Another Landry Indication

So the Skins PR staff just came around with the first official roster for training camp. Of course, I immediately scanned down to the L and see that, indeed, LaRon Landry's name is on it. So I asked if that was a mistake, because for him to be listed there would mean he was under contract.

Word came back that it wasn't official and he shouldn't really be listed as of this very moment ... but, well, it probably won't be long until Landry could officially be listed there. Again, still guessing on this being locked down by late afternoon.

Any word on Rice?

sweet.

Thanks Jason. :)

Considering the #3 pick was signed everyone else should pretty much fall into place at this point.

Oh yeah....just say NO to Simeon Rice! Someone said "Bruce Smith" on a previous blog and I 100% agree.

Haven't any of you learned yet? :(

good to hear Landry is coming allow good.

I have to say no to Rice, just another big name agingfree agent and his production has been going down. He also is coming off of an injury that took him out for half the season last year. It doesn't seem like a smart move.

Since today is the first day a training camp, do we know what the schedule for the day is at the Park?

BULGER BREAKS THE BANK

Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that, contrary to some other reports on the matter, the new contract signed by Rams quarterback Marc Bulger is a six-year, $65 million deal with a whopping $29 million in guaranteed money.

Schefter reports that Bulger will earn $32 million in the first three years of the deal.

From previous post re Simeon Rice...

"Hes old and washed up."

Old and washed up like Phillip Daniels or old and washed up like Renaldo Wynn? He's an upgrade compared to either of them.

for the right contract (i.e., nothing guaranteed beyond this year unless he hits certain performance marks) and the understanding that he'll be a situational pass rusher unless he proves otherwise, I'd go for him.

we set the record for least amount of sacks last year, people!

Does anyone smell that? It's the smell of fear. I cannot wait for L2 to pick up the reputation as a mouth smacker after strikes mouths with vociferousness.

Nate, excellent outing on Wed. Thanks again.

FYI, and it's such a quick fyi by the way, we have an outstanding dude in our midst. Nate reps the PDX to the death. Just a grown man trying to make his way. 'Can I pay for AMTTS when he sucks down a burger and a beer?' Yes.

Rice is a Snyder guy but not a Gibbs guy. I would be stunned if has any affiliation with the skins.

Either Snyder's planning to get out of the radio business completely at the end of the Redskins' 2007 season or he's planning to buy some new, better signals for his sports talker. DCRTV has been reporting rumors that Snyder might be looking to purchase the signals of Bonneville's Washington Post Radio - 107.7 FM and 1500 AM. However, we from another very reliable DC area radio source: "Bonneville is not going to sell those stations. And I am very sure Red Zebra is getting out of radio, not looking to buy".....

Which two players will be involved in the training camps first scuffle? B. Lloyd and Smoot?

Posted by: CC | July 27, 2007 1:37 PM | Report abuse

To all those on the blog that complain about the Danny please take a long look at yourself in the mirror. At the onset of the free agent signing period you coked up hamsters were screaming to save money and picks; build through the draft, resign CORE players, no expensive has been free agents.

As soon as a washed up has been hits the market everyone professes he is the savior of the D. Gee I wonder why Danny reacts the way he does? Why do you hamsters respond in such a manner? If the skins were to sign this has been and he flopped all the hamsters would be nibbling on Grillians, Gibbs, Uncle Junior and Danny about the signing.

Leave Rice to soil other pastures I for one don't want to see him signed and I don't think the hamsters really do either.

That's all I have to say about that!

Mike (Reno): I saw that Simeon Rice was cut by the Bucs. Any chance that the Niners try and scoop him up. I'm pretty sure he'd help the pash rush and be an upgrade over Marques Douglas.

ESPN's Jeremy Green: (1:10 PM ET ) I think Rice ends up in Washington. They will ante up some money to get him and they need big time help at the DE spot. Rice does not fit the 3-4 defense.

Montoya nails the scuffle question.

Dante wins points for use of the word "pancaked", love it.

Forrest is right on with the hamster/Danny effect.

Bringing in someone else in this late, is a vote of no confidence and will screw up the team chemistry.

Wait to make additions to the roster after injuries to key players, or where glaring weakness become evident.

Posted by: Forrest | July 27, 2007 2:22 PM | Report abuse

My hedge on the scuffle situation is right with Montoya's. Jansen gets awfully protective of whomever's behind him, even if it's just training camp.

And is it me, or does anyone else think that the first person Laron lays down as Pergo in Redskins Park will also be the ultimate answer to who shot the J.R. in the LaLaGate Incident? (Please let it be Pretty Boy Lloyd - the guy needs some wake-up....)

Posted by: FlimFlam | July 27, 2007 2:24 PM | Report abuse

Yeah our FO didn't deal with the d-line issue but you know what on the whole this is the first off season that I haven't been pushing pins into a voodoo doll of the Danny in a long time.

The smart thing is to look at Rice but do NOT sign him yet. Let all the other teams do all the vetting, let Rice show his colors and attitude and what kind of $ he wants.

I don't want one ounce of energy and time wasted on this guy until we've signed everyone else.
If another team gets him so what? Listen Rice is NOT the difference maker for us. I don't care if he has 10 sacks this season with Detroit or whoever. And I will not be a hamster lamenting our failure to sign Rice during the season. I promise.

NEW YORK - A day after Barry Bonds called him a "little midget man who knows (shti) about baseball," broadcaster Bob Costas said he wasn't upset with the San Francisco Giants slugger and responded with a jab of his own.

"As anyone can plainly see, I'm 5-6 1/2 and a strapping 150, and unlike some people, I came by all of it naturally," Costas said Thursday in a telephone interview.

4th, NICE! Plus its a sweet photo of Sean Taylor. Anybody else notice how more than half of those guys are safeties? Maybe it has something to do with a running hit.

I had thoughts about Rice in the previous post. You don't need Captain Obvious to know that pass-rushing DE remains a need, even if for depth. What if Carter gets hurt? Evans is the theoretical pass-rushing rotation guy. Seems like we've seen that best that he has to offer (which is not shabby, but is not Pro Bowl either). If the Skins keep a low profile and swoop in near the end of negotiations, seems like Rice could be brought in for less than the remaining cap space and contribute this year. The shoulder injury/failed physical seems like pretense to me (i.e., the real reason is to unload his $7M). Portis had an injured shoulder. Marcus had a bad hip. If Rice were willing to be a situational guy, then his shoulder does not seem like it should be a worry.

First fight in camp? OT v. DT. The temps aren't high enough yet though.

[Also, hilarious training camp weather report from Fauxco mullin in the last thread.]

People keep posting "old", "washed up", "declining" with regards to Rice. Look at the numbers. I know as Redskins fans we have been burned before and I understand the fear, but this guy is exactly what our defence is missing. In 2005 when he was healthy he posted 14 sacks. Last year playing with one arm he STILL forced 4 fumbles in 8 games. How many turnovers did our entire D-line generate last year??

Posted by: SonicJones | July 27, 2007 2:58 PM | Report abuse

Sonic, I couldn't agree more. And to reiterate what I said on the previous post... why are people against signing a "situational pass-rusher" when Daniels and Wynn have proven to be nothing more than "Run-Stuffing" DE's.
