An editing handoff on this here blog

After almost four years of hanging out up here with you, I'm turning over the keys to the Redskins and the NFL to a new editor. Lenny Bernstein is running the Redskins Insider, the new @RedskinsInsider Twitter feed and The League now, as I transition into a new blog later this summer (until then, I'll reside at the @CindyBoren Twitter feed). You'll learn more about the new gig soon but suffice it to say that there will be jibba and jabba and tons of Redskins and NFL news, commentary and analysis there. There will also be microbrew talk. (Do I know how to hook this crowd or what?)

Editing the Redskins and NFL has been an honor and a way of life. The guys who've covered the beat while the blog and The League have existed are exceptional journalists and even better humans: Jason Reid, Rick Maese, Barry Svrluga, Paul Tenorio, Dan Steinberg, Mark Maske, Jason "He'll always be Jasno to me" La Canfora, and Howard Bryant (whose new book "The Last Hero" is terrific; it wouldn't kill you to buy it).

You've been great companions and, while I know that hamsters don't like to wander too far from their cages, there'll be fresh shavings on the floor of my new place for you guys. Hope to see you there.

Cindy (aka The Dauphine, Cyn Cyty and other assorted nicknames you guys have given me)

Hmm, what about things a player puts in other people's bodies? That's the $10 million question.

MajorFacemask, jimwest20, let me be clear about this: you guys can kiss my ass for criticizing our beloved editrix. We'll never again have it as good up here as we've had it with Cindy running the show, you ungrateful chooches. Fie upon thee!

If there's no failed drug test, and no admission from Tana or the Doc that any HGH actually went into his body, then this is a moot point.

I think there are alot of folks that are confusing what Goodell can do under the PED policy versus what Goodell can do under the Personal Conduct policy.

This is, so far, a strictly PED issue; and Goodell is limited by the stipulations of the NFL PED policy.

If Goodell starts invoking the Personal Conduct policy to unilaterally threaten suspensions or punishments onto players the he suspects have used PEDs, you can bet there will be a fight from the NFLPA and from players like Tana individually.

Yeah, Nate! You tell 'em! It's funny how you all have identities, you're all people I've come to know. Some of you've gotten married, some have had kids since the blog was created. Still others have been paroled. And, of course, the blog ruined Jack's kids.

seriously, I agree with iH8dallas that Kemoeatu is more than a "scrap-heap" player... *if* he can successfully rehab the Achilles injury and get rid of some poundage. seems like one of those low risk scenarios with the potential for a decent payoff.

Posted by: moodlymoodlymoo | May 27, 2010 1:24 PM

exactly... tried to make the same point at the end of the last thread, but beep-beep doesn't seem to be helping lately.

You keep saying this and you're wrong. First, if the doc is found guilty of bringing HGH into the US and injecting it into Moss, that's enough for Goodell to punish under the PED policy. Second, even if the Dr. G escapes punishment, there is nothing that prohibits Goodell from calling Moss in and agrilling him about his relationship with Dr. G (why did you contact him, how did you hear about him, what were told he could do for you, tell me exactly what he did to you, when, how, who present, what was your expected outcome, what did he inject in you, you don't know, didn't you ask, why not, weren't you concerned, you weren't, why not) and Moss can't plead the Fifth. Moss can't get a pass because he willfully chose to be blind to what Dr. G was doing.

lol @ beans.

Damn, y'all got one of them rescinded. True, both should've been, but you know Stern will try to protect the his refs.

Reminds of the type of person to say 'yeah, I was wrong but I was only half wrong because if you didn't do "x-y-z"..'

Typical bama crap move from a person who never takes FULL responsibility for anything!

F Stern. And in a few years I'll probably be like F the NBA! The crap officiating is starting to wear on this basketball fan.

I just hope the Wizards can win one before that happens.

Darn it, it's going to be a lot harder to achieve the "Sleep with a Blog Editor From the Washington Post" from my bucket list now. I guess Steinberg is probably the cutest of the rest who are left....

Officiating did not impact that game. The Magic controlled that game from the tip. This series has turned because Jameer Nelson decided to show up and play. And with last night's contribution from Lewis, the rout was on.

Posted by: learnedhand1 | May 27, 2010 2:09 PM | Report abuse

I have said again and again and again that if the doctor makes statements indicating that he specifically injected Moss with HGH or some direct evidence of that emerges, then that changes the scenario because then you have direct evidence that a banned substance went into Moss's body.

But how do you presume the Feds are going to successfully convict the Doc of specifically injecting HGH into Moss if neither the Doc nor Moss talk about it? Are they going to go solely with the testimony of the assistant, who herself is under arrest for smuggling drugs and will say/do anything to save her own keister?

The Feds have charged Galea with a number of crimes, and they do not need to prove specifically that Galea injected Moss with HGH to nail him on a bunch of the charges.

I've been saying all along that alot will depend on how the investigation shakes out.

There is nothing to prevent Goodell from bringing Moss into his office and grilling him. There is also nothing preventing Moss from answering - "I don't know all the ingredients that were in that syringe...sorry. Oh, and refresh my memory...have I actually failed a test?" And what do you suppose Goodell has the power to do if the conversation goes down like that?

It's the crap officiating AND the guaranteed contracts, Red.

I have no hope for the officiating, but I could probably stomach an NBA season if these immensely talented guys had to play every season like their job is on the line (i.e. they could get cut at the end of the year)...that would be entertaining and competitive regardless of the bogus calls.

But having to stomach the crap officiating AND the overpaid loafers who get big guaranteed contracts and then half-arse through the rest of their careers and ruin the game for everyone else - can't deal...
