A pitchers' duel after 1 quarter
Both the Chiefs and Redskins entered the game without their starting left tackles, but it was Kansas City that felt that absence most acutely in the opening quarter.
The Redskins registered three sacks in the opening quarter, all coming over the Chiefs' left side, with Brian Orakpo, Chris Wilson and Andre Carter all getting to quarterback Matt Cassel.
Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard, however. Kansas City twice drove deep into Redskins territory, the first time the beneficiaries of a Clinton Portis fumble and again after a nine-play drive moved them to Washington's 33-yard line.
On the first drive, however, they were held short by Washington's defense and forced to punt, and despite being in field goal position on the second drive Kansas City opted to go for it on fourth and 2 and Carter broke through for a sack on Cassel.
Offensively, the Redskins again failed to move the chains. Portis' fumble ended the first drive when the ball popped out of his hands on a third and 1 run at midfield, and the Redskins went three and out on their next drive.
Washington started to move the ball on its final drive of the quarter, which featured a 25-yard throw and catch from quarterback Jason Campbell to tight end Chris Cooley, and the quarter ended on Portis' four-yard run on first and 10 at Kansas City's 47-yard line.
Orakpo's sack gave the rookie at least half a sack in four straight games, making him the first Redskin to do that since Marco Coleman in 2000 and the first Redskins rookie ever to do it.

First.
That 'taunting' Sellers just did to their punt returner was the most unbelievable trash I've seen in a while.
These guys have ZERO perspective. You'd think with a tiny crowd and active booing maybe they'd dial down the D-bag behavior but I guess it's just in their blood at this point.

I don't buy that the Skins have players with little talent. You can look at the offense and see that it is about coaching.
Coaching that brings out the same game plan every game. Coaching that uses the same players every game.
The offensive players actually look worse this year, Zorn's 2nd year in this system.
Fire Jim Zorn NOW, at halftime!!

I think thats the worst half of offense I have ever seen. They are getting worse by the game, its almost amazing to see how fast a team can regress. Would someone please lock Zorn, JC, and Portis in the locker room during halftime?

Then your opinion seems to run counter to D. Hall , Rogers, Riggins, and B. Mitchell to name a few. Guys that play and played the game at this level. Politically others can't say what they are.
Posted by: 1965skinsfan | October 18, 2009 2:14 PM
Yes, my opinion is counter to those you mentioned above. IMO, Zorn's coaching is what is making this team look like it has now talent.
The place where I see players with no talent is at QB. JC is too dumb to play QB.

First half sums up the season. Campbell misses a wide open Santana Moss for a touchdown and Zorn who was clearly playing for the field goal at the end of the half makes a poor decision to not kick it.

Zorn...take your noncoaching a$$ back to wherever the hell you came from. You are not qualified to be a headcoach. What does that say about the ownership....pitiful

Everyone on this team is so stupid. Which one has a better chance of happening? Us getting a hail mary TD or getting a 53 yard FG? Let your kicker have a chance!!!! I bet every single person on the blog would've choosen to kick the FG. So why is Jim Zorn so frickin' stupid????!!!

But it won't do any good unless the new coach can block and play QB the same time.

Just bring in Collins. Jason Campbell is just flat-out dumb. He throws when he should scramble and scramble when he needs to throw. That was the worst 2 min drill in the history of 2 minutes. No concept of basic clock management. We had at least 3 plays left if he just threw the damn ball out of bounds on that dumb-ass scramble.

I'm ready for Zorn to go.
Promote Sherman Lewis.
And I don't care who the QB is anymore. As long as Zorn isn't the one designing the gameplan.

You have to udnerstand, in Jim Zorn's world, we're "still in this game" at 3-0, so he won't change anything.
Now, you might wonder - as I do - what kind of idiot head coach wouldn't be asking himself why his team isn't leading 14-0 right now, but that ain't Zorn. And never will be.
They can fire him tonight as far as I'm concered. If he wants to play Zen master and implement his "stay medium" philosophy, let him do it somewhere else, and at someone else's expense.

Apparently 100 yards per half is all we can expect against the worst teams in the league. We might finish a game with negative total yards when we start playing good teams.

I have never been a big JC fan but never put him at the top of the list of their many problems...but watching this game I have finally decided that he is in fact one of out BIGGEST problems.
Gotta sit him in the second half - he simply is not good enough to give this team a chance to win against one of the worst teams in the league so who can he play against?
While they are at it, Portis can take a seat too...try Mason or Alridge and see if some frsh legs cant get the job done

Sure it's not Campbells fault. He just needs some more time to "develop" with his players and "get it right".
On a good day, this guy is too one dimensional to succeed in the NFL. You'd think of all people, JZ a former QB could see that.

Jason Campbell is so terrible it hurts to watch. Misses Satana wide open, throws into coverage, and tries to scramble with 15 seconds left instead of throwing ball away. What a complete joke of a QB he is. What excuse are you people going to make up for him this week? He is the worst QB we have ever had.
