Betts Intends to Play; Portis' Chances '50-50'
From Jason Reid:
The Redskins received encouraging news about their injured top running backs, learning that primary backup Ladell Betts plans to play Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys and that lead back Clinton Portis expressed optimism about making "progress" as he recovers from a sprained knee
Betts returned to practice in a limited role Wednesday for the first time since he sprained his left knee Oct. 12 in a 19-17 loss to the St. Louis Rams. Washington's second-leading rusher with 156 yards, Betts continued to test his knee in team drills Thursday at Redskins Park.
Although he sat out practice today as a precaution, Betts said he would "give it a go" at FedEx Field. "I pushed it pretty hard [Thursday]," Betts said. "It held up, it didn't really bother me, so let's just give it a go.
"I didn't want to let my teammates down. It's a big week for us and I feel good about this, which was the big thing for me. As long as I felt comfortable cutting and planting on it, I think I'm ready to go."
Portis - the NFL's second-leading rusher - has not practiced all week because of a sprained medial collateral ligament, but he would not rule out playing against the Cowboys because "I've got two days left. I'll be in the training room working, trying to get there."
With 995 yards rushing, a 5.0-yard average and seven touchdowns, Portis has been the most productive player on offense for Washington (6-3), which is ahead of Dallas (5-4) in the race for an NFC wild-card berth. Coach Jim Zorn said Portis's chances of playing are only "50-50," but Portis said his knee has responded to treatment this week.
"I'll probably get a good six treatments in, two massages" before the game, Portis said. "I mean, the progress has been better, but I won't say, 'Oh, I'm ready.' I've got 'til Sunday night to make that decision, so that's when I'll make it. It's not a lobbying thing. We're going to see how I feel before the game and make our decision then. It's not lobbying or protest. We're just going to find out."
If Portis and Betts sit out, Shaun Alexander and special teams standout Rock Cartwright could share backfield duties in a "community position," Zorn said. The Redskins hope either Betts or Portis could play, even on a limited basis, as much for their ability in pass protection as their skills with the ball.
"It's going to be great to have Ladell back there," quarterback Jason Campbell said. "He's played before when Clinton has been out and he's done really well. That's definitely a good feeling to know that he'll be back there.
"As far as Clinton, it's hard to say if he'll be out there. He's definitely not at 100 percent, but he's an unusual guy. You know he's going to try hard to be out there. If he can't, we're just going to have to have other guys step up."

"One thing that definitely did not look ragged was the defense. They were, to borrow a phrase, fired up and ready to go in just about all phases of the game. Rocky McIntosh made a terrific leaping interception in the end zone, prompting Greg Blache to yell "Take it back 107, Rocky!" DeAngelo Hall broke up a few passes, and Carlos Rogers also pulled down an INT. They look completely ready for the game."

I believe Erasmus James will be a BEAST for us next season when he is fully healthy. He was still injured on only able to get on the field for the last preseason game. Patience is needed for him.
And here is JLaC trying to interject his beliefs again. The coaches probably have over a combinbed 100 years of coaching experince over JLaC who is all over the place with unknown (to me) bands from the 80s, RedSux, and Hockey........

Nonsense. James isn't hurt, James is lazy. When you get paid 1st round money to pass a physical and subsequently, never play the incentive to compete has to come within. Clearly, James isn't a football player he's highly skilled rent extractor. Zero internal dedication to his craft. Once again, danny boy and is ever skilled talent evaluator have replenished the cistern of incompetence.

My biggest concern is the offensive line protecting in pass coverage and us controlling the clock. No doubt this game is on the shoulders of JC who has played great against the Cowboys but he will need time in the pocket. I fear seeing another one of these games where the D is doing everything in their power to keep the Skins in it and the offense not putting up points.

I agree that the pass protection by the line has been offensive. There is a weak link in pass protection and his name is Jansen.
I amend my earlier doomglooming ... Ladell Betts has to have the kind of game that Shaun Alexander had in 2005.

Speaking of a dead horse, I believe right before he died Torrence's horse said:
"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
Time to die."
And that was just his horse, as previously stated, the horse didn't measure up.

Betts being able to go is huge. He's not the top rusher in the NFL, but he's in the top ten. Skins should win, but there's a lot of media-hype sign for Dallas, like Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders marathon on CMT and Roy Williams running with the American flag in the new joint US Army/NFL ad, which means refs might be seriously biased..Skins need to get ahead and stay ahead as the refs can easily squelch any comebacks with bogus holding calls..Like the first game with the Giants, expect the refs to be rigged and the Skins will have to play above and beyond to win..
