injury issues but Skins would have pounced.

So Albert still there - again, can't see him past 17 - and so it Otah.

Posted by: Jason La Canfora | April 26, 2008 4:38 PM | Report abuse

At least it wasn't Albert and we can keep hope alive for another pick that he'll be there at 21.

Posted by: JustMe | April 26, 2008 4:38 PM | Report abuse

I think DET goes with Mendenhall, ARI Albert, KC Otah, PHI DRC, TB WR

Posted by: marlonjohn | April 26, 2008 4:38 PM | Report abuse

i hope we can trade since we aren't gonna get one of the top OL.

Posted by: | | April 26, 2008 4:38 PM | Report abuse

I'd prefer Jenkins to Rodgers-Cromartie ... but only b/c Jenkins is a two kidney kind of guy ... that said, ALBERT MOJO PEEPS!

Posted by: dcsween | April 26, 2008 4:41 PM | Report abuse

and the Lions select WR Devin Thomas

Posted by: Anonymous | April 26, 2008 4:42 PM | Report abuse

SJK is used as a substitute for vulgarity, as in "Snyder is full of SJK".

Posted by: jcook | April 26, 2008 4:42 PM | Report abuse

Okay, let's assume the tackles are all gone (looking that way).

Two high rated corner out there - Jenkins and Rodgers-Cromartie - and Merling, the DE from Clemson who the Skins are very interested in - also out there.

One personnel exec I'm contacting said he would take Jenkins well above Cromartie. Jenkins more ready, the finished product. Sez Cromartie not nearly as much of a willing tackler, thinks some people making too high projections on Cromartie.

Posted by: Jason La Canfora | April 26, 2008 4:42 PM | Report abuse

What are the chances that Det. takes a wide out?

Posted by: Greg(Manny's House) | April 26, 2008 4:43 PM | Report abuse

Chiefs were seriously considering taking Albert in the top 10, so I gotta figure they take him here.

Posted by: Jason La Canfora | April 26, 2008 4:44 PM | Report abuse

Lions trade out, Chiefs take Albert

Posted by: triston73 | April 26, 2008 4:44 PM | Report abuse

The dream dies......

He looks pissed about going to KC

Posted by: chris larrY | April 26, 2008 4:45 PM | Report abuse

At least KC has good barbecue.

Posted by: Anonymous | April 26, 2008 4:46 PM | Report abuse

I know I'm pissed about him going there. :-(

Posted by: JustMe | April 26, 2008 4:46 PM | Report abuse

I would take Otah next if I was ARI

Posted by: marlonjohn | April 26, 2008 4:46 PM | Report abuse

Chiefs are kicking butt

Posted by: mtnskinsfan | April 26, 2008 4:47 PM | Report abuse

wouldn't you be?
who's your franchise qb in KC?
although, blocking for LJ would be sweet

but, who wants to live in kansas. dorothy didn't want to live in kansas.

or he's upset like b quinn. kc wanted him earlier, draft him at 16, so they still get him but pay him 1/2 of what they would've earlier. i hate when my boss makes smart moves that mean less money for me too. :(

Posted by: supuradam | April 26, 2008 4:47 PM | Report abuse

tru dat! BBQ = LIFE!

I bet Cards go Oline here as well....

Posted by: chris larrY | April 26, 2008 4:47 PM | Report abuse

Trade out if possible. Pick up another 5th or whatever they can swing.

Nothing there that makes sense now.

Good draft so far; from what I can tell no one's pulled a brainfart.

Posted by: Steve | April 26, 2008 4:47 PM | Report abuse

I am just hoping we can get Merling at this point

Posted by: chris larrY | April 26, 2008 4:48 PM | Report abuse

CL as it stands now, the only team I think will take Merling maybe the Texans.

Posted by: marlonjohn | April 26, 2008 4:51 PM | Report abuse

I know we have CB issues...b ut I really don't want another DB in first round, maybe irrational but thats how I feel!

Posted by: chris larrY | April 26, 2008 4:52 PM | Report abuse

Someone wrote a comment pretending to be me, the one about Snyder a few minutes. Just to keep it real.
Everything else has been me, the real me, the me writing this.

Anyway, still waiting on the corners.

Bounced Jenkins vs. Merling for the Skins off a couple of people - both say would take Jenkins for the Skins, given their roster and needs, even with the lack of DEs.

Posted by: Jason La Canfora | April 26, 2008 4:53 PM | Report abuse

WTF?

Posted by: Anonymous | April 26, 2008 4:53 PM | Report abuse

I don't like the Arizona pick.

Posted by: RAZ | April 26, 2008 4:56 PM | Report abuse

bad pick...should have been otah

Posted by: chris larrY | April 26, 2008 4:56 PM | Report abuse

Devin Thomas is still on the board. Interesting.

Posted by: Todd | April 26, 2008 4:56 PM | Report abuse

Looking like a moot point, now.

It's looking bigtime like Merling.

Have a feeling Jenkins might be gone by 21 as well,

If not that could be the debate.

Posted by: Jason La Canfora | April 26, 2008 4:56 PM | Report abuse

Merling/Jenkins. Jenkins/Merling. Yawn.

Posted by: marlonjohn | April 26, 2008 4:59 PM | Report abuse

ravens stupidly trading up for a qb? none of the next few was gonna take one. badmouth them jlc

Posted by: Anonymous | April 26, 2008 5:01 PM | Report abuse

Only two teams ahead of us, with Otah, Jenkins, Merling, and Thomas on the board.

Posted by: Todd | April 26, 2008 5:01 PM | Report abuse

Cherilus to Detroit and Balt taking QB should help us. Looks like Otah, Merling, Thomas, jenkins, mendenhall (skins don't need), should be available to skins

Posted by: mtnskinsfan | April 26, 2008 5:02 PM | Report abuse

Baltimore moves up to take Jenkins? Flacco? Who?

Posted by: Anonymous | April 26, 2008 5:02 PM | Report abuse

Me want Otah or Merling.

Posted by: skinfanman | April 26, 2008 5:02 PM | Report abuse

Todd - you beat me to it

Posted by: mtnskinsfan | April 26, 2008 5:02 PM | Report abuse

Jenkins or Merling

Posted by: mtnskinsfan | April 26, 2008 5:03 PM | Report abuse

Eagles will probably take Otah. Who do Bucs want?

Posted by: skinfanman | April 26, 2008 5:03 PM | Report abuse

Phil can also take the WR from MI

Posted by: skinsfan8KaboveMSL | April 26, 2008 5:04 PM | Report abuse

Otah, Jenkins, Merling, and Thomas? Who will we get? Or trade down?

Posted by: jcook | April 26, 2008 5:05 PM | Report abuse

I think the Bucs go Mike Jenkins

Posted by: marlonjohn | April 26, 2008 5:05 PM | Report abuse

I think if he's on the board, Otah might be the guy. What say you, J-la?

Posted by: Greg | April 26, 2008 5:05 PM | Report abuse

Bucs may want Merling.

Posted by: jcook | April 26, 2008 5:06 PM | Report abuse

i'll be shocked if philly doesnt take otah. they love drafting lineman

Posted by: Anonymous | April 26, 2008 5:06 PM | Report abuse

This is shaping up pretty good for us, methinks!

Otah or Merling should be available at 21-- not too shabby! I say lets grab Jordy Nelson in the second and trade our 5th and next year's second to get one of Atlanta's higher 2nd rounders for a top-notch DT.

Posted by: TDawg | April 26, 2008 5:06 PM | Report abuse

dont see us trading down with the players who have fallen...

Posted by: chris larrY | April 26, 2008 5:06 PM | Report abuse

Ronde Barber is getting old, isn't he?

Posted by: jcook | April 26, 2008 5:06 PM | Report abuse

I'd be surprised if the Bucs took Merling-- they just got Gaines Adams last year. Brian Brohm or Mike Jenkins might be a possibility.

Posted by: TDawg | April 26, 2008 5:07 PM | Report abuse

Not saying I want it but picking a U of Miami safety at #21 would be pretty cool. Might be kind of tough for Phillips though.

Posted by: mtnskinsfan | April 26, 2008 5:07 PM | Report abuse

Otah, Otah, Otah, Otah.

Posted by: skinfanman | April 26, 2008 5:07 PM | Report abuse

Flacco before Henne was a reach. Flacco is not a first round guy ... but he's got the important NFL QB quality ... arrogance. Seems like a slap at Heisman Trophy winning QB, Troy Smith (i.e., drafing a guy who is 6 inches taller five rounds earlier).

Posted by: dcsween | April 26, 2008 5:07 PM | Report abuse

Eagles will take Thomas, Bucs will take Otah. Leaves skins with Merling/Jenkins. Just as predicted well before the draft.

Posted by: wemiss21 | April 26, 2008 5:08 PM | Report abuse

methinks iggles are taking d. thomas, WR MI. . .

Posted by: skinsfan8KaboveMSL | April 26, 2008 5:08 PM | Report abuse

Wow, Flacco?

Posted by: Steve | April 26, 2008 5:08 PM | Report abuse

Skins could still have room to trade down now that Flacco is off the board. It could start a mini run by teams looking to snag one of the remaining top tier QBs.

Thank you, predicty mcpredictor

Posted by: TDawg | April 26, 2008 5:09 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: mtnskinsfan | April 26, 2008 5:12 PM | Report abuse

I say trade down. Somebody has got to want Mendenhall, he's gonna be a steal!

Posted by: kreitmaster | April 26, 2008 5:12 PM | Report abuse

Maybe the Skins should give the Bucs something for not taking Merling.

Posted by: skinfanman | April 26, 2008 5:13 PM | Report abuse

not sure I want the wideout here. . .

thinking merlin would be a good think for us. . .

Posted by: skinsfan8KaboveMSL | April 26, 2008 5:13 PM | Report abuse

If someone doesnt try to trade out of this spot, Cowgirls are gonna get Mendenhall

Posted by: TDawg | April 26, 2008 5:13 PM | Report abuse

"... Someone wrote a comment pretending to be me, ..."

Posted by: Jason La Canfora | April 26, 2008 4:53 PM

Real Jasno, meet real Nate. Real Nate, meet real Jasno. [Not to suggest Nate faking Jasno, just feeling aggrieved at handle pimpage.]

As long as Kelly is not the first round guy for the Skins, I'm good with whoever right here ... including a trade down.

Posted by: dcsween | April 26, 2008 5:13 PM | Report abuse

trading down looks good as well. I read MIA likes Henne a bunch.

Posted by: marlonjohn | April 26, 2008 5:13 PM | Report abuse

someone might want to jump ahead of the cowboys for mendenhall - don't want to see the cowboys get him

Posted by: mtnskinsfan | April 26, 2008 5:13 PM | Report abuse

Sadly, the Cowboys are sitting pretty right now. They will be able to address 2 out of CB, WR, and RB in the first round with high quality prospects.

Posted by: Todd | April 26, 2008 5:14 PM | Report abuse

Good point TDawg, I don't want the Cowgirls stealing Mendenhall. Maybe Tennessee will jump up in front of us and steal him.

Posted by: kreitmaster | April 26, 2008 5:15 PM | Report abuse

If Bucs get Merling (or pass on Merling), we should swap with Seattle, who wants an RB-- the Cowboys, Titans, and Steelers don't need a DE, and if Merling slipped away we could grab a WR or DT at that point.

Posted by: TDawg | April 26, 2008 5:15 PM | Report abuse

OK, the other pick I would not want the Skins to make here is punter. I'm way pro-punter, but not here. ;)

Posted by: dcsween | April 26, 2008 5:15 PM | Report abuse

Jason has been gone a while....hopefully getting some good scoop on the trade that we're making ......

Posted by: Greg | April 26, 2008 5:16 PM | Report abuse

looks like philly made out - a 2nd, a 4th and next years #1 - I'd love the skins to get something like that.

Posted by: mtnskinsfan | April 26, 2008 5:17 PM | Report abuse

you're safe, DCsween - no way the danny does a punter here, now way . . .

mayve when e gets to be wierd al's age . . .

Posted by: skinsfan8KaboveMSL | April 26, 2008 5:17 PM | Report abuse

um, seattle signed tj duckett and julius jones. not that either is that great but i don't think they will be drafting a rb.

Posted by: Anonymous | April 26, 2008 5:17 PM | Report abuse

Carolina give up a 2nd and 4th plus next year's #1.

Posted by: skinfanman | April 26, 2008 5:18 PM | Report abuse

Jasno's not gone. He's made 2 other posts.

Posted by: JustMe | April 26, 2008 5:18 PM | Report abuse

can't see tampa passing on D. Thomas

Posted by: skinsfan8KaboveMSL | April 26, 2008 5:19 PM | Report abuse

We both know T.J. Duckett is no 3-down back and Julius Jones is barely decent. The Seahawks need someone to fill the void that Shaun Alexander had when he stopped being good. Take the Raiders-- they now have Darren McFadden, Justin Forgacs, Dominique Rhodes, and Michael Bush.

Atlanta traded 1068 points according to the value chart

Good trade for the skins. Considering there was no one particularly attractive at 21.
