Betts, Hall injured in scoreless 1st quarter
The two major developments in a scoreless first quarter: Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall suffered a bruise knee and running back Ladell Betts - who is already replacing Pro Bowler Clinton Portis - was lost for the game with a knee injury.
Betts injured himself on a first-down carry on the Redskins' second possession. He will be replaced by veteran Rock Cartwright, who, prior to last week, had just 12 carries in his last three seasons. Cartwright, pressed into action because of Portis's injury, carried nine times for 41 yards against Denver a week ago. He will have to be backed up by Quinton Ganther, signed just a week ago after Portis went down with a concussion.
The Cowboys do not appear to have problems with their running game. The Redskins' defense entered the game ranked first in the NFL against the pass. To the Cowboys, to start the game, that seemed to mean something else: They were vulnerable against the run.
After each team went three-and-out to start the game, the Cowboys began a possession on their own 47, and proceeded to call six straight run plays. The gains, split between Marion Barber and Felix Jones: 9 yards, 4, 8, 8, 8 and 4, moving the ball inside the Redsksins' 20.
But on the final carry, Redskins linebacker London Fletcher jarred the ball loose from Barber. Hall scooped it up, the first turnover of the game. But Hall was injured when he landed on the turf. His return is questionable.
The Redskins ended the quarter by giving up a sack of quarterback Jason Cambpell, a play on which Cartwright failed to pick up linebacker Keith Brooking - a play that was called back because of a penalty on the Cowboys. Still, the offensive line, which was solid against Denver, has been shaky thus far. Right tackle Stephon Heyer was called for two false start penalties in the first quarter.

As soon as I give JC17 props on the last thread, he stands there like a damn deer in the headlights and takes a sack. Just throw it in the 3rd row for crikey's sake.

I think campbell need to work with flash cards to speed up his think ability. Hold up a picture of a dog and he should quickly say "dog". Hold up a defender in his face and he should say "throw the ball away"

Of all the times this year Zorn decides to play wussy football, it's now, when he has an opportunity to go for the end zone from the 21-yard-line. All that waiting around time for Suisham isn't good. He shouldn't have missed, but still, you take a shot and you kick on fourth down. Awful.

Missed attempted FG (that is actually kicked) turns over possession. If there is a fumbled snap or hold problem, you can fall on it and kick again on 4th.

never realistic, Rock is averaging 10 yards a carry and playing really well, JC has had pressure yes, but come on, its the nfl there will always be pressure, he makes some good plays but makes bad plays too often as well, he's just inconsistent.

I would have gone for the end zone but with the lack of pass protection and JC tendency to take a sack instead of throwing the ball away, I quess Zorn did not want to lose the opportunity for 3. Too bad Susiham missed.

"I just figured it out"
There are no plays in Zorn's playbook that allows the QB to throw the ball into the endzone from 21 yards out. That must be the reason because 31 other headcoaches would have take a shot.

I can only assume they were thinking of a trick play and D*ll*s didn't buy it. Ask any FG kicker if he'd rather kick one from under 40 yards, or wait up to 5 minutes on a hostile field before kicking a 35 yarder?

The game was lost by a gutless coaching decision at the end of the half. A better owner would fire whomever made that decision for a 3-6 team.

Although SS did miss two FG's, why try a 50 yard FG when your defense has been playing well? Punt the ball & back them up. More bad coaching, too impatient. Never give a team a short field with a chance to win the game.

Yes, I wanted them to beat up the 'Girls but the result was kind of expected.
If you can't score...you can't win.
The Skins are terrible this year and we ALL need to deal with it. Maybe we'll get some change during the offseason. Aint no way the Skins are running the table to go 9-7 so im gonna finally say...the season is over.
Oh well....there are still great football teams to watch each week. Have fun watching them! I will! Love the skins but I like good football even better. i'm not gonna stop watchin good football just cause the pathetic skins aren't in it.
Take notice and do the same! oh and watch some good SEC, Big 12, TCU, and Boise St, too. Screw the ACC and Big Ten (er wait..11)
