A First Half of Futility
Impressions from the first half of the Redskins' first preseason game...well, if you're a first- or second-year guy, it's been mostly bad.
Let's review: Second-year corner Justin Tryon, who has looked great in practice, has been beaten four or five times in the game. Rookie Kevin Barnes was beaten twice, including on the touchdown pass at the end of the half. Second-year tight end Fred Davis has fumbled twice, losing one, and second-year tackle Devin Clark was called for a false start.
Marques Hagans (two drops) has also not looked too great. And linebacker Alfred Fincher got lost in coverage and gave up a big gain.
Meanwhile, the Redskins' starting offense had two drives and punted both times. The first was a six-play drive that ended with Hagans letting a catch go through his hands. The second was three-and-out.
The Redskins' defense, meanwhile, has given up three drives of 67 yards or more.
The positives? Well...Brian Orakpo had a nice hit on QB Troy Smith. And punter Hunter Smith has boomed his last few kicks. He has punted four times already in this game...average in the 1st quarter was 41.5 yards, and in the second was 53 yards. And Todd Collins was not too shabby either.
Let's see how things shake out in the second half as more of these young guys look to prove themselves.

Malcolm Kelly looks aight. I didn't realize how fluid he looks for a 6-4 receiver.

Hmmmm. Tryon has looked great in practice against the Skins offense, but has been torched tonight. Hmmmm.

Orakpo's looked pretty good. When not actually hitting the QB he's messing things up on the offensive...
Backup corners look terrible...

At least Jarmon looks like a gamer.
Too bad Troy Smith looks like the second coming of McNabb.

Vicc, I saw you were talking up Bruce Massey earlier this week. He's nice but his teammate Jordan Goodman's is the name people are going know.

Oh and this bullcrap about a QB being too short, see: Smith, Troy. This dude is baking cookies out there.

Also, liking hearing Mike Patrick and Joe Theisman again. I really liked that Sunday Night Football lineup that ESPN had a few years back. Dunno why they had to go and Kornheiser it.

They needed someone to tell a lame Latino-bashing joke and piss off one of their key demograhic groups. ESPN is real smart.

The only thing we haven't screwed up so far is Half Time... as far as I can tell.

16-0, but looks like the DL might end up going from weakness to strength this year. It would be nice to see at least one decent drive from the offense tonight.

Huff continues to butcher names ... apparently the Ravens QBs sometimes go by the names, Tory Smith and Joe Falco...

What I would pay to see Brock Lesnar vs Danny Snyder.
Shoot, I'd pay to see Lesnar take on the tag-team of Synder and Cerrato.

F this game, y'all.
The third game against the very good looking Pats is the one that matters.

Jarmon looked good, quick with pressure on Troy Smith one 2 plays. I think for the few plays he was in there he was very impressive.

We keep hearing how Tryon has so looked so good in training camp.
Perhaps that is because he is practicing against our Offense?
Sonny is still sharp, but Sam has lost it, and is silly.
If Frank Herzog had to go, while is Sam still around?
Baffling!

Nah, I really did like those guys (plus the third guy whose name I forget). It's been a few years, so maybe it's a nostalgia, but they were fun.
That should have been an INT, damnit.

They were okay, Sunday night on ESPN. But I find them intolerable tonight for some reason.
Oh and this for t_e:
"The team, though, is a surprise landing point for Vick. It was among 26 clubs that said there was no interest in Vick, but that may have changed when backup Kevin Kolb strained a knee ligament earlier this week. Kolb’s injury isn’t serious and he’s expected to return next week. The Eagles also have veteran A.J. Feeley"
But they only signed VICK because he was the best choice of the remaining QB's out there, right? And they're only going to play him at QB, right?
Since I've listed your obvious comebacks, go another route for the reason they chose Vick in particular, okay?
Disinformation. Maybe the Redskins were being straight up, but the cut & paste proves my point.
