Another Post (Can't Hate On Me)

Two in a row, howday like that?

So I guess I jinxed the inactives, because everyone's favorite receiver is out with bronchitis. So there's new after all. With that news we can put a cap on Lloyd's miserable season. Consider:

Lloyd caught just 23 passes for 365 yards and no touchdowns this season, numbers that many receivers could surpass in any given month. He never caught more than four passes or surpassed 52 yards in any game. He failed to catch a pass three times - including last week - and was held to two receptions or less in 13 of the 15 games he appeared in. Lloyd amassed just six catches for 104 yards over his last five games.

Coach Joe has bemoaned the lack of a deep game this season, and the production of all of Washington's receivers is down. Former starter Mark Brunell relied on primarily short passes, and Campbell is a first-year starter still learning his craft. Still, Lloyd is only fifth on the team in receptions, role players like Todd Yoder and James Thrash managed to catch touchdown passes and receiver Santana Moss and tight end Chris Cooley have twice as many receiving yards as Lloyd.

Lloyd has embarassed himself tremendously as a member of this team. The question is does he have the self-respect to try and come back next season and redeem himself, or will he disappear into the ether?

Sad, because he came across as a very likeable and fun-loving guy on the redskins.com interviews over the summer.

Seriously, what kind of name is "Colt McCoy"? Sounds like he should be out riding around in his pickup truck.

Posted by: P Diddy | December 30, 2006 7:35 PM | Report abuse

I've met Lloyd (he rapped at a party I attended) and he was a very nice, cool guy.

Okay, now this is crazy:
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=398152&cc=5901

We should be thankful that 'Skins fans don't send severed animal heads to our GMs.

That is, if we had a GM.

Posted by: P Diddy | December 30, 2006 7:37 PM | Report abuse

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Whoa. Let's not forget B. Lloyd's promise to keep fighting for this team and fighting for this city. That must be worth, um, something...

Posted by: Gozar The Gozarian | December 30, 2006 7:38 PM | Report abuse

How dare we hate on Lloyd, he's a ... a ... core Redskin, "up here" and everything.

Posted by: Megskin | December 30, 2006 7:40 PM | Report abuse

Gotta admit, I was wrong. CNN's coverage of President Ford's funeral is quite respectful. No talking heads, no crazy news crawls, just a logo of the Presidential Seal and a CNN logo.

Posted by: P Diddy | December 30, 2006 7:41 PM | Report abuse

Gozar, are you related to Thundarr?

Posted by: P Diddy | December 30, 2006 7:42 PM | Report abuse

We should be thankful that 'Skins fans don't send severed animal heads to our GMs.

At the rate we're falling, someone is going to send Vinny's head to $nyder. Now, I'm not advocating violencing or anything, just remarking that things are getting pretty bad "up here"; some unstable people might take things into their own hands.

Posted by: Megskin | December 30, 2006 7:45 PM | Report abuse

Violence or violencing - have your pick. I think I'll stick to watching the game and stay away from blogging.

Posted by: Megskin | December 30, 2006 7:47 PM | Report abuse

Last game of the season. We're pros. We can't let up now.

Lots of fans disguised as empty seats.

Posted by: P Diddy | December 30, 2006 8:00 PM | Report abuse

Well, I'm tired of the NFL Network devoting this game to the Giants...that's all they have talked about...Eli...Tiki....Coughlin...enough!!!

Look on the bright side, it's just like pre-season. We get to see more kickoff returns so that we can figure out who makes the team and who gets cut.

I think the 'Skins should hire Tiki Barber as the Associate Head Coach of Not Fumbling.

Posted by: P Diddy | December 30, 2006 8:16 PM | Report abuse

Yes, dealer, that's the reason. I watched the local Fox HD feed of a Seahawks NFL Network game and it was horrible compared to NFL Network's straight up HD feed.

Seems like a Mad Dog game.

Posted by: P Diddy | December 30, 2006 8:19 PM | Report abuse

I guess I'm old school, but the choreography from Moss when he makes a first down catch and Carter's posing for Mt. Rushmore after a sack would be more impressive on a team that hadn't embarrassed itself all year.

Okay, I bet on him. Sorry.

Posted by: SMACK | December 30, 2006 8:21 PM | Report abuse

This is precisely why I love NFL Network. The other networks never show something like that Betts replay. They just forget about it and move on. Doesn't excuse the fumble, obviously, but it does explain why the NFL Network has their stuff together much better than what we, as a last place team, have been used to over the last several weeks.

Back to my beer analogy - it's a Beast game with BL in the wings cause I'm gonna drink and drink and drink and drink and think "Dude I am a killer drinker." Then suddenly I'll puke and then I'll rally and drink some more and then have some hideous hang over the next day.

Posted by: sfskin | December 30, 2006 8:28 PM | Report abuse

Wow. If I were a conspiracy theorist I'd believe the Jints are laying down to get Coughlin dumped and Weis signed. Or maybe they are just really, really bad right now.

Posted by: pigskin | December 30, 2006 8:29 PM | Report abuse

OK, I'm watching NFL Network on NBC in NYC and they just showed the home depot ad w/ redskins colors. Huh?

Posted by: Comic Relief | December 30, 2006 8:29 PM | Report abuse

Diddy, George Foreman made an in-booth appearance in the MCCB. I still love that guy, despite The Grill. Remember when he was just coming out at 330lbs and hammering people with vertical punches. That was great. Boxing blows now.

Posted by: Smack | December 30, 2006 8:29 PM | Report abuse

Really think Weis would love Notre Dame for the Giants? Notre Dame is the plum job in college, in a relatively low pressure environment compared to NYC.

Posted by: P Diddy | December 30, 2006 8:30 PM | Report abuse

By thew way how does the NFL Network going to get people who don't have the Network to ask for the Network if they can't see the Network and therefore not see the ads.

Posted by: sfskin | December 30, 2006 8:31 PM | Report abuse

What does it mean if Dungy has better ads than Peyton?

Posted by: Comic Relief | December 30, 2006 8:32 PM | Report abuse

Okay the Dungy Motorola ad is really quite funny.

Posted by: sfskin | December 30, 2006 8:32 PM | Report abuse

Foreman rocks, totally agree. I love how all his kids are named George. You gotta love eccentric, fun people.

Boxing lacks star power...either someone you love (Ali, Holyfield, Foreman in his later years) or someone you hate (Tyson). I don't know enough to know if the game has changed in the ring, but outside the ring, the promoters simply don't have anyone with charisma to work with.

Posted by: P Diddy | December 30, 2006 8:33 PM | Report abuse

I think they are doing rolling free previews sfskin. You have to dangle that carrot somehow.

Posted by: smack | December 30, 2006 8:33 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: Comic Relief | December 30, 2006 8:34 PM | Report abuse

sfskin, it's because it's NFL Network "Free View" week. Everyone should be able to see it without paying more. They've been showing that same commercial on broadcast games on Fox and CBS.

Posted by: P Diddy | December 30, 2006 8:34 PM | Report abuse

Okay does our team get together and say "Hey guys don't forget we DON'T tackle Tiki."

Posted by: sfskin | December 30, 2006 8:34 PM | Report abuse

Rocky!

Posted by: P Diddy | December 30, 2006 8:35 PM | Report abuse

Actually, I doubt Weis would leave ND. He'd be crazy to risk the flogging of the NY media when he can go 8-3 every year at ND playing Army, Navy, Air Force, the FBI academy, the Coast Guard intramural team, etc...

Are they going to talk about JC's article?

Posted by: Comic Relief | December 30, 2006 8:39 PM | Report abuse

I think it was back on the monster thread where someone hypothesized that the reason they signed Archuleta was insurance against Sean Taylor's legal troubles. I think that's the most sensible thing I've heard so far. Otherwise, this makes no sense whatsoever.

You work for Microsoft?

It's a decent company, interned there in summer of 2004, but it was a totally awful fit. I'm a phd student, and they stuck me in a product group as a coder. While I can code, I continued my education to be a thinker/problem solver, not code things that anyone else can code. horrible summer overall, though the pay wasn't bad.

Though should have known it would be a bad summer when I showed up at LGA for my 7am flight (at 5am) to only find out MS Travel forgot to ticket my reservation!!!! And of Course AmEx couldn't help as MS Travel doesn't open till 7 AM Pacific. At least they had to buy me a same day ticket so I flew first class to Seattle.

Joe must go, along with double-G, Saunders and Cerrato!

Posted by: Montana'Skins Fan | December 30, 2006 9:07 PM | Report abuse

Gozer, you are Mr. Retro today. I loved Joe T's facemask. Didn't Moseley also have a single bar? Great stuff.

Posted by: P Diddy | December 30, 2006 9:07 PM | Report abuse

I wonder if Ladell Betts has ever got called for holding?

Posted by: Comic Relief | December 30, 2006 9:07 PM | Report abuse

I believe Chip "Shot" Lohmiller also had the one bar as did many kickers in the 80s

Posted by: Comic Relief | December 30, 2006 9:08 PM | Report abuse

At this point, I'm enjoying the slings and arrows to Grilliams' ego from this clueless defensive performance.

Thanks JM.

>>> "Can someone please explain NASCAR to me?"

Afraid not.

BUT, I did decide to try and get into it earlier this year. I bought the NASCAR field pass thingy that let me listen on any pit crew/driver radio over the Internets. It was stupid, and the only thing I could think of was I wished it was available in the NFL.

If Roger Goodell wants to double NFL revenues, this is the kind of stuff he needs to do. Do it on a one-play delayed basis or something. Give us on-field microphones live over the Internets. Give us the ability to watch any game, with any camera angle we want. Let us be the director.

The Skins are letting a team that has lost 6 out of their last 7 games run roughshod all over them. This could be a 45-7 game!

I figured this would happen.....too much press about how bad the Giants were....it always works in that teams favor....and we have been helping them all night!

The following pairings of announcers I would consider far preferable to Gumbel and Collinsworth:

- Bjork & Sam Huff
- Kathy Ireland & Assy McGee

Last season he ran over the Skins by over 200 yards, and in this game he had 130 yards by the first half. HELLO!?!?! is retirement the only way the Skins can stop Barber?! if you need more reason to fire gibbs, we spend a ton to get lloyd, archileta (or whatever his name is), randle el, carter, and have we gotten anywhere near a good return on these guys? SOMEHOW MOSS IS STILL THE ONLY RECEIVER GETTING OPEN WITH COOLEY with lloyd and randle el no where on offense. that archileta guy, what a joke. williams is an overconfident bozo. gibbs is too conservative with his play calling. we need a GM to put these guys into their place. we gave up a high draft pick for duckett and he carries the ball once or twice a game and more than likely will go somewhere else next season. everybody else in the NFC east builds a defense first and move on from there, the redskins think they can do it with a bunch of underachievers on defense and it shows. we spend on ton on offense and the recievers still cant get open. WHAT A JOKE GIBBS 2 HAS BEEN!!

ONE MORE THING, SEAN TAYLOR IS ANOTHER LAVAR HARRINGTON ON THE TEAM AND HE NEEDS TO GO TOO. WHEN HE ACTUALLY TACKLES SOMEONE, HE BRINGS IT ON, BUT WHEN HE IS OUT OF POSITION HE IS CLEARLY OUT OF POSITION just like harrington was. just like harrington, he is a liability on the team.

Umm jj it's Arrington - they dropped the H when the family came through Ellis island.

Megskin - you are en fuego girlfriend keep it up. . . don't make Megskin angry . . . you wouldn't like her when she's angry. . .

who is the GM on the team? that is right, dear old Gibbs. i know he was a god back then, but i don't know what he is now. let's be realistic, if this had been anybody else, and had it not been for his past glories, you TOO would have been calling for his head. his offseason moves alone has been disastrous.

We have a good QB, RB, and kicker :-)

Does anyone have ideas as to how we can organize a Boycott?
It is our duty as Redskins fans to put an end to this. BEGIN THE BOYCOTT NOW!! Thing WILL NOT change if we keep GIVING Snyder the most profitable franchise in the NFL.
The facts speak for themselves. For a very long time now, we have been one of the 5 WORST teams in the NFL, and we have made ZERO PROGRESS since Snyder took over.
And now it's clear that Gibbs cannot save us... not by himself.
We must boycott until a real GM is brought in.
But how do we get this started?
Fans in Detroit were able to do something that got some attention this year (a planned 'walk out' of a home game was announced on ESPN and other national media shows).
If Detroit fans can do it, we can do it too, but more effectively.
Please prove to me that us Redskins fans care more about their team than Lions fans!!
Can anyone put up a post with thoughts on how to organize a boycott against all things Snyder (Redskins, Six Flags, etc) until a GM is hired?

Posted by: The Boycott should start NOW | December 31, 2006 12:08 AM | Report abuse

What exactly is Gibbs smoking? He thinks getting run over by Tiki and the hapless Giants is showing character, a week after getting run and passed over by the Rams?

That dude is seriously messed up. He really must be in the early stages of dementia. Fire his dumb a#@ along with Double-G, Vinny and Colonel Saunders!

I don't know how to organize a boycott, but if someone has a plan, I will certainly participate. This is totally unacceptable. I used to love this team, now I don't even recognize them.

Posted by: Lisa | December 31, 2006 12:33 AM | Report abuse

You are right Lisa... but I'm not saying we should fire anyone like they were calling for in Detroit... I'm saying boycott until Danny hires a GM.
I do believe that Redskins fans have stronger feelings for their team than Lions fans, so I would think a fan based protest by Skins fans would be a big deal.

Posted by: Boycott guy | December 31, 2006 12:36 AM | Report abuse

The only thing that will get Snyder's attention is if the losing starts to impact him on his bottomline- as in stop buying Redskins paraphernalia on the internet or at the stores, stop buying food, drinks, etc. at the games, and finally stop going to the games and stop watching them on tv (as in no preseason scrimmages, no coach this show or "late night" randle el or whatever) Finally stop buying the products that they push during the timeouts at the games-(that may be a tough one since Popeyes and Papa John's are so good!)

Posted by: simiskin | December 31, 2006 1:42 AM | Report abuse

someone please explain to me why joe gibbs shouldn't be fired. this is the 3rd worst redskins team in my entire lifetime (28 years)! and the 6-10 record a couple years ago is 4th worst!

anyone who defends gibbs at this point has their head so far up their butt it's coming back out the top and is in the right spot again.

All Skins Fans - thanks be to Boycott guy (which is NOT me, BTW) - 1 person can make a difference, even if it's just for his/her own good.

I haven't gone to Exxon since '89 (yes they polluted a coastline and killed wildlife, but they also almost killed an industry, and for some families, did - fishing). I've never gone to a Wal-Mart, haven't bought Skins gear/tickets, whatever, since '92 - haven't bought Bullets gear since '94 (especially after they changed to Wiz).

I know my money alone doesn't affect (or effect?) their collective bottom line, but together with other consumers, it will (which "effect" is correct here?).

Now, I am also a Red Sox fan, and have been since I can remember (Dwight Evans IS my favorite player - no new player can surpass what he as a "player" meant to me, though Ortiz comes close). I know the Sox have become the same Empire as the Yankees (and that sucks), and I hope (I can't believe I'm writing this) the O's find succcess soon - their fans deserve it.

BUT - those Orioles fans are EXACTLY who Skins fans should look up to! Empty the seats, and things will get addressed (or maybe they won't, in which case, you'll save your money and time anyway).

Now, to continue this rant - Brunell did NOT deserve the boos when coming in in relief - a little more class from the fans should have been shown (who was the highest rated passer this year for the Skins?). I do remember Theismann going through it too in '78, '80, half of '81 and '85 until "The Break". Jason Campbell should be shown more respect next year, but at some point, I'm sure he will get booed, too (and by the same folk).

Gibbs is the man (to blame). He knows that, but should do something going into the offseason (FIRE Dale Lindsey, that rotten soul, and Steve Jackson).

Have at me.

BTW - If you check out the blog for DC Sports Chick, you'll find she did not like JLaC's efforts covering the Caps. Jason, apparently you did not write your guts out superconscientiously on that job. You should have been fired!

Great season everybody! Thanks for making me laugh and sharing all the good news, baby talk, Britney Spears, etc. Two end of year comments from me:

1. Does anyone have ideas as to how we can organize a Boycott?

I posted on this a few weeks ago. There is little to be done that can hurt the Redskins economically other than not renewing season tickets. Spiritually, psychologically and emotionally however, starting a brown paper bag head movement would send the message that the Skins are an embarassment along the lines of the cardinals, lions and browns. Attend training camp, autograph sessions and preseason with a BPB on your head that says "Redskins General Manager" on it.

2. Mad props to BOOFER for not posting even one of the 450+ posts in our humiliating season ending defeat blog.

Hasta luego from Spain. Call me when I can change my handle to the newest batch of core redskins that have gone away.

I'm thinking "Clinton Vernon Dockery".

Shotgun,

I so agree with you about the Brunell booing. The fans have been wicked to him and last night he was sent in because Campbell was dinged. So fans, what did you want? No QB in there? He actually ran and almost picked up a first down. Saddens me to think the Skins fans are turning into Eagle-like fans.

what? no one's fired yet?

Posted by: dealer | December 31, 2006 9:17 AM | Report abuse

I watched the whole thing last night. The defense played just as expected and tackled worse than they did against St. Louis.

Williams was quoted as saying that they would roll up their sleeves and get this fixed in the offseason - HOW? There is no way they can possibly replace all the deadwood in that defense with no draft choices. Dbacks; linebackers and most of the Dline are bad; in addition they are getting killed in cover 2 which is one of the safest defenses a good team can play (well one that has decent cornerbacks can play). The coaching is another disaster as the linebacking play has been going downhill ever since Dale Lindsay took over and the Dbacks have really profited from having both a safety and corner coach - never mind the players communicating; DO THE COACHES EVER COMMUNICATE? If they do it does not show up on the field. Did anyone miss Holdman after he went out?

Sean Taylor played his usual game - out of position and hitting late - he just missed getting flagged on several occasions. Carlos Rodgers is obviously out of touch with good play if he thinks holding on to his six dropped interceptions would have put him in the pro bowl. I hope that Springs stays healthy next year because he is the only real pro back there. Maybe the skins should lobby for a change in the rules about covering pass receivers so they could go back to cutting them down before they get off the line.

Nuff said! The defense again found a way to lose just like they have all year. What hurts is that according to Gibbs they have to really play hard to do it.

Keep blogging guys the reading is great fun.

Sorry Lisa: I won't quit calling for Gibbs' head. He's a sorry-ass excuse for a coach. As long as people like you keep defending the indefensible, he will remain there. What it takes is outrage, a boycott, and people like you to finally see the truth.

They've had great rushing the last few games, and lost (two key fumbles really helped). Jason Campbell played really well last night, and they lost. they're 5-11 for gosh sakes!!

If possible, they're even worse than when St. Joe took over. Please articulate for the group what the benefit of Gibbs staying another season or two is. The defense has gone from third to ninth to probably 35th. He stuck with Brunell way too long, and even went back on his word last night when he put Brunell back in rather than Collins. He says the same tired garbage after every game that even he doesn't believe. He's simply prostituing himself for his NASCAR money. Get rid of the whole tired bunch.

What's going to improve dramatically in the off-season? Signing Daunte Culpepper? Hiring Charlie Casserly back as GM? Remember, this is the guy who wiffed on Vince Young, Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart, but was savvy enough to take Mario Williams....

The Giants will likely pick up Charlie Weis, the Cowboys will improve with Romo, and the Eagles are bound to be even better next year. We, on the other hand, will bring up the cellar with the same ridiculous defense and tired old cliches after every loss. Meanwhile, a has-been coach will continue to collect over $5 million and laugh his way to the bank, all the while saying how sorry he is for the fans. Nobody's sorrier than you, Joe, unless it's double-G. See the cashier on your way out. Ron Rivera, table for one right this way....

MontanaSkinsFan,

I was not defending Gibbs - only stating what has been said OVER and OVER again - he is not going ANYWHERE in 2007. So you might as well get over it and move onto something else....even another team if his presence bothers you that much. I live here in DC - not Montana - and watch and read every thing local here about the Skins. Gibbs has said he's not going anywhere, he has been ADAMANT about that, and that's the way it is. So crying for him to leave from Montana is a USELESS waste of energy.

Posted by: Lisa | December 31, 2006 10:11 AM | Report abuse

My friend I am willing to give Coach Joe one more year. However, there are things he must do in the off season.

1. Kick double G in the ass and the rest of his coaches and tell them get the hell out!
2. Take more control of the team or let someone else be head coach.
3.Bring back the hard hitting (in the pit and those that played know what I am talking about) summer camp
4. Bring in a good GM
If he can't do these things, then I am with you he should step down.

Posted by: Lisa | December 31, 2006 10:13 AM | Report abuse

Lisa, I don't think Charlie Weiss is so great in college. Hell when was the last time army, airforce, navy, north carolina, and stanford been good?

Posted by: jm220 | December 31, 2006 10:23 AM | Report abuse

Wow... what an embarrassing way to end this pitiful season. Without Campbell's miraculous play in the 2nd half, we have gotten blown out.

What's even more disturbing is that Gibbs still thinks that they have the guys in place to win. Really? You just came off a 5-11 season, buddy. It also bothered me that it was like pulling teeth for him to finally appoint JC the starter for next year. Geesh.

Oh, and our defense is flat out pathetic. Grilliams should be held accountable, not just for his crummy D, but for the Archuleta fiasco.... but he won't... because no one is held accountable on the Redskins.

Finally, I'd love to hear Gibby say how overrated the cap is now. We are 1 mill OVER the cap and only have 43 guys under contract for next season. I have no idea how we're going to make any kind of decent upgrades, especially with the Archuleta and Lloyd (maybe) cuts.

We are pathetic... disgusting... an embarrasment to this city of loyal fans. Damn right you should feel sorry for us, Joe... you have destroyed this franchise.

Thank god for Campbell, because without him we'd have absolutely NOTHING to look forward to for the next 2-3 years. And even then we'll probably be doing the same STUPID things. I hate this organization right now... let me know when the revolt is.

Posted by: Ricky Bobby | December 31, 2006 10:32 AM | Report abuse

jm, i'm going to have to agree with the annonymous poster above. JC scored 3 TD's in the second half, made all the throws when they didn't count for much (like hitting a homerun in a 12-0 blowout to make it 12-4 in the 9th inning).

but when it mattered the most he couldn't even make ONE lousy throw in 4 straight tries? the first down decision was bad and looked like he was a bit nervous and then it went all downhill from there.

of course the playcalling is attrocious and isn't helping him much. only if they could create a time manager position on that coaching staff. but with more than 2 minutes to go, with a stoppage of time coming at 2 minutes. why not f-ing run a some sort of running play? 2 minutes is a lot of time...eternity!

honestly if there was a better OC on this team, better HC, yes, a better HC who knows how to handle a young QB UNLIKE GIBBS. where he gets a pass because "he likes veterans at QB" but excuse me who the F-ck doesn't??????? he simply isn't good with young QB's and worse is the one calling plays.

i'd be excited about next year but i'm not. yeah JC made awesome throws but he didn't when it mattered the most. yes, it's the idiot in the press box, mr. 700 pages...but he'll be back next year so it seems...so why should i be excited? for him to call a f-ing ARE pass??????

again with the D decimated(sp) with injuries:
1. best D player out
2. best and the only LB out
3. 50 year old starting at safety
4. starting D lineman out

if this is a f-ing team game how the F does saunders call those pass plays in the first half? so what if they result in TD's...YOUR, YES YOUR's, DEFENSE isn't that good SAUNDERS!!!!!!!!!!! PROTECT YOUR D! PROTECT YOUR TEAM!

Posted by: dealer | December 31, 2006 10:41 AM | Report abuse

Questions???

1) Can't we argue that our O-line is becoming one of the best in the league?
2) Are'nt you excited to see what Jason Campbell does next season?
3)Why is Ide Jimoh still on this team?
4)Even though Sean Taylor's been stinkin' it up, wouldn't you rather play with him than against him?
5)Do you hate Smokin' Al Coken as much as I do?(Sports talk 980) (If I hear one more rant from him, I'll scream)!!!!
6) Of all the Redskins we let go...doesn't Antonio Pierce hurt the most?
7) What will be our record next season?
8) Why do the Redskins have so many coaches?
9) How many picks will we be able to get back in the off-season? (I say we'll get two)
10) Why is everybody screamin' for a GM?
Could a GM keep Tiki Barber from running for over 2 bills?

Posted by: sicwidit | December 31, 2006 10:43 AM | Report abuse

Dealer I think we all forget that Campbell has not played in two years. He didn't do anything until he got the starting job. Damn what the hell do you guys want from the man? LBM has been a starter for 3 years (or two) and he look a lot worse than Campbell.

Posted by: jm220 | December 31, 2006 10:53 AM | Report abuse

There is a bright side. Now you direct all your football energy toward Cowboys-hatin'.

Posted by: SMACK | December 31, 2006 11:06 AM | Report abuse

Dealer, not sure I agree with your 3 run hr in a blowout analogy for JC's performance. Yeah, the last series was bad, but I wondered more about the play calling than Jason's play. Seeing David Patten on the field, I kept channeling Unnecessary Roughness; "Al/Joe, maybe this isn't the best time to make sure everybody's played this season"

Jason's 2nd half play put the Skins in a position for a game winning drive. While a VYesque drive to win the game would have been great to see, I think you're asking too much from a young QB in his 7th start.

Where you hit the nail on the head was your analysis of the Skins secondary. I have no idea how it can be fixed with the Skins cap/draft situation, but it's a complete disaster. JM220, I support your idea of booting/smacking double G in the head/ass while shooing him to the curb, but w/o Springs on the field, I think any DC would be extremely hesitant about putting 8 guys in the box with the defensive backfield the Skins sported the last 2 games.

jm, so you want to compare him to a QB that'll probly be washed up by end of next year? why not compare him to carson palmer, ben roth, phillip rivers?

and sorry jm, i didn't finish my criticism of him. and that was that if he was good for most of second half when they were seemingly out of it and then 4 incompletes in a row...THAT's not lack of practice. that's lack of IT. i saw jeff george do the same exact thing. albert bell do the same thing. padilla(not padilla that dude that played for mets, orioles, marlins in that order) do the same thing. he ought to have been better in that situation. and i'm sorry no amount of practice can teach him to be clutch. either you have it or you don't. i don't know. i'm just frustrated with this org. all you JC lovers all i gotta say is that this team isn't going anywhere for long if they don't do something with that FO structure.

my only glimmer of hope for him is the last throw...if that dude doesn't get his finger on that ball it's first down...

man, again i'll repeat. it's not JC, AA, AC, double G...it's the front office!!!! there's no way to solve this problem unless they get it in their head that this is not the way you build a winner.

phillip rivers have LT. Enough said on that one. (once again thanks Betts)

I am sure this has been said several times, but B. Llyod needs to go. However nice the guy is, he can't play and his teammates don't like him. If cutting Llyod means you keep A-squared, so be it. At least he gives us something (special teams) and we have more problems in the secondary then at WR. The only caveate of all this, of course, is that Grilliams needs to GET OVER HIMSELF, and find a way to best use Arch.

Two pieces of good insight yesterday (between the burping) from the commentators:

1) Marshall is too small to play MLB. He is very good OLB, but we don't need him to play that anymore with Washington and McIntosh.
2) JC feels much more comfortable with Cooley because of the way he plays in practice. During the offseason, hopefully JC will be able to get to that comfort level with his WRs.

None of the games today are meaningful in any way, are they?

Might as well go mow my imaginary lawn or something.

Maybe I'll do some crunches.

WOW USC doesn't want Reggie Bush to show up for their bowl game!

The boycott talk is interesting. "Mr." Snyder cannot be hurt financially with this franchise. The only way you can get to him is by not attending games and by not selling your tickets. The vast majority of the 'Skins revenue comes from merchandise and concessions, including parking and those crappy hot dogs at FedEx. Make them see empty seats until they start winning. Don't buy 'Skins stuff.

That's what I plan on doing next year. With the silly travel rules (thanks to the bumbling idiots at the TSA), it's simply too hard to fly to DC for a football game and fly back. So why bother? I'll just walk 10 blocks down the street to the Seahawks game or get on a luggage-less flight to San Diego.

As for merchandise...I won't buy anything with the word "Redskins" anyway. Kind of a slap in the face to all the Native American folks here in Seattle, as it turns out.

Last season, in response to an anemic offense, Coach Joe stubbornly stuck with Brunnel instead firing himself in favor of ASaunders. After nine games it became painfully obvious Brunnel, and not Coach Joe, was the real offensive culprit. So isn't it ironic that with the defense now broke how GWilliams has blamed their struggles on the "scheme". Well I'm afraid it's the players coupled with poor coaching. When will the Redskins begin objectively assessing and repairing their deficiencies from season to season? Only when someone is hired to run the personnel side possessing the qualifications and autonomy critical to success. In other words, don't hold your breath.

All of these draft choices surrendered end up becoming more expensive with every losing season. Just think what Lloyd and Duckett potentially cost. And now they will renegotiate their current players extending, and exacerbating, their futility.

Danny must go for the healing to begin.

I know what the problem with the defense was all season. Someone somehow convinced the defense that they signed contracts to play touch football. This should be remedied in the off season and they should be ready next season to actually tackle someone.

All kidding aside - all of the changes this team needs to make is to get some young players who know how to tackle. I noticed that the special teams players seem to make tackles and have proper form in nailing guys below the waist so they must have gotten the memo that this is a tackle football league.

Personally, I am glad it's over. I can't take watching another missed tackle on the defense. The last 2 weeks this defense gave up 71 points (the offense scored 59) and gave up massive chunks of yardage through missed tackles, poor angles, brutal technique, etc... This was one season that I will forget but the nightmares of the arm tackling will linger.

Also, the pregame ritual of all of the DB's and linebackers dipping their hands in butter has to end. These guys couldn't catch a cold. Fox dropped an int that cost the Skins 7 points and Marshall had a pass hit him in the back. Even Rogers could have had a pick. The real thing that killed this team was the complete lack of turnovers this year. The inability to work with a short field for the offense accounted for the handful of losses by 6 points or less this year.

Outside of getting another TALL receiver, and maybe some O-Line depth because next year is not going to be the same as this year in terms of health, all of the focus should be at upgrading the defense with people who can tackle, catch and cover and rush the passer. That's not too much to ask? Oh, yeah, these are the same people who thought Arch Deluxe would be a good fit. Well, there is always 2008.

Hey there! Who's ready for the last regular-season Sunday of the season?

Posted by: Jason's editor | December 31, 2006 12:46 PM | Report abuse

Berocca. I wish. I'll be drinking the sweet, sweet nectar of NFL wild-card assignments. It would really stink for us and our deadlines if everything comes down to that Packers-Bears game.

I thought all the games were meaningless today? I'm certainly not going to watch the Packers game because I know the broadcast team will be blathering on and on about Brett Favre's last game. Blah blah blah.

Posted by: P Diddy | December 31, 2006 1:07 PM | Report abuse

Dealer, buy a clicker.
:)
we have pokes-lions on 5 and stillers-bengals on 9. we're also watching titans-pats and jets-raiders (i know, i know, but we've got some copy coming up on them this week....).

Posted by: Jason's editor | December 31, 2006 1:11 PM | Report abuse

The games are never ever meaningless! In fact, games are the only thing in life that has any meaning.

Posted by: Jason's editor | December 31, 2006 1:13 PM | Report abuse

And somehow, all commercials on at the same time.

Posted by: SMACK | December 31, 2006 1:14 PM | Report abuse

At least we should know what number we will be in the draft by the end of the day.

Wow, we hit close to 500 posts on this thread, with a crappy and meaningless game. We've got this blogging thing down pat, I think.

BTW, want to know why I hate children: it's the little girl on the AIG commercial. Though I must admit, I'm afraid of all little people: children, midgets, and Tom Cruise.

In the Jerz we have Jets -Raiders early game. Then Eagles- Dirty Bird late game on fox and Dolphins - Colts.

I'm watching New England and Tennessee. One can only hope Vince Young can help me get rid of my hangover.

I wonder where Clinton Portis is going for New Year's...

At least the Brett Favre "last game" talk will take the place of the TIKI BARBER "last game" talk. I'm sooo sick of hearing about it. Saw Tiki interviewed after the game and he has become egotistical and somewhat arrogant.

I'm totally going back to bed. Someone wake me up if Vince Young does something cool.

Posted by: P Diddy | December 31, 2006 1:25 PM | Report abuse

wow its gotten ugly on here....

1. Quit bashing Campbell! The kid is one of our few bright spots and if he pans out, and the returns are positive, it will be a huge relief/factor going forward. Plus the kid is a gamer who leaves it on the field...with all the things to bash some people on this blog pick the stupidest battles...

2. Gibbs, lets just cut the dude a little holiday slack. I don't disagree with the critism, but heck he has gotten to playoffs once and well...he just deserves some respect. Also his pressers in Era I were just as asinine he was "Mr. No News" when Belichek was fetching coffe...

3. Wow turning on JM220 with unsigned posts. That is a new low on this blog. JM is a gregarious respectful dude who puts is a freakin saint for what he did in N'orleans. JM I got your back...

4. I think everyone needs a timeout. The season has been brutal and were all raw.

Posted by: Chris Larry | December 31, 2006 1:25 PM | Report abuse

Well said Chris Larry. Except #4. We have to keep blogging our guts out. What else do we have? I would have to go outside and talk to people. Can't have that.

Posted by: P Diddy | December 31, 2006 1:26 PM | Report abuse

The Vince Young TD pass that nearly was a TD was pretty cool....Cowboys look horrendous - against Detroit! Sweet Chiefs TD on a blocked punt....

Looking to next season...

Two low cost Free agents the skins should get

1. LB Donnie Edwars: Will be a cap casuality in SD. Great vetern could be a godsend to this D. Great turnover guy.

2. Marcus Robinson: Great third WR canidate with big size and a knack for the endzone.

Both these dudes can be had for low cost

Meanwhile, somebody should arrest Ed Hochuli for having those guns on the field!

Posted by: Jason's editor | December 31, 2006 1:36 PM | Report abuse

Chris Larry,

Donnie Edwards is not only a great player but also a great "character" guy. But we have no $$$ for anything. Already have to cut a lot of players. The Skins may be the Titans of two years ago when they had to clean house.
