An Unrestricted Look at Injuries

JReid takes a look at the how injuries will affect the Redskins on Sunday. It's another cold, gray, rainy day here, so we'll see if the team plays it safe with some of the injured guys again in practice.

And how do you think the game will affect the NFC East?

If you can't see that widget, go here to vote on this question.

The Redskins are 23rd in red-zone scoring, and only eight teams are worse than they are on third-down offense (36.4 percent).

This was BEFORE we let Leigh Torrence go. Now, without him, we will probably slip further. That guy was Mister Everything.

Anyone besides me geeked for the Bond movie? I'm seeing it tomorrow. I mean, he's no Leigh Torrence or Jason Boren, but he'll do.

I am geeked Cindy, but worried because of the review I saw this morning in the Express. I will try and see it Saturday but I have a jam packed scheduel what with getting my new TV and going to the post office.

I was, but Joe Morgenstern gave it a bad review in the Wall Street Journal. I find my tastes line up with his, but I'm still going and will take the kids. He wrote:

"This is low-rent Bond -- it's short and sour, with semicoherent action that plays like third-rate Jason Bourne... Another Bond as drab as this could sink the franchise if the keepers of the Fleming flame don't watch out."

He was, however, raving about "Slumdog." Now I want to see that one.

Reviews are not favourable (hi, Redcoat!), but who cares? Daniel Craig is a terrific actor, although Leigh Torrence has greater range.

Well 44, the last 4 games have shown we arent where we thought we were prior to those games.

Hopefully rest and refocusing of the coaches will go a long way.

JReid,

Is an a$$hat,

Romo coming back will help them with there vertical passing game where was that vertical passing game the last time the Skins played them when Romo was 100%.

The Cowgirls are desperate for a win, so are allot of teams does that mean they will automatically win, it takes talent as well.

The cowgirls secondary sucks Moss even with the hamstring will burn the sh!t out of them.

Even if CP and Betts don't play we can still run on this defense they are good at rushing the passer that is it.

Dude....huh?? I love anyone with "Riggo's Rangers" in their name, but I couldn't get my feeble mind around this one. I have many concerns - can we protect Campbell, will Springs tweak a glute, hammy, another calf, etc, and most of all, will CP and/or Ladell play...but where their heads are...not a concern of mine. This is our hated rival. This is a quasi-playoff game in November. I don't think focus/intensity are a problem. Can you explain?

Wow.....just wow. JLC and JReid are on WaPo right now saying we have (had) 2 guys who could cover TO in the slot....Shawn Springs (who is hurt) and wait for it...Leigh Torrence (who was cut...the travesty). They also elaborated on the fact that Danny Smith's special teams are doomed without Torrence.

Why was Torrence not getting all this LOVE from them while he was here?

Looks like our season is ovah.....

LMG,

I hear you. No question we feel it. The idea that the team wouldn't is pretty illogical. I guess I am more worried about our confidence after the Pitt loss and the fact that we are going into the game with a lot of question marks health wise. I am worried that the team doesn't think we are the same team we were in earlier weeks.

This Legih Torrance thing...it was funny for a while but to me it's getting downright annoying. I get it. JLC blew his release substnatially out of proportion. Maybe still continues to. But come on. Although I think the "Torrance for Sec Def" mock articles are great.

Does anybody think CP will play? ANyone? I still have to believe there's a chance. But in the likely event that he sits, it is HUGE that Ladell play and be effective.

Just like 2006 and 2007, Leigh Torrence will make the playoffs. I hope he can handle the stadium noise in Seattle this year.

Thanks for clarifying, I think that's a great point. Can't say the thought hasn't crossed my mind too...

That said...you hear players always talk about "opportunity"...well what a great one for Jason Campbell. With Barber having been neutralized the past few meetings and CP unlikely to go, this could well (on offense) come down to which QB manages the game better and makes a couple big plays (defenses will of course have something to say about the outcome too). What a great chance to upstage Mr. Wonderful, Everbody's All-American, Mr. Jessica Simpson in front of a primetime national audience....oh and by the way basically end their season too. The thought of it all has my heart palpitating.

I'm slowly realizing how great Leigh Torrence was and what a disastrous, franchise-destroying mistake Vinny made in letting him go. But, where I get confused is why, after we cut him, only New Orleans and Minnesota claimed him off waivers. Are these the only two teams that want to win? Was his salary so high that other teams were scared off?

This Dallas games scares me because Dallas has more to prove at this point and more at stake if they lose. But I think Redskins fans have many reasons to be optimistic about the Skins in this game and the last half of the season. As much as Portis means to this team, Betts was also great when he last started. I also think the offensive line would relish the opportunity to show people they can open holes and run successfully without Portis since he called them out earlier in the year.

I think it is really unfair of JLC to keep bringing up the lack of production from our rookie wide receivers. Wide receivers generally take years to develop and even first round draft picks at the wide receiver position only work out about 50% of the time.

I think Zorn sees Malcolm Kelly helping in the Red Zone and Devin Thomas as a deep threat this year. I don't think they are on the roster to make Cerrato and Snyder look good. They could have put Kelly on IR weeks ago and saved face if they didn't think he has potential this year. You can't blame Cerrato and Snyder for their injuries. Our rookies just need more time to catch up and begin to contribute.

I'm really worried about this game....which will surprise none of you :(

(1) No CP....HUGE problem for us
(2) No Springs...HUGE problem for us
(3) Banged up Samuels and Santana...so not good.

And FINALLY, we have not won a prime time game all season. In fact, we have looked horrible in both our primetime games.

Posted by: Lisa_R | November 14, 2008 11:06 AM | Report abuse

While I don't think Torrence was a huge loss, I know from our reporting that New England, Chicago, Baltimore and Philly were interested in having him visit, had he become a FA. It didn't get to that point because New Orleans and Minny wanted him and he was awarded to the team with the poorer record.
One of you mentioned the Bill Walsh approach to the last 10 or so guys on the roster and I think that's valid. Torrence might be able to help the right team. Here, I think the need on special teams was greater. They had the change to try to upgrade, particularly on sp. teams, for little money and did so.

This is where you lose me. Since your reporting is always based on anonymous sources, probably Torrence's agent in this case, what does this mean? If any of these teams had truly been interested in him, why didn't they claim him off waivers? They weren't put off by his large salary since he's making the minimum. What is it they needed to learn in a visit that they didn't already know?

I think Betts/Alexander will actually get it done. People fail to realize we are playing the Cowboys D, not the Steelers D.
Oline and Big Mike will knock them off the ball...and their secondary has not shown an overabundance of desire to step up and tackle anyone.

And one last thought: Jason Taylor is going to finally play like Jason Taylor. Stand by Pinkie boy, you are gonna get F'ing mauled!!!

NewYorkBaller, any chance you're related to NewYorkJammer or NewYorkGunner?

I'm with Lisa ... I'm doomglooming on this game. The key to this game is that the Shaun Alexander who suits up needs to be the Shaun Alexander who played for Seattle a few years back. No ifs, but, or ands, the guy has carry the team ... at least half of it ... on offense. W/o a credible running threat, there can be no passing game, much less a passing game already Santana-compromised.

Plus, I think they need to pull Jansen b/c Jason started missing some reads after he got knocked down a few times. Of the seven sacks, I put four on Jansen. [Another on Rock, and another on Rock/Alexander both.]

If Alexander doesn't have his best game in several years, then the only hope is to start out the game like the Jets did last night ... special teams must dominate.

where is Kaneohe, BTW?

Actually, Leigh Torrence is in heavy duty negotiations with Chuck Norris to take over the "Walker - Texas Ranger" franchise.

Posted by: JohnDinHouston | November 14, 2008 11:34 AM

This dishonors Sean Taylor's domination of Chuck Norris in RI blog lore.

I'm pretty sure that Betts is going to play, don't ask me how I know this because it is top secret.

Lol LMG,

I hear ya. But I don't really think they should have that record.

And if Philly had put the ball in Donovan's hands, I believe we would have been looking at overtime.

We'll see how good the Gints really are in the next 4-5 weeks. I'm not predicting upset per se.. but it could definitely happen.

You have to respect the Giants, but you don't have to fear them. You just have to play some D. Manning will loose the game for them if you let him.

special teams must dominate.

Thank goodness Torrence is on our side then... Oh wait. DAMN!!!!

The quiz is silly. Zorn already said Portis is "game time" decision.

Zorn's 'questionable' = League's 'out'

Sween - You're right - It's just been announced that Torrence has pulled out of negotiations to star in "Walker - Texas Ranger", Leigh Torrence has announced that he is now negotiating with Dave Chappelle to relaunch "The Dave Chappelle Show - With Leigh Torrence"

Posted by: JohnDinHouston | November 14, 2008 11:45 AM | Report abuse

So what happens if Leigh Torrance suits up and tries to tackle Marcus Mason ??

Obviously, this would be the immovable force / object debate. Much the way Superman battled Batman in some crazy bizarro world of the comic book series.

dcsween, you're wit and eloquence notwithstanding - I'm going to the Johnny Mac card here - "you CANNOT be SERIOUS!!"

Betts seems ready to play. He might not be 100% but note that .90 x 46 = 41.40 > 37 x 1.00

In English, this is a complex formula that proves that Ladell Betts at 90% is still greater than Shaun Alexander at 100% in Nov 2008. No chance (ingen chans in Swedish) he is close to his 2005 form. Just forget that pipe dream my friend.

We can beat them with ladell.

HAIL

New Orleans blew it - don't they know why we really cut Torrence? As others have mentioned, he's an obvious choice for a key cabinet post, but only AFTER he leads the Obama transition team and assists with the proper dispensation of the bailout funds.

He simply won't be available to play football the rest of the season - much to the chagrin of all NFL sponsors ...

p.s. but good point on Chuck Norris and 21

Leigh Torrence's family crest is a picture of a barracuda eating Neil Armstrong!

Notorious,
Grade 2 is "medium" grade on the 3 level "how bad is the damage to the ligament" sprain scale. Sparina is the farina based warm goop used to treat same for the heat portion of heat/cold.

Kaneohe is on windward Oahu.

I hate the stupid videos and never watch them. What did this one say about the injuries?

Posted by: kmichael76 | November 14, 2008 11:18 AM |

It said we are going to lose because of the injuries, and the fact that the great Romo is coming back.

Also since the Cowgirls our desperate for a win, they will win because as you know when a team is desperate they always win.

Posted by: Flounder21 | November 14, 2008 11:24 AM | Report abuse
I agree, Kmich, I've stopped watching them. And your summary, Flounder, just reinforces the concept of not watching any "Unrestricted"s. Thanks for saving me the time. Now I just skip the video and get to the meat of the subject, which is all the jibba-jabba. HTTR!

Posted by: frediefritz | November 14, 2008 11:55 AM | Report abuse

Jibba Jabba rulez!

And I nominate Bill Brasky stories in place of Chuck Norris stories for Torrence.

Must respect the lust for mayhem!

Leigh Torrence once punched a hole in a cow just to see who was coming up the road.

I think we can beat them with Betts as well. My only concern is that he hasn't play in a month so it kind of makes me worried in regards to fumbles. Which is exactly why I don't think Romo will be that great either. I would blitz and hit the crap out of him early on. That should do the trick.

Posted by: kmichael76 | November 14, 2008 12:08 PM | Report abuse

I definitely think we CAN beat them. I think we SHOULD beat them.

I have doubts on if we WILL beat them.

We once had a bachelor party for Torrence. He ate the entire cake before we could tell him there was a stripper in it.

wow... people around here are pretty special. You have to agree with a lot of what jreid said. Teams in this league for the most part aren't that far apart and what determines the outcome of games is a lot of times luck and will power. This game right here is the season for the cowboys, if they fall to 5-5 they know they're going to probably have to win out to make playoffs. Pitt played two weeks ago with that sense of urgency, and we all saw what they did to us. I have yet to really see this skins team show me that they can take another good teams best shot.

And yes we dominated romo for most of the game last time, but now he has a really good receiver in roy williams, and the player that really helped to carry us that game, portis, is in all likelihood not going to play. We got hall but he has a been a huge disappointment this year, and there is no reason to believe that after a week here he can suddenly turn it on.

look i can understand cheering for the skins, and i'm going to be there on sunday doing just that, but ripping on jreid like this just seems like a bunch of people who are ignoring the obvious truth that we are in a bad spot.
