Haynesworth's teammates not feeling charitable

What may turn out to be the Redskins' shortest practice of the summer also may turn out to be the team's most talked about. Several Redskins had opinions on Albert Haynesworth's absence from the first of two mandatory minicamp sessions.

Defensive end Phillip Daniels told reporters he and his teammates feel betrayed.

"We supported him all summer, all off-season," he said. "It's now come to the point where he's got to earn our respect again because he turned his back on us. That's how it is. I'm speaking for every guy in the locker room right now."

Fellow lineman Andre Carter wasn't as critical of Haynesworth but did say some fences would have to be mended if Haynesworth decides to report to camp later in the summer.

"If he does stay here, maybe as a team we'll have a little pow-wow and say 'What's on your mind?' and try to come to an agreement," Carter said. "Either way, we all have to be on the same page to be destined for something great. You can't have no individuals -- we have to come together as one."

Center Casey Rabach, who wasn't surprised by Haynesworth's absence, said it's going to be tough moving forward.

"The guy's actually starting to hurt the team," he said. "That D-line is definitely a close group of guys and to see a guy like Albert just kind of messing with that, it's sad to see...I think it's hard for that D-line not to turn their back on Albert, 'cause that's pretty much what he did to them. The best thing to do is just to get it over with and do something about it - cut him loose, get rid of him, what can they do? I don't know. It's hard to say."

Quarterback Donovan McNabb has been in regular contact with Haynesworth and was more optimistic about the situation, saying it's nothing compared to the circus Terrell Owens brought to Philadelphia in 2005.

"Things will work itself out and hopefully we'll get a chance to see him come to training camp," he said. "I think we're better off with him. You want all the pieces of the puzzle here. Obviously, he's a big part of what we want to do on defense."

Posted by: BeantownGreg1 |

Greg, I know its tough to see any light after last night's Celtic beatdown, but get a clue. You don't really know what is up with Albert. Nor do I.

The Skins have sunk $32 million into this guy, and he's the best talent on the team. You try to reach him, even if he's being an 8 year old.

As for AH knowing who Darrell Green is, yeah, I think he knows. fwiw, Brett Fuller is another guy I might consider for this job.

I think McNabb's perspective is useful. He's been in the ultimate NFL circus before. McNabb may prove his every bit as a valuable if he can help wrangle Albert into the fold as he will be as a QB.

Team First.

As to all the bagging on Halls comments. I don't get it. To disagree is one thing, but to claim Hall came here for the $$ is BS as we first got him for almost nothing when he left Oakland. His salary is not insane right now, and he was given the same, cash up front deal as Albert but unlike the fat load he has been working hard. BTW thank god for those deals as when the cap comes back in a year, we will have taken much of the money they both got and moved it off the cap.

I get what he is doing, trying to save a bridge from burning between Albert and the team.

Quite the resume, Cerrato.

His last big moves...Jason Taylor, DeAngello Hall and (big finale) ALbert Haynesworth...

Funny that McNabb has been in regular contact with him. Didn't know they even knew each other, or is this the new QB on the job trying to play peacemaker? Whatever the case, the other guys seem pretty upset with him.

BTW, if you are going to send someone to talk to Haynesworth, I suggest Andre Gurode equipped with a piece of lead pipe.

At the home opener D batteries should be handed out and Fatty Haynesworth should be in an isolated spot being pelted nonstop. See how enraged we can make him. What a classless money stealing piece of sh*t.

If D.Hall is trying to position himself on the team as some kind of leader, he needs to be singing a different tune.

You don't say that you "100%" understand where a guy is coming from when he became the highest paid player in history at his position, took a $21mill check from the organization 2 months ago, only to turn around and the turn around and flip off the team.

That's not how you inspire confidence with the rest of your teammates.

Someone should ask Hall this question:

If Haynesworth says it's all about being able to play someplace where he trusts the organization and likes the scheme, did he say why he doesn't just pay back the $21 mill bonus and buy his freedom??

Saying that teammates are talking crap now, but won't say anyting to AH's face if he shows up?

By saying he "100%" understands the position of a guy who took $21mill from the team only to demand a trade 2 months later when nothing changed in that time span?

Yeah, he's saving that bridge to AH...and he just strapped C4 onto the bridge between himself and everyone else.

Keep taking what Hall said out of context.

They both got good contracts from the team, both re-negotiated to these big payday up front and cheep down the road deals so that if unhappy they could opt out once the new scheme came into place.

They are both filthy rich, as is most the team, and the difference between a $100 mill and Halls $70 mill contract is the difference between having money for the great grand kids vs the great great grand kids. So when Hall says he knows where Albert's coming from I think he does, or he does better than the rest of us working for 40K a year.

Like they tried to "reach" TO? I remember that totally panning out. He's such a good teammate, that TO, I hope the redskins sign him, bring back Marko Mitchell and start Colt Brennan. I heard there is a QB's coach in Baltimore dying to prove his worth as a head coach too.

There is a silver lining in this.

Fat Albert was the icon of the horrible Cerrato Era.

Now Fat Albert is the test of the Allen era. If Allen handles this appropriately and doesn't give in to Fat Albert, then the team will be truly under new management.

Everything that was wrong with the Redskins under Cerrato is all over Haynesworth. Time to set the example for the team, and most importantly, to the rest of the NFL. The joke is over.

Look Greg, we all know you're an a$$-hole, wrapped inside moron who hopes one day that Antonio Pierce will have his way with you.

You really have no clue what is on Albert's mind or how he might be motivated. None. Your ignorance is massive. You've never met the guy, let alone had a conversation with him, let alone spent a few years getting to know him. But you claim to know what he's thinking? Time to let some blood flow back to your brain.

Its possible you are right, but its one possibility -- out of many. Skins mgmt would be fools to assume that you are right.

Sean Taylor was a complete jerk when he came here. The coaches found a way to get through to him. I'm not saying things will work out with Albert, I'm very skeptical on that front.

Assuming you know what's going on just make you the fool. And an even a bigger a$$. Again.

Snyder structured Haynesworth's contract so that the team could get rid of him after the 1st year of the contract if they wanted to. The guys currently running the team chose to give Haynesworth the bonus on April 1st. They could have severed ties with Haynesworth at the start of free agency and used that $21 million to get some legit LB's, WR's, or offensive linemen. Shanny is getting a free pass with this whole thing. I think he blew a great chance to get rid of a cancer and improve the team. Instead, the cancer remains, the $21 million is spent, and the team has no LB's, WR's or legit o-linemen.

Posted by: coparker5 | June 16, 2010 5:52 PM | Report abuse

Is seems obvious to me that Fat Albert purposely screwed the Skins. Shanny gave him the choice. Told him that if he didn't want to be here, don't take the 21 mil and you can go. Fat A-hole decided that he should be able to take the 21 mil and still go. To top it all off, he claims that he doesn't trust the Skins. Get a clue jerk-wad! Does he think anyone will EVER trust him again?

I'm with you, coparker5 (at 5:53pm). The Danny set up this disaster by signing the stupid contract with Fat Albert, but Shanahan jumped in it with both feet on April 1st, so it is his mess now. Although, this link:

http://insidethecap.blogspot.com/2010/03/redskins-finally-leverage-uncapped-year.html

says (if I read it right) that the $21 mil is a signing bonus, not an option bonus, so the Redskins could get some or all of it back if he refuses to show up for training camp. (Not showing up for minicamp apparently doesn't matter.)

Posted by: scottmando | June 16, 2010 9:12 PM | Report abuse

Sorry, I misunderstood the $21 million. I thought that Albert got the $21 million only if he was still on the roster of April 1, 2010. If the Skins would have cut him, say March 31st, they wouldn't have had to pay him his roster bonus. Then what was the big deal about April 1st if the money was guaranteed all along? I still think the Skins could have gotten rid of Haynesworth before April 1st and spend that $21 million to solidify other positions on the roster that are desperately lacking.
