Moe...The Packers don't have an elite #1 WR?

Are you being serious?

I'd say Greg Jennings is easily a top 10 NFL WR- has been for a few years and should be for several more.

I'm pretty sure we'll land Sydney Rice or Vincent Jackson.

Posted by: monk811 | February 4, 2011 11:08 AM

Agreed that we will, and that it will turn out badly. WR is already a diva position as it is. Go for top talent like VJax or Rice and end up with what you paid for, see Lloyd.Brandon or T.O. and every other attitude signing where the buyer did not beware.

The guys they should target are James Jones or Malcolm Floyd ... but the guys they WILL target are Vincent Jackson or Sidney Rice. If they're going to do that, they might as well make a play for Ochocinco. The guy they REALLY should target (if they want proven talent and don't care much about history), and only plan to rely on for a two year deal, is Plaxico Burress.

@WaitingGuilty, in addition to Greg Jennings, Packers also have Driver, Lee, Jones, and Nelson ... and that's just receivers and doesn't even include tight ends. Green Bay and Saints demonstrate that if you want to be a passing team you need receivers to throw to ... which is why Skins need to return to the power rush (and invest in a RB) until they can build up a WR corps and get a new franchise QB trained up. Grossman would be fully adequate as a QB on a team that is a power rushing team ... Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Hall extended Delhomme's career by at least a year or two longer than it really should have lasted.

Moss hasn't had consistent QB play in Washington, and you saw how Marshall's numbers dropped without a legit starting QB. Bottom line, WR is a very dependent position and you can't just view TD totals in a vacuum like that.

Comparing Bradon Lloyd to Rice or Jackson is unfair. Rice and Jackson are legitimate, proven #1 receivers. Brandon Lloyd was a scrub that still had stuff to prove, which naturally he did years later in Denver, that's the frickin story of our franchise now.

I'd rather have Rice cause he's younger and has less problems off the field than Jackson does.

Burress, aka The Human Target, is an interesting option, but one we should pass on. I know he hasn't played in a couple years, but he is still well into his 30's and has his own set of problems off the field. We're losing one 'practice problem' in Portis, and you want to pick up another one? Dude has injuries left and right and hardly ever practices, you think with him being 2 years older he can still go all week without practicing and play lights out on Sundays? Highly doubt it!

I would really like to have James Jones but don't think we have the room on the roster for 2 FA WR's.

All of this is moot anyway, I forgot our savior is coming back: Malcom Kelly! Championship!!!!

Jennings dominated the league this year after GB lost Finley and all their RBs. If Jennings were on a team where he was the unquestioned feature go to guy he'd be a perennial 100 catch WR.

I know Vinny isn't here, but don't underestimate the fact that we don't have very many draft picks and Shanny wants to win now. I don't like Jackson as much and see where you are coming from, but Shanny was in love with him when he was drafted. As far as Rice goes, we all know WR is probably the 2nd toughest postition to play as a rookie, and some players develop slower than others and I think he still has some improvement in him. I wouldn't give the farm for him, so he is a long shot.

Shanny does have his preferences, like big WR's, veteran QB's, and late round RB's, but there are exceptions to the rule. He did get Ed McCafferey from the Giants I believe, and he drafted Cutler, and he got Clinton Portis in the 1st round. Never say never dude!

Sween, how do you have so many preconceived notions about Sidney Rice? Nobody even heard of the guy until last season and he barely played in 2010 because of injury. It's awful presumptuous to think he's a "diva WR" when I haven't even heard a soundbite of the guy, let alone a complaint...

VJ is a pretty polarizing figure up here so that's not even worth bringing up...but I have a buddy that's a Packers fan and I've seen quite a few of their games this year...James Jones looks like Tarzan and too often plays like Jane. If he's a depth guy, then great...but if you think he's gonna come here and unseat Moss as the #1 you're sadly mistaken. Dude drops a lot of balls and I don't think he's the kind of guy that will make up for a QB's inaccurate throw (which we know is an issue here).

Floyd would be intriguing, but I don't think SD will let both VJ and Floyd go...and considering the way A.J. Smith runs that ship over there, I'd be stunned if they keep VJ over Floyd. So it looks like you're running out of options, dude.

If it were up to me, I'd get VJ (provided he's not franchised) and Jacoby Jones. That should help until we can draft a stud.

Accepted, but I think there sort of a feedback loop in that, with lots of targets, secondaries have to be honest, which allows for guys like Jennings (whose talent I don't diminish ... he IS the top Packer, maybe the top guy in the NFC North) get and stay open. "Elite" seems like an adjective attached to guys who so far outnumber the rest of the receivers on attempts and receptions -- guys like Andre Johnson or Roddy White -- and STILL racked up the yards, that the rest of the roster group's purpose is just to avoid TRIPLE teams.

RE: Stompy - it's nice to see him excited about SOMETHING

Posted by: DikShuttle | February 4, 2011 11:47 AM | Report abuse

Why doesn't Snyder sue Haynesworth instead of the City Paper? (1) Haynesworth has done more to besmirch Snyder's public image. (2) Between Haynesworth and Snyder, only about 50% of the public would side with Haynesworth (compared to 98% with City Paper). (3) And Haynesworth has a lot more $ to recover than the City Paper does.

Posted by: brownwood26 | February 4, 2011 11:19 AM

Moss has played a role in contributing to his QBs being inconsistent by dropping his share of important passes or deflecting some into INTs. The QBs are dependent on WRs also.

Posted by: Alan4 | February 4, 2011 11:55 AM | Report abuse

McCaffrey was drafted by the Ginas, but was picked up after a stint with the '94 SF team that won the SB (Shanahan was the OC in SF that year). And Portis was a 2nd round pick, not a 1st.

At the end of the day, we're probably not as bad at WR as we think...get a guy who is at least comparable to Moss (skills-wise) and move AA to the #3 spot and we're actually in pretty good shape...

Posted by: brownwood26 | February 4, 2011 11:56 AM | Report abuse

packers 19 steelers 12

probably a lil more scoring, but that's the prediction

Im going to highlight 2 positions on the field that are going to make the difference in the super bowl and which is why i think we should use our 1st 2 draft picks on these positions

the steelers center pouncey is out, so there will be a back up, the packers have raji, a DT and that's the difference in the football game right there

Center and D-Tackle, and that's why we need serious upgrade at those 2 positions b/c in the biggest game of the nfl season, the difference in the outcome of the game will be b/c of the C and DT positions on the field, i think raji is going to have a field day creating all sorts of trouble for the steelers and that's why i think the pack will win

of course the steelers d is niiiice, which may of course swing the tide for the steelers

C and DT are very important and we need to upgrade immediately, of course the QB position is serious too and if my prediction is wrong it's b/c the QB made the difference, but that's the match up right there

F both teams though

HAIL

1. Albert started it by tailgating the guy.
2. Guy gave him the finger.
3. Albert got out of his truck, walked up to guy's car and assaulted him.
4. Guy called cops because he'd been the victim of assault.

This is on Albert. He shouldn't have been tailgating. He shouldn't have gotten out of his truck. He shouldn't have punched the guy.

Nope. If you are tailgating someone (allegedly) and they flip you off, under no circumstance is it OK for you to get out of your car at the next stop and confront that person.

That is the definition of road rage, and whatever escalates after that is on you.

I grant you, we do not know all the facts yet, but there is no scenario where Al should have gotten out of his car...especially with his history.

Packer receivers:

Donald Driver
Greg Jennings
Donald Lee
James Jones
Jordy Nelson

To me, these guys are equal in size, speed, and versitility.

Without looking, I'd say they are all 6'1, 195 lbs.

My point is that from the way the packers align and use their receivers, no one guy is the 'man' in the way, say A Johnson or Mega-Thron Johnson is.

I think that design and use of receivers makes sense as inter-changeble players make it hard for a defense to fixate on one guy.

And out of all those guys, Driver is the one I'd fear.

Not Jennings.

I know we're not as bad at WR as we think, but Moss is already 30 and the only other one that can play on our roster is Armstrong. It would be nice to get a Julio Jones or someone high in the draft but we need those picks to go defensively, that's why I think we need to make a splash and get one of these young stud FA WRs that can make an impact and will be here when Moss hits the wall or he stops using HGH, whichever comes first.

That's good info brown, I always assumed Portis was a 1st round pick, still pretty high of a pick at RB as far as Shanny is concerned. Thanks for the correction.

Why do people care about getting out of the contract and getting some of the money we paid him back? 1) It's Dan's money and 2) it was mostly paid in an uncapped year, so it didn't hurt the cap situation.

To be honest, I think it would be better if his contract is not voided, because having most of his salary paid will make it much easier to get a better pick when we trade him. If the next team has to draw up a new contract after signing him, rather than having most of the money already paid by Snyder, it could hurt us.

Trade or cut the man and move on! Is he really worth the headache? That's a legitimate question... If yes, then the 'Skins need to shut the hell up and play the man. If not, then cut your losses and move on! This really isn't that complicated.

HEY HEY HEY GET OUTTA MY WAY

Im sure Albert was just in a hurry to get to the gym, preparing early for next season. Shame on this guy for getting in the way of Albert's progression back into a Pro Bowl tackle and model athlete. (sarcasm)

Wait, Albert was in the DC area during the offseason??? But he couldn't make it here to Redskins Park for OTAs, workouts and minicamp??? What a loser. He is constantly screwing over this team and the fans.

I guess Danny Boy Snyder wasn't the only one jealous of all the media coverage on football, none of it on the Skinz.

I'm telling y'all...this is the deal we may hear. Haynesworth goes to the Vikings for Sidney Rice. They need a DT to replace Pat Williams and they just signed a superstar WR from the CFL. The Vikes just need to slap a tender on Rice and trade us for Haynesworth. Of course, we may need to sweeten the deal with a low pick from this or next year's draft since his character and attitude are so questionable., but they would have a low cost DT with max potential, AH would be back in a 4-3 D, and we would have a great WR to go along with Moss PLUS no more Haynesworth!!
Just keep Haynesworth away from those Minnesota party boats!! LOL

Way to go fat Albert ! It seems that the guy that you punched, Velásques, wants to sue you . Your lawyer says that he is looking for his 15 minutes of fame !

Right , be real- nobody outside of Washington and Tennessee even knows who Haynesworth is . Fame has nothing to do with it , maybe infamy as I don't know a Washington fan who likes him. I'd gladly take Haynesworth's money.

The only athlete who stole more money and cheated Washington fans more than fat Albert is Gilbert Arenas. I never understood how he was capable of hornswoggling management into such a lucrstive deal and producing so little.

He never was a franchise player and now in Orlando he is riding the pine. At least that is where he belongs.

When do we send the fatboy packing ?
