Haynesworth scheduled to return to Redskins Thursday

Defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth, who left the team last week after the death of his younger brother, is expected to rejoin the Redskins Thursday, two people familiar with the situation said Wednesday.

Haynesworth did not play in the Week 5 victory against Green Bay after traveling to Nashville, Tenn., early Friday morning to tend to family matters following the death of his brother, Lance McCoy, 23, in a motorcycle accident. Haynesworth then traveled to his hometown of Hartsville, S.C., to bury his brother Tuesday.

The Redskins expect Haynesworth to arrive in Ashburn Wednesday night, the team sources said. However, it is unclear whether Haynesworth will participate in practice Thursday. One of the sources said Haynesworth's status is unknown for the Sunday night game against the Indianapolis Colts at FedEx Field.

Haynesworth had his best performance of the season in the Week 4 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. He was a disruptive force early in the 17-12 win at Lincoln Financial Field.

Teammates are eager to welcome back Haynesworth -- but only when he feels the time is right.

"You just send out your thoughts and prayers to him and try to support him," said cornerback DeAngelo Hall, who is among Haynesworth's closest friends on the team. "When you have a tragedy like this, you just want him to take the time he needs for his family. That's the most important thing right now."

Quarterback Donovan McNabb agreed.

"I talked to him via text, and it's a tough situation," McNabb said. "Anyone who's lost a family member, that's kind of hard to just walk away from and think everything's going to be okay. We're all behind him 100 percent, and I'm sure he'll be back when the time comes."

Anyone know where we rank on D in terms of points allowed? In my opinion thats the only stat that matters, and i think we are doing a much better job than last year even though we are giving up more yardage.

Yards allowed, last.
I'm with you, points is the only stat that matters. HAIL!

Sorry to change the subject but it's great that our team has the confidence to win the close games now but if McNabb would hit his WIDE OPEN receivers and stop throwing the ball at their feet these games wouldn't be close to begin with! Congrats "Dirty 30"!

A lot of lesser issues are forgotten when people care for you in your grief. Good for the coach and team for doing the right thing and supporting Haynesworth in his time of loss. I suspect he'll remember that support long after he's forgotten the smaller controversies between him and the team. May the peace that passes understanding abide with him and his family.

Not entirely. If the defense is consistently allowing the other team to have 15 play drives, even if they aren't giving up a lot of points, it's hard for the offense to score any points themselves. They'll just be losing a lot of low-scoring games.

"Haynesworth scheduled to return to Redskins Thursday"

We hope brings humility, desire, and, above all, anger with him whenhe returns.

If this dude returns ready to be a force at the NT spot, a lot of the sorry stats about the D we've whine about will improve.

McNabb doesn't throw the grounders as much as people thinkI just wish he would hit a few more long ones. On the TD pass Artmstrong caught, it was really an underthrown ball that Armstrong adjusted to. Armstrong had the safety beat by a good four steps, but the safety caught up when Armstrong adjusted to the ball. He's missed a few out of bounds, too. Don't get me wrong. I am very happy with the quarterback play but if McNabb can get a few more of those long passes, he'll get those safeties to back off and the running game will open up.

Other than the $21 million, been kind of a tough year for Haynesworth

Posted by: coparker5 | October 13, 2010 12:54 PM | Report abuse

Points against is def. a more important stat than yards against, however one troubling stat so far this year is that on the year we have been outscored, one of the very few winning teams in that category. Granted 4/5 games have ended on the last snap, but over time teams will usually level out in games decided by 6 points or less.

We've had our share of bad luck the past couple season in those types of games, but 3-2 is solid at this point in the season.

Hail!

As we give up the yards and the # of plays, sooner or later, we will be giving up the points too. We have no business playing the 3-4 as we don't have the correct personnel - LBs and DEs. We don't have a consistent pass rush; certainty without the blitz. This bend but don't break philosophy has been going on long enough. Don't bend and you won't break. Just take a look at the Steelers, Ravens, Jets.

Agreed, but it would help if the offense could sustain some long, clock eating drives like back the day. The D could stay fresh and maybe get some 3 and outs every now and then.

At the expense of sounding callous, didn't Brett Favre play a couple days after his father died (which incidentally his wife was at the game I think in support of him LOL)?

Posted by: gregmorris78 | October 13, 2010 2:37 PM | Report abuse

Haynesworth isn't rushing back and the Redskins aren't pushing hard for him to come back.

That should tell you something.

I think the Redskins realize Haynesworth is now a one year rental and will be gone in 2011.

No one is willing to give up anything of real value so the two sides are stuck with each other.

And the hope is that Albert when motivated on a given Sunday as in Philly will decide to put on a good 30 minute clinic in how to play DE/DT in the NFL.

Besides, the Redskins depth on the DL is questionable at best.

If Wshington had guys that were pushing to start Haynesworth would have already been dealt for that #4 pick from Tennessee.

But there is no one else.

At this point in his career, CP needs to be a FB/H-back. It would be fun watching him block for another running back that doesn't fall down to avoid a fumble. He can still get the occasional carry or even a spot start. Obviously not for the money he's making now though.

While anybody can feel empathy for the untimely loss of a relative, I don't think it was justified for Fat Albert to not play Sunday. The game started at 1:00PM and was over before 5:00. He could have came and earned his exorbitant $800,000 daily salary and then chartered a jet to Nashville and been there by 8:00. Just another example of that prima donna only caring about himself and to hell with the team. I say get rid of the bum.

In regards to McNabb throwing at his receivers feet. Being the average height of our receivers is under 6 feet, there isn't much difference between throwing to their feet or chest. The problem isn't Mcnabb, the problem is a bunch of midgets as receivers, in a big boy league. Get a few real receivers and you'll see a big difference in the number of completions.
