Artis Hicks happy for fellow former Eagle Donovan McNabb

For four seasons beginning in 2002, offensive lineman Artis Hicks and quarterback Donovan McNabb played together with the Philadelphia Eagles.

During that time, Hicks grew to respect and admire McNabb for his work ethic, professionalism and dedication to his teammates. Hicks was among many NFL players stunned that the Eagles traded the six-time Pro Bowler to the Redskins - one of their NFC East rivals - but the surprising move also pleased Hicks because he left Minnesota in free agency in March to join Washington.

Having worked alongside McNabb in Philadelphia, whose sports fans are among the most ruthless in all of sports, Hicks understood better than most the sense of accomplishment McNabb felt after Sunday's 17-12 victory in his first game at Lincoln Financial Field since the trade.

"I was ecstatic for him," said Hicks, who started at right guard for the fourth straight game but came out late because of an unspecified illness. "He wanted to come back here and have a great showing. Not only to win but to win convincingly. I know he felt slighted about being traded.

"But, you know, sometimes change is necessary. It was a blessing to us, to the Redskins, that he was traded here. It was a blessing that we could get a guy like that, a guy like Donovan. I know he's feeling good about his performance, feeling good about what he accomplished. And you know what? He should."

When is someone going to make Carlos Rogers go see an eye doctor???

Seriously, he can't be that uncoordinated.

Carlos Rogers = NERD who's dropped 3 game clinching interceptions this year!

Posted by: monk811 | October 4, 2010 8:25 AM

Good morning monk...aren't you happy that I had you change your prediction? haha

Oh...and McNabb had more rushing yards than Vick...and the skins won.

Disappointing? Always.

But if you are surprised that Los muffed an INT that hit him right in his hands, then you haven't been watching Skins games for the past 4-5 years.

How great was that end-of-game scramble by Donovan McNabb on 3rd down to keep the chains moving?

How many times has he kicked the Skins in the nads with those kinds of drive-saving scrambles over the past dozen years?

Now he's doing it FOR the Skins AGAINST Philly.

Sweet.

Great play but he has to stay in bounds. Inexcusable that he didn't.

If you beat the teams in your division, you go to the playoffs. McNabb is 2-0. Last year, Eagle fans blamed him for the losses to Dallas. What does he do in response? He beats Dallas in a new system, then beats the team who blamed him.

I've been watching, but he's nearly costing games, and will cost games at some point.

This is getting rediculous. He needs to seriously get his eyes checked.

ray, its got nothing to do with his eye's...he's not catching them with his eye's...its his HANDS that are just fundamentally flawed...I'm not sure that he's putting in the effort to get better at catching either...

I've always thought the same thing. He's got a problem with depth perception.

Are you an optometrist? There are other reasons why guys can't catch passes. Diesel44 is a neurologist. He can check the guy's eye-hand coordination.

Probably Brandon Banks again, even though it was good to see them slowly working him in with the punt returns and the 2 plays close to the goal line! I don't know, maybe he's safe now cause of his play???

Also, I'm kinda surprised Devin Thomas is still yet to see the offensive side of the ball, and Banks got on the field sooner than he did. Is he that inept at playing receiver??? I mean, at least a bubble screen or reverse or something! Even if the play in the huddle from McNabb goes something like this:
"Alright, Z41, trips left, shallow cross. And Devin, you line up over there, see where I'm pointing? And when I say hut for the 3rd time, you run over there, do you understand? Devin? Stop looking at the birds in the sky! (2 seconds left on play clock) Oh crap, timeout!! Screw it, Galloway, run a go route!!"

The poor guy just can't catch. He never will be able to. We just need to live with that. Guy def. would be in the pro bowl if he could catch even half the ones he drops.

McNabb running out of bounds baffled me... I will say he just had a brain fart.. and I hope we get an explanation on what McNabb was doing on his pick. Hopefully that was the reciever running the wrong route. That was ugly.

brown, while I agree with the concept of dumping Heyer, not enough depth...

I'm thinking perhaps Buchanon goes, and Barnes starts to get some time...

Skins being outscored 52-13 in 2nd half this year.

That won't keep us at .500.

Need to stop going into conservative shell.

But then it's a Sunday night game against the Colts so don't get too comfy...

Morning folks.

I'm going to continue to gloat over my winning prediction for the Redskins. It was a similar feeling I had the days before the Dallas game. Now, for my game analysis:

Despite the stat sheet, DM5 had a good game. It was really a tale of two halves for him though. He went 6/8 with 115 yards, 1 TD, and an almost perfect 156.3 rat. In the 2nd, he went 2/11 with 10 yards and 1 INT for a hilariously low (but not zero) 1.7 rat. His INT was really, really bad, but he did have major contributions running for ball for first downs, but rushing isn't the focus for a QB (unless you're Vick of course). The great sign, however, is that Donovan won a close game even while passing less than 20 times.

The O-line showed up for a complete game. Both rush and pass blocking looked great. DM5 was sacked only once. The only problem: SH74. I counted at least 3 penalties on him including a crucial red zone 3rd down. To Heyer's credit, however, he did have a great seal-in block for RT46's 12-yard scamper, but I look forward to Trent's return.

The Redskins need a RB by committee. CP looked great, but years under Gibbs' power running have taken a bruising toll on CP. Despite the toll (and the criticism), he can still run and his blocking is still valuable. RT46 hits the hole hard. He's hungry, and he wants the ball. P-T has arrived.

Receivers are still lacking. CC47 was solid as always. If AA13 keeps his feet, that's 2 TD passes for DM5, but it's good that we can win without relying too heavily on SM89.

Where was this defense the last two weeks? They were fantastic! It looked like the game plan for the D-line was not to over-pursue Vick, so it didn't look like there was much QB pressure. LA97 was an improvement over AC99 (CONTAINMENT!). AH92 had a good game: he made a big 3rd down stop by single-handedly clogging up that nose and eating McCoy, and he drew a hold on that Vick injury-scamper.

So much for our inferior secondary. They shut down everyone. Those underneath check-downs and screens were frustrating, but it ultimately prevented the big play. The Eagles have had more time of possession, but for a team that relies heavily on the big play/quick strike, that is a good sign. It's almost counter-intuitive to think that winning time of possession works against the Eagles. The Eagles offense was clearly frustrated by staying on the field for too long without scoring quickly.

Lastly but briefly, Andy Reid's lack of awareness and poor clock management unravels the Eagles again. The ending of the 1st half was HUGE.

Great victory. Green Bay next Sunday. Packers are going to be tough.

The Eagles and Redskins both stink this year. McNabb is one of the highest paid players in the league and he passed for 10 yards in the second half !

How does an 11 year vetran not know to stay inbounds when you are trying to run out the clock ?

Green Bay by 2 TD's in a romp.

lets not go off the deep end mcnabb helped defeat eagles and the rest of the team helped also. mcnabb had a solid 1st half bad 2nd but the big 1st down run in the 4th qtr. took more time off the clock. mcnabb has helped/won many games like this with his arm/legs. this team still has a long way to go defense still giving up big yardage and not many sacks as of yet, o-line needs t. williams and hicks back in the line-up etc. but a ugly win is better than a beautiful loss.

Some of the folks in above E-mails had the same thought as I follwing the game. If Carlos[IRON HANDS] Rodgers could have even come up with just a third of those errant passes thrown his way during his tenure here we would could have more than likely realized 4-5 additional victories throught the years. He's a Hel---uve a tackler and decent cover but he's needs to have hand transplants.Maybe the coaches could have him adopt the football as a tax write-off and he could handle da ball like it's his refund check! Hope he improves on his eye-hand and maybe we can close-out a few games early.
