Brandon Banks to spend third night in hospital

By Mike Jones

Washington Redskins kick/punt returner Brandon Banks remains hospitalized for "precautionary reasons" but expects to be released within 24 hours, his agent said in a statement Monday.

On Sunday, Banks's agent, James Gould, said that he would be released that night. It was unclear why the Redskins return specialist has yet to be released.

Gould over the weekend said Banks had suffered superficial knife wounds during a Saturday morning attack outside a D.C. nightclub that also hospitalized a good friend of Banks.

Gould on Monday issued a statement on behalf of his client and thanked fans for the concern and support they have offered since the altercation.

Redskins senior vice president Tony Wyllie said the Redskins' team doctors have been to see Banks at the hospital and verified his progress. Several teammates have also reached out to him to offer their support.

Why is he still in the hospital. I though he had smaller skin cells that healed faster then larger peoples skins cells...
Get better Banks.

*from the bottom of the last thread*

all right, lookit. i said before the season they should just cut the cancer out (after a previous stint on the "leave Albert be" bandwagon).

no, peeps said, that's reactionary. what if he produces, peeps said. 'Skins have all that cash tied up in him, they said.

now...i don't care if they get draft picks for him, don't care if he leads his next team to the friggin' SB, don't care if he's innocent of this latest BS, he's got to GO AWAY.

we're better than this, aren't we?

i'd have to say we're not.

shanahan would dump AH in a second, but meanwhile, $nyder is telling allen not to in order to pull off a trade to get rid of AH and get something in return.

like i said, hess, at this point his trade value shouldn't matter.

aren't you sick of turning on ESPN and, "here's the latest f***up by Washington Redskins defensive tackle AH blah blah"? aren't you just TIRED of it?

it's gotta be getting old in the FO, too. think of Snyder turning off the TV or putting down the paper, "Washington Redskins...sexual assault...Washington Redskins...sexual assault" echoing in his head. just the sheer weight of evidence in favor of just getting rid of #92.

Again, too soon to assume guilt or innocence.

Unfortunately, the dude is frequently in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong people.

Which is a nice balance with his rarely being in the right place at the right time with the right people, i.e. at practice or in games with his teammates.

A damn shame how the Skins players can't seem to create much excitement on the field but have no problem creating excitement - getting stabbed in front of nightclubs and sexually assaulting women at hotels - off the field.

Apparently the culture hasn't changed as much as I had hoped it would. If it had, Shanahan would cut that 330+ lbs of useless blubber NOW. Tonight. Within the hour.

As for Banks, he should spend more time doing something constructive with his evenings besides the cliched, done-to-death, "I was at a nightclub and a fight broke out" crap.

I'll check back in around May.

Peace.

F trade value...AH needs to go NOW:

Police report details allegation against Albert Haynesworth
Posted by Michael David Smith on February 14, 2011, 5:28 PM EST

We noted this afternoon that Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has been accused of sexual assault. Now there are more details about the allegation, which stem from a waitress saying Haynesworth caressed her breast without her consent.

According to a police report obtained by NBC Washington, a waitress at the W Hotel in Washington said she was clearing glasses from a table where Haynesworth was sitting when Haynesworth attempted to pay with his credit card. Because the waitress said her hands were full, Haynesworth asked if he could put the card in the pocket of her blouse.

According to the report, the waitress nodded that Haynesworth could put the card in her pocket, and when he did, he started to caress her breast.

Haynesworth is not named in the report, but NBC Washington confirmed that he is the person referred to as “Subject 1″ in the report.

The waitress says the incident happened at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday. She filed the police report at 5:15 a.m., about four hours later.

This is where I am.

Why?: you know like I do that R Goodell will get involved and suspend AH for a few games, meaning the guy's value in the defense is even lower.

Sign S Rogers as a stop gap and move on.

And before the ink is dry on SR's contract, set AH free to be the D.C. Godzilla he has become.

Man, how this is playing out. Albert Haynesworth despite the significant amount of money he has made in his career, will be broke within the next 3 to 4 years. It's not just if he's guilty and has to pay significant penalties, but its lawyer and court payments that have slowly chipped away at all his finical gain despite if he's guilty or not.

Another dream dies:

Patriots Franchise OL Logan Mankins

Again: Franchise Tagging is something that runs against the concept of Free Agency.

Mankins--like VJAX-has had nothing but an acrimonious relationship with his team's personnel managers.

But Mankins cannot leave the Pats as they have the right to control his movement.

Let the free market decide how much these guys get paid, not some socialistic, pre-set amount based on what someone else's earnings are.

And yes, I'm pissed that neither Mankins nor Jackson will get a shot to take D Snyder's money as many other players have.

Thing is, both Mankins and Jackson are players.

And if it was me, I'd tag'em in a minute, too.

Just get rid of Albert Haynseworth. Enough is enough with this guy.

On to something else. I, more than any other poster, have blind optimism for this team.

But the Redskins are in bad shape and the fans are desperate. Does anyone here think a team like Greenbay, Pittsburgh, New England or Indianapolis are salivating, much less considering a 33-year old receiver that is still incarcerated? Yet this is the subject of "Coin-Toss".

Other than Santana, our most productive receiver was a 27-year old rookie that came from the Intense Football League.

Not that that's bad, I see that as a hidden gem. The point is Plaxico Burress should not come here. Albert Haynesworth should leave here. We are not the Bengals, we are a 3-time Superbowl winning team.

Cut the fat(literally and metaphorically) and keep the gems.

Not to mention Burress was a New York Giant. I want Redskins players to have a sense of hate for division rivals, maybe that will put some pride back in this team.

HAIL.

I'm torn on the Plax issue. On the one hand he's obviously a moron...and an old one at that. No question he has skills and a prison stint can certainly help put things in perspective. He's had injuries that kept him from practicing damn near a whole year and we know that won't fly with Shanny. We need help at WR but if this guy is a way NOT to re sign Moss then no thanks. If he's a stop gap compliment to what we have then fine.

I dunno, we could turn things around more quickly than anybody has a right to expect. Doesn't mean the team is any better -- still holes everywhere in the roster -- but the addition of a passing attack worth the name would go a long way towards respectability.

You look at a team like the Bears this past season -- no way they should have been anywhere near the NFC title game. And yet there they were. Now they're staring at a more difficult schedule and a good chance for a big step backwards.

That could happen here.

Agreed, Samson. And we beat both the Pack and Da Bears (and the Jets in preseason, FWIW)..The Landry injury had a more devastating impact on the defense than we knew..We lost our defensive quarterback and no one filled the hole..A New Orleans-big play-type defense thrives with a dude like him, fails without...But, we still need a solid free safety, the image of DeSean burning Laron PLAY ONE in that Monday Night debacle is permanently seared into my tormented soul..

We may not have a Super Bowl Empire imminent, but we sh*t-sure could be a Cindarella..

You know, football is a funny thing. A year playing together and some chemistry could evolve out of another offseason. This team could be leaps and bounds better. We had a lot of close games. One more year of experience for a young kicker. A couple more good guys on offense and defense and a year of gelling plus an easier schedule could make a world of difference. Of course it may change nothing but odds are we get better...if we even have a damn season.

We sure did have a lot of close games. In fact, just 13 carefully distributed points and a ref who might have swallowed his whistle on a final play and we could have been ... 0-16.

3 OT wins, a catchable pass dropped by philly in the end zone, a penalty that nullified a TD on the last play vs dallas and Cutler's boneheaded play were all that stood between us and a winless season.

Sure, and there are as many holes in the roster as there were going into last season. But if we noticed anything about the NFL of late, it's that teams can make fast turnarounds. Either way.

The waitress says the incident happened at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday. She filed the police report at 5:15 a.m., about four hours later.

And the skilled lawyer will ask, "If you were so injured as to call the police, why wait almost 5 hours?"

Posted by: gimmesummoe | February 14, 2011 8:29 PM

What would have been the appropriate response time? I totally get that line of thinking if she waited a day or two, but relatively speaking "almost 5 hours" IS right away. I've called the cops early in the morning before...calling before 5am is usually met with some type of uncomfortable response or the sense that "Hey jerk, you're interrupting my online poker time". I don't see anything suspicious about her response time at all.

Besides...who are we talking about here? Would it REALLY be out of character for a guy who stomped on a guy's face, paralyzed another man in a reckless driving accident, and refused to hold up his end of the bargain on a multi-million dollar contract to make a boob grab on a waitress? Hell, we should be so lucky he didn't rip her leg off and eat it like a drumstick...

Gotta love this line of thinking...by that same logic, the Packers should have been undefeated because all their losses were close.

I'm far from a Parcells fan, but dude has one of the best truisms in all of sports: "you are what your record says you are". EVERY team can sit around and nitpick what could/would/should have been a loss or a win, but at the end of the day your record is your record.

Acting like we were any better or any worse than 6-10 is misguided at best.

Far be it from me to suggest that offical, factual accounts of an incident never vary from what is reported in a newspaper or on television.

However, the original story mentions that security videotape from the incident showed that Banks was not at fault.

Yes, media truth and actual truth do vary at some times, but usually not this much.

You seem to be in a hurry.

Albert Haynesworth: Us azzholes usually are.

What happened to you this past season?

Albert Haynesworth: The redskins wanted me to earn their money and I wasn't feeling it.

How's the paternity issue working out?

Albert Hanyesworth: I hope my son doesn't become like me as I don't need the competition.

The road rage thingy is kinda embarassing.

Albert Haynesworth: True, 'cuz I usually nut up in a strip club.

Speaking of nutting up, what happened with the waitress?

Albert Haynesworth: I grazed her boob, she wants to graze my bank account.

You do know at some point you're going to have to explain your behavior to Roger Goodell, don't you?

Albert Haynesworth: I'll tell him that his problem is not my problem.

Don't you want to be an NFL player in good standing?

Albert Haynesworth: Why would I want to do that when I've already got money stacks taller than Dan Snyder?

What about being a person of good standing and character who is the best example for the young people of our community?

Albert Haynesworth: My eyes are glazing over on that one.

Before you go, do you have anything of value to say?

Albert Haynesworth: Yeah, I'm in courtrooms more that Judge Judy.

Well, with that, I guess you have to go do more of what you've already done.

Albert Haynesworth: Yeah, and I'm in a hurry to get nowhere fast.

I think it's obvious Bank's wound is more than superficial, I hope he recovers fully, he was about the only exciting thing about the Redskins last year. He needs to get a little bar, big flat screen, music, video games etc. he and the fellas can call up the girls and hang at the crib, nothing good is going on outside at 3:am on a Sat night..... remember the song,

As for Banks' injury, I wouldn't read too much into them keeping him another night. These guys don't have the same health plan you or I have. All it would have taken was a little spike in his temperature and they would have kept him.

As for hanging out on a Saturday night, you have to remember this is a very young man with raging hormones and a fat wallet. The right thing to do would be to stay home, work on putting on those pounds, and go to bed early, but we both know that isn't going to happen. I think the Redskins' organization needs to take a more active role in educating its players and going the distance to protect them. From apurely financial perspective, these players are huge investments and it would be prudent to protect them. From a human interest perspective, these are guys who work hard for the team, are friends and should be protected.

Residents of hell...get your coats here:

Strahan could be a candidate to replace Regis
Posted by Mike Florio on February 15, 2011, 7:12 AM EST

As Regis Philbin moves closer to retirement, an unlikely name has emerged as a potential replacement.

Michael Strahan.

Strahan’s close friend, Rich “Big Daddy” Salgado of Coastal Advisors, posted a message on Twitter over the weekend claiming that Strahan is a candidate. If Strahan truly is a candidate, Salgado would know.

Salgado’s tweet was “re-tweeted” by Bob Glauber of Newsday, but the news has not crept into the mainstream, yet.

Strahan retired from the NFL after the 2007 season, and he has since worked for FOX NFL Sunday. He also starred in a short-lived sitcom. (The failure of FOX’s Brothers had far less to do with Strahan’s acting than with the quality of the writing.)

It’s unknown whether Strahan would continue to work for FOX during the football season, and whether Jay Glazer would appear on the show promoting a coffee table workout book about working out with coffee tables.

The guys with serious NFL money build clubs into their homes and party likewise.

I don't a player has to feel 'locked' in because of celebrity, but choose spots that are more upscale and secure than where BB went.

Being famous also sucks, 'cuz if BB was just a practice squad player, we wouldn't be chatting about the attack he suffered.

These guys should be allowed to live their lives and enjoy themselves so long as they do so within the confines of the law and in a way that doesn't embarrass the Redskins organization. Let's come correct: the police will determine that Mr. Haynesworth 'battered' the waitress as 'sexual assault' is a crime with a higher standard of proof.

The waitress is simply trying to get paid.

She would done well to let him 'feel' more than her boob, and try to collect evidence or a bruise to jack up what money she hopes to claim.

And AH should understand her grimy, low life motivations as he's perpetuated the same on Dan Snyder for the past 2-3 years.

I would think if Banks were to go out anywhere, the last thing anyone would suspect is that he's a professional athlete.

As Matt Millen said when commenting on Banks' size compared to other players on the field, "He looks like my son."

There are big, athletic dudes everywhere and when I see a big, huge guy in public, my first thought is NOT that they must be a pro athlete. What calls attention to these athletes is...well....these athletes.

Whether they are making it rain, actually introducing themselves as players or in the case of the senior doosh bag Desmond Howard, actually sending in some flunkie to announce his entrance...the lesser known athletes aren't targets until they make themselves one.

I'm married to a former state's attorney: again, sexual battery under the law has a higher standard than simple assault.

For example: without a bruise or stain or any physical evidence, how does the state substantiate the victim's claim in court?

She can say he rubbed her entire breast, he can say he pushed the credit card deep into her shirt pocket to make sure it wasn't dropped to the floor.

Where's the sexual assault in that?

Who witnessed the assault?

What marks or signs of undone stress are on her person as a result of the alleged assault?

Did she go to a hospital and have a medical person complete a sexual assault kit?

Again: sexual assault has a higher standard than he-said, she-said.

Let's see what comes out of the state's attorney's office.

Moe, I don't know the ins and outs of the law in VA, but "sexual assault" isn't just limited to rape or crimes of a hostile nature in most cases. Whether her allegations carry weight or not is moot for the purposes of this discussion...bottom line is AH wasn't conducting himself in an appropriate manner and he got called on it. I don't see how he could be viewed as the victim or anything less than culpable...

If you're an NFL GM in the market for a physically gifted, malcontent, one-trick pony of a defensive tackle...is an accelerated pace of run-ins with the law (both criminal and civil) the straw that breaks the camel's back of you even considering parting with a draft pick for him? If the answer has become "almost certainly"...isn't it time Dan, Bruce, and Mike give up their hopes of re-claiming whatever money they think Albert has put back on the table, put down the hammer they keep hitting their thumb with, and excise this tumor once and for all? What could possibly be left in it for them at this point? If a piece of the $36 mil is the goal...does him being listed on the roster help them collect it?

Report: Brandon Banks Instigated Fight That Led to Stabbing
by Kevin Ewoldt

Security cameras outside Club Park seem to reveal that Banks and his friend started the fight - supposedly making fun of a guy for wearing all white in the winter. Interestingly, Banks is still in the hospital and his injuries are worse than originally reported. Banks is expected to be released today (Tuesday), but it's been 3 days so far:

Tape of the incident, taken by surveillance cameras, shows Banks and Nixon starting the fight with Jason Shorter, who is accused of stabbing both men outside The Park at 14th nightclub. According to Channel 4, when police arrived, Banks showed them his wounds and identified Shorter as the assailant. The video reportedly shows Nixon throwing a punch after Shorter allegedly pulled a knife from his pocket. [WaPost]

Banks is young, adjusting to his new found fame, and got caught in a bad situation. The timing couldn't be worse with all this Haynesworth drama and as a fan, I'm beyond sick of this crap. Nothing is more frustrating then the combination of losing and off-field drama. Joe Gibbs does not approve.

Posted by: beep-beep | February 15, 2011 9:15 AM

That depends on whether you think PR is important.

Every time he f*cks up it's "Washington Redskins DT Albert Haynesworth". If that's "free agent DT" at the beginning, it's not our problem anymore.

And what upside are you seeing? He's killing what little trade value he's got left and he's a guy with a well-earned rep for playing when he wants to play. If there's upside in getting a ring pop in exchange for a failed $41 million investment, then we've REALLY hit rock bottom...

I dont see how this negatively impacts the redksins as an NFL team. Is the organization in trouble, are we going to have a more difficult time signing players or coaches because of this? I dont really see how this negatively effects us other then looking like business as usual in Ashburn.

Yeah, I don't quite see how it's a good idea to flush 31 million dollars down the drain to improve PR for a team that is:

Owned by the most reviled person in the NFL

The center of the racist mascot debate

Hasn't won anything since hair bands were cool

Is currently suing a small time newspaper because our owner is a butthurt pansy

At this point who gives a crap about PR. Let AH92 get his 4 game susupension. He still has a very cap freindly contract with 3 years left on it. He actually has some decent trade value. If no one wants to trade for him this year then just keep him. If you need his roster spot then just make sure he suffers a "hamstring injury" in training camp and put him on IR.

Posted by: PAskinsfan17 | February 15, 2011 9:44 AM | Report abuse

...bottom line is AH wasn't conducting himself in an appropriate manner and he got called on it.

It must be so cold up North that twisting the truth is the only way to stay warm.

I'm not defending Albert Haynesworth.

But I will point out that the crux of the waitress's story is that she seemed to okay his putting the credit card into her breast pocket.

Is that consent in the eyes of the law of Virgina?

Did she okay his 'touching' her person, thus vitiating her claims of assault?

And who witnessed the assault?

And did she go to a hospital where a medical professional could judge the extent of the assault?

And are there bruises, marks, stains, sores as the result of the alleged 'sexual assault'?

Just touching someone without their consent is 'simple battery' as 'sexual assault' has a much higher standard under the law in most states.

That's the reason why shaking hands with a stranger doesn't result in jail time.

And if she okayed his putting the credit card into her breast pocket, she'd be hard-pressed to say she was assaulted in a courtroom.

She'll get a check--and that's all she wants.

When I was 22 it was: "I could slip and die in the bathtub, so why shouldn't I race motorcycles on the beltway?" The point is not that you can die anywhere, it's that if you avoid trouble areas and stupidity you greatly reduce the chances of getting hurt or killed.

Those using the Sean Taylor analogy are maybe forgetting that he invited those thugs to party at his house a few days before they killed him. Not that he asked for it, he didn't, just that his dumb decisions helped lead to a really bad situation.

Early on in my professional career I would really get off on going commando in a nice suit. Then go to happy hour somewhere on K St. or Georgetown and hold my cocktail up as if I am navigating through a narrow path of bodies and being careful to 'slide by' a nice looking woman and looking to see if she "noticed", if you catch my drift. I can vividly remember at least two who looked back and smiled, knowingly.

Essentially, the point is that contact, done right and done in a discreet manner is way more fun than copping a feel like some 5th grader who has no sophistication whatsoever.

Haynesworth is the latter.

Riggins predicted on his radio show yesterday that Banks will never regain the explosive promise that was so evident when first given a chance last season. A proverbial "flash in the pan". Not because of the stabbing, but because of his size and the fact that he never seemed the same after his injury last season. It's only a gut feeling, but Riggins has certainly observed a lot of talented players and the arcs of their careers. His "gut feeling" is more of an educated estimate. I hated to hear it, but after thinking about it, I bet Danny Smith and Shanahan have considered the possibility too.

Consent to putting the credit card in the pocket is not consent to caress her boob. Same concept as when a woman can say no to sex right up until the actual moment of action. Consent to one type of touching isn't conset to further touching. Big key to the case will be exactly what she consented to. Could end up as a he said-she said case, which might not be enough to obtain a conviction under the "beyond a reasonable doubt standard", although it might be enough for her to get paid in civil court under the lower evidentiary standards there, if she sues him (which she will, 'cause she wants to get paid, like ya'll have already said).

This kind of sexual assault case doesn't really lend itself to the standard medical sexual assault exam, as she hasn't really alleged that kind of harm. Seems to me this case will come down to what the witnesses can attest happened.

If that's your line of thinking, Shannahan is a pathological liar, Haynesworth is a sexual deviant, McNabb is passive aggressive, Portis is retarded and you're a paranoid schizophrenic.

My point is that I think it's going to go down in the same fashion: he's going to get charged with some type of felony sexual assault, she's going to sue him, he'll settle the civil suit, and she will no longer be interested in pursuing the criminal charge. Same as what happened with Kobe.

Certainly, the allegations and facts in Kobe's case were much different and much more serious.

Although, being a Laker die-hard, I was willing to give Kobe the benefit of the doubt as long as he still put in 25 - 35 pts a game....

bradon,
Well considering how we lost a lot of games they were running on us a lot. Im not sure our run D is that terrible. Im far more worried about our pass rush.
Andits not like AAH wasnt taking up blocker he took up a G and a LT instead of a C and a G.
I just feel that we could get the same value from a no name. Rogers is done. When your 380 and the Brows are cutting you...oh never mind we are definitely getting this guy. This has Snyders finger prints all over it. Maake Kemoeatu isnt much worse then this dude, and ive been pronouncing his name since he was a panther.

Jordan could be solid too.

I think the combine will have a great effect on who goes where.

Jordan or kerrigan will be good because we can move them around the field

This new FO values versatility pretty highly id say.

Remember haslett took carriker first round n he was knlwn as the gym rat workoout warrior type

My dry sense of humor. A convicted rapist, which he isn't, would have no place on my beloved Lakers. Although do think that everyone should get the benefit of the doubt until convicted, including Kobe and AH.

I recall that Kobe almost always played amazingly well on the days where he had a hearing in the morning and took the Laker's plane back to LA to play that evening, so I was very happy about that.

I don't recall Carriker having a reputation as a gym rat or workout warrior, but rather just fast and powerful on the field.

http://hsgeorgia.scout.com/a.z?s=37&p=9&c=2&cid=805376&nid=2404116&fhn=1

From one of those senior games:

Defensively, Nebraska defensive end Adam Carriker continues to prove his is in a different tier of talent than his opposition and has beaten all comers handily. Carriker made a nifty play forcing a fumble in 11-on-11 drills that Utah cornerback Eric Weddle made an athletic play to recover. In drills, Carriker was loudly encouraged by North head coach Jon Gruden to really go after the simulated QB bag, Carriker responded by hitting the bag so hard that the QB's; (actually just a pad) flew right off.

Brandon,
You pick up Rogers and draft a NT at that point we have 3 nose tackles on our team. That seems a bit much. Keep in mind Kemo was coming of an IR year, i dont think he is a perminent fix but I do think he is a better/cheaper/less fat fit then Rogers. In 15 games Rogers had 17 tackles last year. Again when youve gone from the Lions to being cut by the Browns your best days are behind you.

Sween, im with you I remember that Carricker was just freakish for his height, size, and speed. He had a crazy wing span, never really heard much of his workout habits. Now velocORAKPO, he was a gym rat. The coaches at Texas literally had to tell him to tone it down.

Ya I agree a second round pic shoukd be able to step in right away.

I just think well have a d line rotation. Hopefully it wont be as bad as laat yr when we had two completely different groupings. We put our run stop package n teams audible to pass n vice versa. I think a big NT to plug up the middle and a pass rusher who can stuff the run n maybe cover the flats would go a long way for us.

With a true 2 gapping NT and the threat of pressure from someone besides orakpo I think we could really gwt after a passer.

Gotta get the attention of the opposing o line off Rak, n then maybe he can get some more one on ones. Of coirse we could use the refs attention on him n maybe well get some of those never called holding penalties

After the way Kemo played last year, I can't believe people are talking about keeping him. The dude got absolutely no push last year at all. He is either still injured, in which there is something very wrong with that, or he is fully healthy and won't improve anymore, in which case he should be cut anyway.

I compare him to Jamal Brown, which both had devestating injuries and sat out a year. Both started off shaky at the beginning of the year, but as the year went on Brown started improving and showed that the hip was getting better. Kemo looked slow and weak.

Bryant is not the answer, but I wouldn't mind a 2 or 3 man rotation with him, maybe Rogers, and a high to mid round draft pick.

I'm not the leader of the Rogers Fan Club, but I still think we should give him a chance. We don't know what he'll do in this defense, but we DO know what Kemo can do, and it wasn't very good.

The only way I see Kemo clogging running lanes is if he just lays his fat ass down on the ground when the ball is snapped, kinda like in foriegn countries when there is a cow in the road, you're not gonna run over it, so you try to go around it. The dude needs to go back to Hawaii and suck down some pineapples and enjoy retirement!

Ok let me put it this way Shaun Rogers was the weak link of a D on a team that had less wins then us. He put up worse tackling stats then a player we have who we are going to cut. Rogers himslef was cut by an inferior team. Yet you still think its a good idea to take a look at him. While most likely overpaying him.
We never learn. Grass is always greener someones trash is our treasure. But it never pans out. This dude will just be another in the line. And trust me peeps up here will be bashing him left and right. One of the few dudes in the league fatter and slower then Ahay but yeah were in the market for that.

Again im not advocating Maake just comparing him as a run stopper to Shaun, Maake was better last year, despite coming of a freakin IR year. Rogers has zero upside would be nothing but a stop gap. What ever happened to getting younger, peeps always say that then a name gets tossed out an were clamoring for Shaun Rogers and Plexicos. WTF???

Posted by: Stu27 | February 15, 2011 12:37 PM | Report abuse

Rogers started one game, make started most of ours.

Rogers has more skill n talent than make even if kemo got more tackles. He had many more oppurtunities.

Thats like saying brandon banks is better than devin thomas. Solely based on the fact that brandon is still with us.

Even if he is a weak link hes better than kemo as one cant get any worse. Rogers has atleast proven that he can own people, I sdont think kemo has it in him to dominate anyone

Think of all the woooood in Danny's pants when Cam is intro'ed and the 3 SB trophs AND Cam's Heisman are sitting in a neat row in front of Cam on the podium. 4th, I seem to be Mr. Optimism on here, and I still don't see us getting a 2nd rounder for an combination of those players. We MAYBE get a 3rd for McNabb, but that's if there is a couple desperate teams and one outbids the other. We'll get a 4th for Haynie and probably a 5th for Carter, which is ashame cause he's probably worth more than that to a 4-3 team.

Fitzpatrick has failure written all over him, I think we should pass on him anyway. Build up the defense and Oline and deal with the QB situation next year.

You do realize that Rogers wasn't a starter for most/if not all of last year, while Maake was the starter here in DC. Therefore Maake had more opportunity to make tackles than Rogers. At the end of the day, Rogers would be replacing Haynesworth if he is signed. So really there's not much of an apples to apples comparison in your statment above.

Hilarious...

So a waitress tells Albert to stick his credit card between her titties, Albert feels up a tit, and people are knocking the guy like he donkey punched the waitress -- right after he finished sodomizing her right there on the table in front of everyone to see. Then pulled out the “meatus” and gave the joint a golden shower. But not after he ate someone’s complimentary peanuts as he was walking out.

Yeah typical anti-Albert biased point-of-view from the haters. As always, given the lone fact that its Haynesworth related it's impossible for them to see a damn thing with any sort of objection whatsoever.

It may have been a little sleaze-baggish to ask "Can I stick my credit card between your tits?” But it's not like he forced himself on her, so let’s not make Albert out to look like some sort of sexual predator, and the waitress to look like some rape victim here who was just doing her job to pay for school tuition while supporting her 3-year old boy.

smmfh...

If she was that offended, she wouldn't have let him put his hands anywhere near her breasts in the first place. But yeah, because it's Haynesworth lets give the sorry bastard the chair for feeling up a tit after practically receiving an invite.

I think we'd have to redo McNabb's contract before we could trade him. If he wouldn't let us then we'd either have to keep him on the bench and pay him 16 million or release him. I think he'll most likely get released so he can choose his next team. He knows we won't pay him 16 million to ride the pine. He can go to Minnesota and throw bombs to Sidney Rice and hand it off to all day Ap.

Haynesworth is probably the only one of the three that still has trade value. I think we can get a 3rd rounder for him from a 4-3 team like Detroit.

Carter is able to play but only as a rush end in a 4-3 with a decent supporting cast. We won't get anything for him though. I think his contract is either voided or will void soon. He'll sign with someone else as a rotational guy.

-------------------------------------------
I don't know if he is done, but Kemo definitely didn't live up to his advance billing last year. He just couldn't seem to push off. I think he was only signed to a one year contract and doubt if the Redskins ask him back. Bryant is more of a clogger and won't be doing much to collapse the pocket, but I like him in a rotation. Just say no to S. Rodgers. Injury prone, fat, lazy: take your pick of the adjective, but just say no. Personally, I think they can get another clogger as a UFA. I am not sure if this kid out of Hampton will get drafted, but that is the kind of player that they could plug into the rotation. Having said that, they also need an earth mover and they are only going to get that kind of player high in the draft.

Your comparison between Brown and Kemo is interesting because I don't think Brown made it all of the way back from injury, either. He played much better late in the season, but I noticed him kind of rotating the hip late in some games. I don't think it is a given that the Redskins get him back. It would be nice, but I wouldn't take it for granted.

Red, the dude has a list of bad decisions a mile long and you are defending him? Dude does something wrong once and you think maybe he could have been wrongfully accused. Dude does something wrong twice and you think, well maybe he just isn't given the benefit of the doubt. But when the dude has stomped a player's throat, driven recklessly and put another human being in a wheel chair, knocked up a stripper, been a road rager, etc. my first inclination is to say the dude is scum of the earth and deserves all the hell he has raised. If you, I or anyone else grabbed a woman's breast in a similar situation we'd be wrong, too. It doesn't matter that the woman may be gold digging and she would have probably slapped one of us and that would have been the end of it. The fact of the manner is it was wrong. On top of his guilt, I'll also lay on some spite for him being so stupid to do something like that in light of recent events. Not only is he scum of the Earth, he's also stupid.

Posted by: RedSkinHead | February 15, 2011 1:13 PM | Report abuse

Agreed, he didn't completely make it back from that hip surgery but he was close. I think with a full offseason of getting that hip in shape he should be a lot more fresh and ready to take on those speed rushers that gave him problems last year.

I don't really see us passing up on him and letting him get to Free Agency. Here's another comparison, Brown and McNabb. Neither were exactly what we expected in the trades, but with McNabb there isn't room for improvement and we can get something out of him in a trade, and even though we look like idiots, the important thing would be to cut bait and move on. Brown had a better year and could improve and grow more. I don't see him being a one year rental. If we do get rid of him what are our options at RT?

I concur. I also think J Brown better play latter in in the year could be him recovering from injury but also he became more comfortable with his switch to the right side. The dude was lining up in a LT stance in training camp. He came a long way.

So, let a team trade for him with stout DLineman in their 4-3....i don't care...but the dude has value when put in the proper position.

And Haynesworth really didn't play this year, but once they put AC's hand in the ground permantly (for the most part), his production dramtically improved. He's still a starter in this league w/o any off the field issues.......

4th and others, Carter's contract voids and he becomes UFA if Skins try to trade him, i.e., he is not tradeable. We can cut him, re-structure him, or get him to waive his contract clause about no trades, but right now, he has hand (assuming there is a football season next year).

Brown could be the answer - I'm not saying he couldn't be. I am just saying there is a certain "buyer beware" risk there. The dude is going to want big bucks. He can play left tackle and is going to be asking for left tackle money. I am just saying when you consider the gimpy hip, is he worth the money? Ryan Harris played for Shanny and is a younger, healthier, cheaper option. His skills aren't where Brown's skills were in New Orleans, but I think he's about equal to where Brown was last year.

Agree on Carter. They have to rework the contract to trade him, but I think he will be motivated to go to a team that runs the 4-3, and will be willing to work for a trade. I could envision several scenarios where the Redskins get a little something in trade.

Maybe the idea would be to get Haynesworth's and Carter's agents together, tell them the Skins want to trade them as a "package" (enclosing highlight film from 2009 of how well they do together), have them shop their 4-3 defense of choice, get Carter to re-work his contract to allow the trade, allow them both to pre-negotiate their new contracts, and pick up a second round pick in the process (assuming there is a CBA by March 4th).

Son of Stan - if you put any player out of position they're going to play worse, if not totally suck. You put a 4-3 DE into an OLB which had already been tried before and failed, and expect good results. You're a fool. Other teams can look at his body of work and say he is a very, very good 4-3 DE. Not top tier, but certaintly worth a mid round pick, especially since he has no off the field issues and therefore could coach up any young 4-3 DE.

My other free agent signing priorities include Santana Moss and Carlos Rogers, then maybe D'Qwell Jackson (I'm assuming that LaMarr Woodley will be tagged very soon ... and hope the Browns don't tag Jackson).

Harvey Dahl would be my third non-roster UFA choice ... and within the budget of three signings ... WR, ILB, and OG. Then draft the OLB and NT. The other DE spot (Golsten's/Holliday's) will have to wait for another year. Free safety will have to rise from the existing roster dust or street free agency. Maybe put Lorenzo Alexander back on the line at DE. Hold our breath and hope for a low round diamond at RB.

I dunno.

Since the Fred Smoot "Love Boat" years, the vikes have steered clear of players with character issues.

Plus, the draft is awash with defensive linemen, so who burns a draft pick on a guy of questionable character when a young'n could be had.

Haynesworth has to be made to see the highway: otherwise, he really has no reason to grown the F up.

Bean-Greg, that works with me. If the Kurt Shanahan offense is supposed to be a passing offense, Skins need at least five (but preferably seven) reliable receivers to throw to in order to keep the ball spread around and receivers legs fresh. See the Packers or the Saints for two top flight stables of receivers.

It would be a good start to have Santana, Malcolm 1, Malcolm 2, Armstrong, and hopefully this Austin fella. I don't think Roydell Williams is our man anymore (though he had shown some promise when he was in Tennessee).

Couple things (just to be a dick.)
1) F Jim Zorn. He was a nice guy and I liked him personally but he sucked at coaching.
2)Hopefully this is a sign that the new blogger is done posting crap that doesn't pertain to the current or retired Washington Redskins. Zorn is not a Redskin and hasn't been for a little while now. I could give a sh!t less if he was picked up by the Chiefs or the Argonauts or the Powderpuff Power Rangers.

"Haynesworth is probably the only one of the three that still has trade value. I think we can get a 3rd rounder for him from a 4-3 team like Detroit."

That was last year..Albert is in an all-or-nothing deathmatch with the organization with a revenge that has no end in sight..He'll take his trade value down to nil just to get back at the team..

Maybe Danny is also waging war on us fans, for dissin' him so hard..That would explain the personnel decisions and ridiculous high prices..Get your tickets for "Dawn Of The Danny"..

But I think he's still getting paid as one.

Also, I had heard that part about M. Floyd being upstanding, etc. It seems like that type of attitude could go a long way to building a common vibe about actually winning games (rather than about getting paid to win games). The whole idea of a non-diva receiver just seems thrilling. Its one of the things I like about Santana Moss ... quiet excellence.

scampbell1975, I understand where you're coming from, but I just can't fully hate on Zorn.

Nobody should have to coach with Snyder and Vinny breathing down their back. Zorn was put in an untenable situation, and his 8-8 season STILL stands (tied) as the best non-Gibbs coached single season since Snyder/Vinny's rookie season. Spurrier, Marty, Shanny... none coached the Skins to a better mark. (OK, none coached them to a worse mark than what Zorn did last year, either... but that finally got Vinny outta here and makes Zorn a martyr to me.)

I think there is more to this Brandon Banks thing. His twitter account (bbanks16) is disabled and open. How do you go from a "superficial wound" to a three night stay? I hope this isn't one of those deals where he was on a cot and they confused him for a 72 year old white woman and then tried to remove his uterus.

Maybe somebody from the City Paper can swing by and check in on him.

This thing gets me nervous like the "nothing to see here" news about Sean Taylor (esp. because a femoral artery was an important one not to have opened). Literally, "superficial" means above or over the surface. That sounded like an incision (slice) or cut. If it was a stab (puncture), then it could be something much worse, like a collapsed lung. They said upper chest I thought.

Ravens designate Ngata their franchise player

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on February 15, 2011, 4:49 PM EST

Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata enjoyed a terrific 2010 campaign, with his third place finish in PFT’s Alan Page award surely the highlight.

Ngata’s 2011 is off to a solid start after the Ravens placed their franchise tag on him Tuesday.

“The tender allows us to secure Haloti as a Raven right now,” said Ravens G.M. Ozzie Newsome. “As we have said, our intention is to enter into a long-term contract with him. We want him to be a Raven.”

The Ravens ultimately signed previous franchise tag recipients Chris McAlister and Terrell Suggs to long-term deals. That’s what’s likely to happen with Ngata.

In the meantime, Ngata is slated to make more than $12 million in 2011. That’s more than $5 million than the tag number from last year.

While I agree with the overall sentiment, it wasn't Vinny or Danny that called back-to-back "Swinging Gate" plays or openly threw players under the bus to the media. I'm fairly confident that I'll never hear another NFL coach utter the words "I called the plays to work"....

As a HC, Zorn is a poor man's Gary Kubiak...which is to say, not very good. He's an average position coach in the NFL, nothing more.
