Albright Added to Pro Bowl

Ethan Albright, the Redskins' long snapper, has been added to the NFC Pro Bowl squad, joining teammates Chris Cooley and Chris Samuels.
Like them, he'll wear a No. 21 jersey in the Feb. 10 game in Hawaii. All three jerseys will be sold on nflauction.nfl.com, with proceeds going to the Sean Taylor Memorial Trust Fund for the benefit of his daughter, Jackie.

good for Ethan - he deserves the recognition. No one notices the long snapper until they make a mistake, but he certainly is one of the best in the league

just out of interest, what does a long snapper do when they hang up their... gloves...? ...or whatever it is that they hang up.

Unregardless, what does a typical post-NFL career look like for such a specialized position player? Do they breed and/or coach other long snappers? Maybe move onto filling FedEx trucks or something?

Just interested to know....

They might be able to pick up Jordy Nelson in the 3rd round. I'd say fourth but the Skins don't have a fourth. GBN doesn't have him in their top 100. But if you watch his highlight film the guy is a player. And he's great at throwing the option pass on the fake end around.

Posted by: skinfanman | January 24, 2008 03:42 PM

If Sweed is there, he'd be tough to pass up, I guess I'd have to know more about his background. Lets see what he runs at the combine, or his pro-day. I do know he is coming off ligament surgery on his wrist...

Posted by: gregmarino88 | January 24, 2008 03:42 PM

It's Senior Bowl Week, and Jordy Nelson's stock is going Up, Up, Up! while Limas Sweed's stock is going Down Down Down! Nelson is catching everything in sight and making defensive backs look bad, while Sweed has reinjured his wrist and is done for the week.

Why are you guys talking wide receivers in the 1st round anyway? It's not going to happen. For the Redskins to get better faster, they need a monster defensive end to match with Carter, and then rebuild the offensive line. It won't matter who is at WR if the line can't give the QB time to throw. As for DE, you only have to look at the Giants to see what a difference a real pair of defensive ends can make.

Maybe Beavis and Butthead can hold on long enough to get Spagnuolo as Head Coach. Then the Redskins will draft the kind of DE they need.

Posted by: tafka | January 24, 2008 4:01 PM | Report abuse

And while everybody is on the subject of Fassel, I can see it now. Skins finish the first half of the 08' season at 3-5 and Fassel says....

"I am raising the stakes right now, ... If this is a poker game, I am shoving my chips right in the middle of the table. I am raising the ante. Anybody who wants out, can get out. This team is going to the playoffs. OK? This team is going to the playoffs"

Redcoat, in response to your previous lure, there is nothing darker than THAT wolf in sheep's clothing ... by which I mean a cowboy wrapped in dolphin skin.

On the mock drafts (which I mock) I know I know I know about Banks (and everybody else) sending Limas Sweed to Washington. EVERYONE is sending Limas Sweed to Washington. The early mock drafts did, so everyone is jumping on board. See also, Alan Branch last year. I have two problems with Limas Sweed ... (1) the Matt Millen Syndrome (MMS) ... it has to do with receivers in the first round ... just not safe (see Detroit ... on the first four tries) ... Vinny Cerrato has MMS bad ... Taylor Jacobs? Gardner, Rod? and (2) Limas Sweed did not have a great year this year because of the fabled sprained wrist. All the pumping is based on his prior performance, esp. his JUNIOR year. If performance in your junior year is the basis to pick a tall WR, then I go for Lance Leggett of "The U" ... same guy, same height, same speed, same hands, same junior year, only no senior career to speak of.

Also, if Calais Campbell is there, I'd skip right to there (assuming the Skins don't get Antwan Odom). How does a 6'8" DE slip to the #21 spot? I don't care if there are shorter guys who looked more impressive ... that is what coaches are there for. I bet he moves up. With the benefit of hindsight (or if you review posts by this guy, dcsween, from this time last year, foresight), Adam Carriker was the best DE in last year's draft, but the third one picked. Buccs (Gaines Adams) and Falcons (Jamaal Anderson) picked the wrong guy. There is nothing you cannot accomplish with a monster DE.

Posted by: info | January 24, 2008 4:08 PM | Report abuse

sween--

I recall history differently than you. Don't blame Vinny for those picks. Rod Gardner was a Marty Pick. Taylor Jacobs was a second round pick, not a first. And Spurrier was coach at the time, so not clear whether he was a Vinnie or a Little Stevie Wonder pick. Otherwise, yes, Lima Beans seems questionable.

WOW, a Pro Bowl Long Snapper! Well, we'd better cut him. Better yet, maybe we can package him with all of our draft picks for Cleo Lemmon! I'll bet Parcells might even throw in the 'Fins fattest cheerleader, just to sweeten the deal for Danny and Vinny.

Posted by: tkoho | January 24, 2008 4:14 PM | Report abuse

I'm not for taking a WR #1. Just said if Nelson is there later...

Doubt if Calais Campbell is there at #21. Many mocks have him going in the top ten. But one thing we know, by April the mocks will all look completely different.

I say draft linemen 1,2,3. O and D. Then go after Briggs in free agency.

Posted by: skinfanman | January 24, 2008 4:14 PM | Report abuse

I'd have not problem going with Campbell in the first, and it sounds like Sweed will drop, so if we go Campbell in the first, and Sweed in the 2nd, I'm a happy camper.

WTF???? anyone who is ok with his hiring is either a drug addict or somewhat mentally impaired. it was their DEFENSE that got them there, people. John Fox directed that stout defense, and his success in Carolina points to him being the main factor. production DECLINED statistically under Fassel. jesus people, learn the facts. as for gregg williams defense in buffalo...he took their defense from 29th in 2001 to 5th by 2003. yea, his record sucked, but again, it was buffalo, and the offense sucked.

I say instead of the quarterback challenge, they have the long-snapping challenge at the pro bowl. You can have all different kinds of long snaps; to the punter, to the place holder, direct snap to the RB, fake field goal snap to the place kicker for a pooch punt, the possibilities are endless. And frankly, I'd be fascinated watching these grueling athletes compete.

Cafardo writes football, but he is not the beat writer. Closer to Maske's job. Sorry Hawkeye, but I don't think Wayne Huizenga's rich enough for The Owner to take his call...

That's a shame sween, Monday night I'm tending to the young 'un as I'll be away in beautful downtown Annapolis the rest of the week.

We'll make it sometime. I can show you my new 'Tunaskin'* Dolphins shirt, it smells really odd - a bit like a burn pair of chaps - but looks good.

Anyone know if Ray Handley is available? Anyone? Hello? This is seriously getting embarrassing. All they had to do was promote Grilliams and keep on rolling, focusing on the draft and FA. Now it's an absolute circus, and the Skins, a playoff team, are the only one's in the league without a head coach. Might as well hire Brian Billick to run your offense now. I heard he's still available. Better hurry up before Home Depot swipes him up as their lead lumber associate.

Speaking of naugahide ... it just occurred to me ... is that where gyro meat comes from? naugas? no wonder they get slaughtered so quickly (and so deliciously) ...

Did you guys hear on pfc.com that Snyder contacted Rich Kotite...Rich Freakin Kotite...what were those losers thinking?!?!?! I swear if Kotite is the coach I am gonna be a Cowboys fan and list all my old tshirts and skins ski tooks on Craigs List!!! I mean how stupid can you be.....

Oh the humanity!!!!!!!!

Since there has not been any posts today on the coaching situation. Have as any one on the right coast heard anything at all that would at least give us a hint at what the Dan is doing.

The Owner: "That would be 'Associate Head Coach: Dead Wood', Brian. I believe $3.5M per season should do? Where's Vinny? Vinny? I don't care if you haven't wiped yet! Come here right now and sign this man up immediately!"

It's good to be the King.

Wowsers. Can't we just wait to see who they pick before we freak out? And even then it's going to take some actual games being played to figure out how things are going. Experience or newbie, doesn't matter to me as long as he puts up W's on Sundays.

Well, as SMACK has baled out (some poor excuse about "being in the air at that time" or somesuch) it's really just wherever works best for your good self and Mark (from Tomorrow).

Speaking of whom, why don't we just get Mark (from the Future) what the decision was? Or is ther some sort of elaborate rule about not revealing the future to us poor people in the past so as not to interfere, like such as, maps?

On the subject of "it's good to be the King", does anyone else think that The Owner probably loves to act out the "hump or death" speech with his underlings?

Start worrying now - after this clusterfutz, there won't be many victories on Sundays for a very long time. How does 3-13 sound to you for 2008? Get used to it - the organizational damage heaped upon the team by Beavis and Butthead will resound here for years. It will be WORSE than the bad old days of Spurrier and Norv. No decent coach will want to work here. No decent player (UFA) will want to come here. The days of starry-eyed optimism are done. Get used to it.

Love the post, "Redskins talk to Jerry Glanville". Made me laugh which can't be bad these days.
The lack of Jason posts on the HCing situation seems weird. Looks like DS/VC may hold out until after the SuperBowl to try to get the lastest inexperienced but HOT OC. They cannot land a top HC as the cupborads are bare and because they are the Redskins.

This isn't just about who the future Head Coach coach will be anymore. It's about the ownership of the Redskins deliberately trying to smear an honorable man by spreading false information about him.

Joe's naivete becomes evident as quickly as his cash disappears upon his arrival in New York. He is hilariously, yet sadly, unsuccessful in his attempts to be hired as a "stud" for wealthy women. The naive Joe meets the crippled Enrico "Ratso" Rizzo (Dustin Hoffman), a third-rate con man who easily tricks Joe out of twenty dollars by offering to introduce him to a well-known pimp, who instead turns out to be a religious fanatic. Joe flees the scene in pursuit of Ratso, but he is long gone. As Joe's money quickly runs out, he finally attempts to make money by sleeping with another man, but even this plan goes awry. (The novel does refer to previous homosexual activity by Joe, but explains that he'd pursued it more in hopes to please a male friend than out of desire.)
