Brandon Banks underwent surgery during bye

By Jason Reid

In a major blow to the Redskins' return units, dynamic rookie returner Brandon Banks underwent knee surgery last week and could be sidelined two weeks, two people familiar with the situation said Sunday morning.

Banks, who ranks among the NFL leaders in kickoff and punt returns, apparently had the procedure late last week, according to the team sources. There were no complications and Banks is expected to begin the rehab process when the Redskins, who are in their bye week, return to work Monday at Redskins Park.

"Coach [Mike] Shanahan will address all questions after practice," said Tony Wyllie, Redskins senior vice president and team spokesman.

The Redskins do not expect Banks to play when they resume their schedule Nov. 15 against the Philadelphia Eagles, the sources said. If all goes well with Banks's rehab, however, he could return in time for the Week 11 game against the Tennessee Titans at LP Field.

Shanahan did not reveal Banks's injury while meeting with reporters Nov. 1 and 2 at the complex. Apparently, few in the organization were informed of the situation before the break began.

Playing without Banks for any time would be a significant loss for coordinator Danny Smith's return units. An undrafted rookie free agent from Kansas State, Banks was sensational in the first half.

In the first eight games, Banks ranked second in the league with 234 yards on punt returns and third with a 13.8-yard average. Banks' 27.3-yard average on kickoff returns ranks seventh in the NFL.

The Redskins wasted Banks's outstanding effort in the 37-25 loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 8. During the team's final game before the break, Banks averaged 35.5 yards on six kickoff returns, had a 96-yard touchdown and another long potential touchdown return nullified because of a penalty.

Running back Chad Simpson, who has been slowed recently because of a hamstring injury, is expected to fill Banks's role on kickoff returns. Simpson has an average of 29.5 yards on two returns for the Redskins this season. He has a 23.7-yard average in his career.

Nickel cornerback Phillip Buchanon, whom Banks supplanted as the primary punt returner earlier this season, probably would handle punts against the Eagles. Buchanon has three fair catches and only two returns for the Redskins, averaging 0.5 yards.

Noooooooooooooo!

Cut Galloway and bring up Austin. Let the kid return kicks/punts in Bank's absence.

Good solution, Diesel44. Losing Banks against the Beagles just reduced our chances of winning by 25%.

I agree 100%. Get Austin some game experience. Given Banks' size, injuries are going to be more of the norm for him.

Talk continues that McNabb can't figure out Shanahan's offense
Posted by Michael David Smith on November 7, 2010 11:05 AM ET

The Washington Redskins are off this week, but there's no reprieve from the constant discussion about why Mike Shanahan benched Donovan McNabb late in last week's loss to the Lions.

The latest talk comes from a report on ESPN on Sunday morning in which Chris Mortensen said that Shanahan and his son and offensive coordinator, Kyle Shanahan, have had to cut their playbook in half in order to pare it down enough for McNabb to learn it.

And it gets worse: Mortensen reports that even when McNabb is operating with the Cliff's Notes version of the playbook, he sometimes has trouble correctly calling the plays in the huddle.

At this point, with all these stories coming out about McNabb being unable to figure out the offense, it's hard not to get the feeling that there are folks within the Redskins organization who are making a concerted effort to make McNabb look bad. That's exactly what ESPN's Tom Jackson, who played in Denver for three seasons when Shanahan was a Broncos assistant, said after Mortensen's report.

"If you have a problem with your quarterback," Jackson said, "you call [him] in and you discuss that. This has now become so public that the quarterback is going to be completely embarrassed and it makes his job harder."

In Jackson's view, Shanahan and McNabb simply won't be able to work together going forward -- and Jackson thinks that's more Shanahan's fault than McNabb's.

"I always thought the job of a coach is to adjust your system to the guy who's quarterbacking your team," Jackson said. "This situation is irreconcilable."

It's become SOOO public huh? The only stuf I heard was 2 days in the day of and day following the benching. Everything else has been these so called journalists and their rumor mongering, Chris Mortensen and Jason Whitlock are the culprits and no one else. Mortensen said this and Mortensen said that. Let me ask you this, who in the Redskins organization do you think is telling Chris anything?

Terrible decision to pull McNabb but McNabb's play speaks for it's self.

Fact is McNabb should thank Shanahan for taking all the heat this week when we should be more focused on the terrible play of McNabb.

McNabb has eight weeks to earn a contract. Let's hope he elevates his play.

Okay, Tom. Mike cut the playbook down to "adjust the system to the guy who's quarterbacking." Now what? Cut it some more? What do you think McNabb's capable of? Eight plays? Guy can't manage a play book so you just draw them all on the back of his wrist?

.5 yards per punt return? Buchanon makes Randall El look good.

Buch still has to master the "catch, take two steps and fall down."

Posted by: NYPDee | November 7, 2010 12:25 PM | Report abuse

Hey idiot Redskin fans keep in mind Shanahan's record his last two years in Denver an also how he screwed around Jake Plummer. Look at 4-4 most fans should be happy an as a so called professional coach the way this Mcnabb issue has become public is so irresponible by Shhanahan an his son an if they honestly believe Rex Grossman makes this team better cause he has been in the offense then put his #$% in their an lets see whether knowing the plays or his athleticism propels this team to victories. More an more I am seeing a side of Shanahan that undermines this organization . First he and Haynesworth had issues, then he gets rid of Devin Thomas for reasons no one really understands now he has given away two draft picks to a division rival an the offense has wasted a year learning how to win with a competitior in Mcnabb.

This is complete and utter stupidity on the Shannahan's part, Donovan McNabb has led 23 game winning drives during his career in Philly what makes anyone think that he couldn't do it here? Exhibit A; a horrible offensive line, Exhibit B; terrible wide receivers sans Santanna Moss, Exhibit C the teams best RB and backfield blocker has been injured. The treatment Donovan has received from the Shannahan's has unprofessional and petty, there is no way McNabb comes back next year, man Jason Campbell's lovin this (LMAO!!).

Posted by: dargregmag | November 7, 2010 12:51 PM | Report abuse

Well these new tibbits certainly add some fuel to the fire surrounding DM5. Did we really get snookered by AR? I can't believe that Reid actually coached him up well enough to produce some really good years, and Shanahan can't manage the situation any better than it has.... This could open the door for Snyder to step back in the room!

Posted by: Spanglerg | November 7, 2010 12:52 PM | Report abuse

Can this bye week get any worse? Oh wait! Yes it can!

I'm still upset over Shanahan's handling of the McNabb situation, but here is my view on the argument that Shanahan only had success because of Elway:

We need to quell once and for all this idea that's constantly tossed around: Shanahan is only had success because of John Elway.
Watching PTI yesterday, it says a lot about the degradation of Michael Wilbon's sports intelligence when he even espouses this idea.

In fact, let's go down the list of coaches with multiple Super Bowl wins and see who their starting QBs were:

Don Shula: Bob Griese (HoF)
Tom Landry: Roger Staubach (HoF)
Chuck Noll: Terry Bradshaw (HoF)
Joe: Theismann, Williams, Rypien
Bill Belichick: Tom Brady (future HoF)
Bill Walsh: Joe Montana (HoF)
Bill Parcells: Phil Simms, Jeff Hostetler
Vince Lombardi: Bart Starr (HoF)
Tom Flores: Jim Plunkett
Jimmy Johnson: Troy Aikman (HoF)
George Seifert: Montana, Steve Young (HoF)
Mike Shanahan: John Elway (HoF)

That's 12 coaches winning a total of 29 Super Bowls with 15 QBs, of which 9 are in the HoF. Among those coaches, only three won without HoF quarterbacks (for a total of seven Super Bowls). Are you telling me the remaining nine derived their success only because they had HoF QBs?

You will rarely have success with a sub-par QB like Trent Dilfer (a guy who came in as a backup in Week 8 and threw as many INTs as TDs). Dan Reeves went to 3 title games with Elway and never won, and that is one of the arguments that is keeping him from enshrinement. Elway became much more efficient under Shanahan. If we divide his career into quarters, Elway's TD-INT ratio essentially doubles under Shanahan's tenure:

Seasons 1-4: 66/65, 1.02
" 5-8: 69/63, 1.10
" 9-12: 64/49, 1.31
" 13-16: 101/49, 2.06

Success rarely comes without a good QB, and good QBs rarely win without a good coach.

Why do so many people think DMac will jump ship for Minny or Zona? He's not going to have his choice. Any coach that watches tape will see that he is aging and inconsistent. Why spend big money on that? Unless DM sets it on fire in the second half, he is going to have to take what the Skins offer him. Where's his leverage?

I actually think Shanny is playing this thing well. If DM improves it gets us to the playoffs. If not, they consider resigning him to a short and reasonable contract as a stopgap.

Why bash Campbell when you can just bash McNabb?

Posted by: RomoLongballs | November 7, 2010 10:05 AM
------------------------------------------
Because I'm not with the "lynch McNabb" crowd. I see a guy who is a leader and makes plays when there is nothing there. Yes, he's not executed the game plan very well, but I still see leadership qualities that most quarterbacks don't have. When people compare Campbell to McNabb, they choose to ignore that kind of thing. Last year, the more vocal players made it known they really didn't have Campbell's back. When Shanahan benched McNabb, I saw the players rally around him. That's the difference and I think that difference wins games for a team.

Posted by: RedSkinHead | November 7, 2010 10:09 AM | Report abuse

In this we most def agree, and I supported JC when he was here. I'm hoping for a similar outcome to the AH struggle; Shanny eases up on the footwork hangup and starts calling plays to take the pressure off the line a bit more effectively.

Posted by: RomoLongballs | November 7, 2010 1:36 PM | Report abuse

That list also reveals coach/QB stability.

But it is noteworthy to me that Shanahan won back to back SBs with Elway and an awesome run game, but won exactly 1 playoff game in the decade following his retirement.

A decade is a large enough sample size to judge a coach, and Shanahan was basically an amped-up Norv Turner (record wise) after Elway retired.

Speaking of lazy..

Hopefully McNabb brought his abbreviated playbook with him to Arizona for the bye week and has worked on his conditioning and mixed in a few salads instead of cheese steaks.

Some would blame Rabach for stepping on McNabb's feet a couple of times last Sunday, but that would be incorrect. McNabb needs to get out from center faster. If Peyton Manning has the "happy feet" nickname then McNabb needs the "Lazy feet" label.

In my visionary dream, it was a short dude, either Banks or Austin, that made the Pro Bowl...But definitely Trent Williams...

Re:McNabb, It's Basic Astrophysics 101, Kyle...When the '72 Kilmer/Jurgensen 'Skins went to the Super Bowl, they were sacked a total of like, 9 times over 14 games..Kilmer and Jurgensen!!! They got CONTINENTS that move faster than those dudes did!! We coulda put Stephen Hawking back there , and he woulda had all the time in the UINVERSE!!! If McNabb had that kinda protection, his Pro-Bowl All-Star would shine brightly, leading the Skins to the World Championship..As it now stands, defenses break through, Gravity wins, and the Star collapses into a black hole, as does the entire team...Astrophysics 101...

frak, you could argue that McNabb's inability to get the ball out quickly makes him use his feet to get out of trouble.

Rabach sucks but McNabb needs to get off from center faster. It's that simple.

Skins are 4-4 from a combination of DHall (2 wins), Alex Barron, Jason Avant, Mason Crosby, & Jay Cutler.

McNabb has made some plays with his feet but they are 4-4 in spite of him.

Cowboys go 10+ yrs without a playoff win.

Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas retire. Buffalo ZERO playoff wins in 10+ years.

Steve Young retires. 49'ers 1 playoff win in the last 10 years.

You may not like it but it's not that easy to win in the NFL and your arguement is weak.

The same thing that happened to JC-17 is now happening to DM-5, a horrible offensive line made even worse by Shannahan's stubborn refusal to put Derrick Dockery back in the line up when it's obvious that Kory Whiff is not the answer at guard and a porus set of wideouts with the exception of Moss, an ego driven head coach who had the gall to embarrass his starting QB during the final minutes of a winnable game by benching him and possibly costing the "team" a chance at a win and then subsequently rubbing salt in the wound by openly questioning McNabb's intelligence and his conditioning this past week, if any of you saw CBS's The NFL Today, host James Brown took Shannahan to task over the McNabb benching, like i've been saying all week Shannahan is an overated head coach and a backstabber to boot if i'm Dan Synder i'm looking long and hard at this father and son coaching tandem and how a supposed veteran head coach has totally mishandled this situation.

Shanahan is a proven coach who made a bad decision...

McNabb is a borderline HOF QB who is not playing well right now.

For those of you who are remotely suggesting that Shanahan not be here next year, you're smoking "love boat".

To me, all the pressure is on McNabb now. If he plays poorly...maybe Shanahan was right...

If he plays well, we win, and Shanahan looks like a genius with his unorthodox motivation of Mc Nabb.

I know it's a dilemma most teams would kill for, but if Vick keeps playing well what does A. Reid do next spring? No one can afford to pay two starting qb's. Vick will get paid by somebody. If it's the Eagles where does that leave Kolb?

Don't say DC. We don't have the draft picks to get him. And I definitely don't want the dog killer in a Skins uniform, even though he's an amazing talent.

For those of you Campbell backers, I've just got one thing to ask of you: let's talk tomorrow after the Raiders play the Chiefs. Remember, Campbell had his good games with the Redskins, too. He just couldn't string together enough good performances to be considered high on anyone's list. You have to look no farther than Cable agonizing over playing Campbell or Gradkowksi to realize even the coaching staff for the Raiders realizes that the last two games have been an anomaly for Campbell.

JFK-

Much like a tipped pass for an INT the fumble is credited to JC. Either way, JC lead them to the tie with less than 2 mins left and then lead them to the win in OT.

I was a huge fan of Jacoby Ford from Clemson and he was the difference today. Who did we take in the 4th RD..Perry the platypus

Posted by: Diesel44 | November 7, 2010 8:05 PM | Report abuse

JC won; he made a great throw in OT to set up the game winning FG. A lot of his poor numbers in the first half were receiver drops and a non-PI call.

From what I've seen in this game - none of the Raiders receivers give up on the ball, and all try to make a play and are capable of it, unlike ours. There have been a bunch of spectacular catches in this game by Raiders receivers that ours wouldn't come close to bringing in.

Posted by: JesusFreakKaren | November 7, 2010 8:05 PM | Report abuse

JC and the Raiders have a better record than us. I'd like JC back and I'd like our 2 picks we used on McNabb back as well. That'd be great.

OK, so, looks like Campbell did it. You know, the thing many said he was INCAPABLE of here in D.C.

Chalk up a 4th Quarter comeback drive. Add an overtime victory drive to it.

And I only watched the 4th Quarter and overtime and saw 3 very catchable balls dropped by Raiders receivers, including an EASY TD.

Jason's cardio looked good indeed.

And for those who say that the only reason Campbell looks good is because of the team around him, how F'ing sad is THAT? We're talking about the Raiders. Al Davis > Mike Shanahan?

Eagles, Titans, Vikings, Bucs... we are SCREWED. Our D can only do so much, the offense is just way too behind to be able to do anything in the second half. This day in the NFL saddened me. When Cleveland can beat NE and NO with Colt Mccoy as their QB, the Raiders can win three in a row. It's an understatement to say this day in the NFL sucked.

People once again want to crown the Eagles. They did it before week 4 and they are doing it now. Andy Reid is a stud off of a bye week and they played at home.

Vick doesn't make it thru the game (called by me in week 4) and we win a squeaker as Kolb is picked off by DHall to seal the win. 17-14.

SWEPT PHILLY?!?!

What Zorn regime were YOU watching and in WHAT universe?

I seem to remember Philly embarrassing the entire Metro area in a Monday night game that featured the Bingo Caller Sherman to the Other Sherman to the Zorn Triumverate of ineptitude triangle.

We shouldn't beat Philly. I hope we do, but if it happens, it will make absolutely no sense.

Like Cleveland beating the Pats. It COULD happen, but it's not really an indication of a power shift.

Posted by: Thinker_ | November 7, 2010 8:37 PM | Report abuse

First, I'm tired of Redskins' games being played by coaches, management, and the owner. I bought into this new "regime" hoping that they'd be different and handle players with some modicum of professional conduct. It was obvious that the Albert Haynesworth situation was a ticking time bomb. Everyone knows Haynesworth is a selfish player who only plays when he wants and how he wants. He'll lie and whine. He's a cancer. He is only an impact player when he feels like it - and those terms are unacceptable.

He should have been purged from the Redskins even if the team lost money or value. Let him ruin some other team.

Instead our coach played games - and with most intelligent people with a conscience, those games would have worked and motivated that person to succeed. However, those techniques reduced the head coach to a buffoon and managed to make Haynesworth useless as a defensive player. Ultimately Haynesworth gets to play as few plays as he wants, plays the scheme he wants, and we have to suck it up.

That's just wrong.

Now we have to re-evaluate Donovan McNabb who is either the underwhelming and lazy player like he was in the Super Bowl HE LOST (and he was clearly out of shape and winded and exhausted), or he is the guy who works out in the off season with some intensity.

Perhaps he is both. Perhaps he really works hard in the offseason and slacks off during the season.

But when you look at our spare tire, Rex Grossman, you find someone who can't find his way out of a wet paper bag or can't find a way to get out of a covered bridge with both ends open. Clearly Rex Grossman is an idiot, unskilled, possesses no talent, and evidently has snapshots of Shanny and Son having a gay gang bang orgy.

Ultimately this season is over - no one with any common sense would have expected this team to be better than 8-8 under the best circumstances. Now we find out that the Redskins are just as screwed up as it was under Jim Zorn and Cousin Vinnie. And with the next few games being against teams less screwed up than us, we'll soon be 4-6 and facing "here we go again!"

If this season is to be anything more than a morass of typical Washington Redskin play in the last 17 years, we better see some overpaid slackards and bombastic coaches start to re-evaluate themselves and start playing. I seriously don't see this team now going 8-8. I sense the inevitable collapse of the team that seems to somehow resemble Lucy constantly pulling the football out from Charlie Brown. And unfortunately we are Charlie Brown.

What is the point of the constitution if it can constantly be amended.

Who determines if change = good? The results? How long do we need to judge the results?

Jumbo - the blog goes between racist/political/other trash posts and actual talk about football, with some yankee trash, wizards talk thrown in. It isn't surprising for the posts to have disintegrated to this form. You just have to learn to ignore it or at least take in a good laugh from the sarcasm on here.

80 years ago, the majority of America knew abortion was wrong. Now majority knows it's right.

Sometimes they get it right, other times they get it wrong.

So if majority of America suddenly decided that stealing was right, what would stop the Govt from amending the right to steal in the constitution?

We get all emotional about this:

The following is liberal thinking. I should warn that the economic soundness and logic of the following will not conform to the brainwashed US rich class sycophant's malformed mental patterns. Most important in explanation of liberal thinking is that it is originated in individuality -- rather than orchestrated by some brainwashing rich class slaver, as in the case of US conservative thinking and as perfectly exemplified by you in your question.

The perpetual game, and not an end game, of liberalism can be exemplified nearly perfectly with the best government in the world - in Japan, where I have lived for over 15 years. Far freer, far more economically blessed, and far safer, Japan is the model you seek with your question.

I do, however, get weary of answering questions such as yours again and again - so I kindly ask that you retain the below data for your files.

Posted by: Debaitor | November 7, 2010 10:19 PM | Report abuse

By the way, Japan's is a socialist system. Cooperative corporatism is the method of economy, and there are no rich factions controlling corporations. Hence, the rich provide no jobs here. Organizations operate under primary missions “to benefit society”; that is, missions “to earn profit” are responsibly subordinated.

> free and open national and local elections which are very competitive across several parties, ruling party provides prime minister in the Diet
> national health care, full coverage at $125 per month (upper middle class income level compared to US), no rejections
> 3%-5% unemployment ongoing, during most recent US-caused recession maximum at 5.6%: http://www.tradingeconomics.com/Economic…
> under 10% personal income taxes (mine are 7.5% with above-average income level)
> 40% corporate income taxes
> 22,000 licensed lawyers as a cap with little to nothing to do (0.017% of population, or 1.7 of 10,000 persons) (while US has 24x as many lawyers or 1,200,000 lawyers, or 0.4% of population, or 40 of 10,000 persons) -- in Japan, people solve their own problems rather than working-class leeching courts
> most equitable wage distribution in the world ([a] of course extracts threat of executive thievery, [b] worst is the US and UK) (executives earn no more than double of staff salaries across the board, voluntarily and according to tradition)
> public transportation provided at no charge to all workers -- paid by employing companies (PLUS - I have never needed nor wanted an automobile, and instead save ALL the plethora associated costs, interest, taxes, and fees)
> oligopolized, inter-cooperative banks operating under missions “to benefit society” rather than “to earn profit” (no working class gouging ATM fees) (no checking accounts to gouge workers) (low interest and generous forbearance)
> setting 10% product price mark-up typically across-the-board by sellers (voluntary based on honor and missions “to benefit society”), heedless of fluctuations in demand -- effectively discourages consumer price gouging
> subsidized staple food products to the end consumer, regulating ongoing fair pricing
> no excessively abusive sin taxes (cigarettes at ~$4, exact same brand price at ALL vendors -- lowest price in the world)
> lowest crime rate in the world (due to no rich class oppression) (AND only 1.8 police per 1000 people vs. 2.85 per 1000 in the US)
> even the very, very few homeless in Japan WILL NOT beg -- perfectly debunks vacuous accusations that socialism creates dependency, and rather displays that socialism heightens personal honor: http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/n…

> free to carry a beer into a theatre or onto a train (just threw that in to exhibit daily freedom from fascist abuse) (Why can we do this? We can because (1) law books are logical rather than oversized for working class thievery, and (2) competition is not a forced philosophy here. The theatre doesn’t force their product down my throat, nor get their panties in any wad over what I do. I’m FREE here.)

And here's the clincher:

> $28 trillion in national savings ($13 trillion of which held by households): http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=…

So, it's not an end in any measure, as this society continues its improvements and perfections daily and annually. Therefore, it's perpetuity -- or an "organism" which grows and develops.

How about the one you are receiving? You start with me and then admit that you were wrong and then start again.

Well, this year's been pretty good, all in all.

Cowboys go from preseason favorites to win the Super Bowl at home to WORSE than the 2009 Redskins.

The Raiders are actually winning games.

The Redskins are actually winning games.

The Cowboys "ES TINK," as Desi Arnaz would say... And the poor NFL has them all booked up primetime now until the end of the world with their ringers, Michaels and Collinsworth blowing them every chance they get.

LOVE IT!

And you're right, we definitely need more Jerrah clapping those SB Rings together on the sideline. What a joke.

Al Davis > Jerrah Jones

Listen jumbo. I've finally noticed your posts and it's for all the wrong reasons.

I choose to argue with an idiot that can't admit when they are wrong and being the idiot that you are I will choose not to continue.

Because..

Arguing with an idiot is frivolous, they will only wear you down and beat you with experience.

You're point was that I was trying to paint JC8 in a negative light even though I was indifferent and posted how he lead them to an overtime win. Get some sleep.

There is no greater reverence for under sized speedsters in the NFL than DC.

Smart move Karen. I tried to bait debaitor once. It was probably the most worthless waste of time and effort that I've ever commited on this blog.(And I've commited my fair share of worthless wasted time and effort!)

This nonsense about McNabb is just media gossip at this point. If it has any substance Im sure we will be dealing with it in the offseason anyway, not this season. If we can't get anyone better for next year McNabb stays, and if we can get someone better (at the right price) then McNabb goes. Until that decision is made all this talk is just jabber cuz the coaching staff and Mcnabb arent gonna tell us what is really going on.

Did anybody see mike jenkins give up on that touchdown to james jones? he didn't even attempt to make the tackle. at least we dont have any heartless, gutless S.O.B's on our team, like jenkins.

Posted by: shortman4 | November 7, 2010 10:36 PM

Jones will be a free agent this offseason. He might be worth pursuing if the Pack go in another direction.

loved watching the 'pukes give it up to GB. Didn't hurt that my FF team had Rodgers and JJones ... and he was playing miles austin.

I remember thinking when jerruh was hiring the coach, that he wanted norv. I was disappointed he didn't go with norv, right up until he got wade. You gotta figure neither of those guys were gong to make it work.

Posted by: RedSkinHead | November 7, 2010 8:55 AM

Give Campbell his due. He's played major roles in wins over SD, Denver, KC and Sea ... 3 of those teams with either 4 or 5 wins. Both SD and KC were come from behind wins in close games. He had poor games vs Tenn, SF and StL.

He's playing with a group of receivers who are very inexperienced and not well regarded. His OL is no better than what we've got in DC. His top 2 RBs both missed multiple games.

Give him a decent situation and he'll be a decent QB. As for Gradkowski, the only game he helped win for Oak was vs StL. He's a good QB, and I can understand why Cable likes the guy. Sometimes a QB controversy looks like what they have in AZ, where both guys are awful. Sometimes its Sonny vs Billy. Campbell vs Gradkowsi is definitely between those!! 2 guys good enough to win a bunch of games.

jerruh jones

"There are a lot of people here who are certainly going to suffer and suffer consequences. I'm talking about within the team -- players, coaches who have got careers. This is certainly a setback. I know firsthand what it is to have high expectations. I think unquestionably that our expectations were thinking we're something we were not, possibly looking at what might be relative to a Super Bowl. All of those things have certainly contributed early.

"But we have so many things that we need to correct and address, as this game so vividly exposed and previous games have. I've got a lot of work to do, got a lot of decisions to make. And it's not just one, two, three or four. There are several decisions. I think everybody in this country would agree that there's a lot wrong with this team that we've got to address, and I'm certainly the one to address it."

note to jerruh jones: I'm not suffering -- but you might want to try making of few more of those Papa John commercials, really.

"DUDE," I would put my money on the Raiders with Jason Campbell to beat the Redskins by 10.

They're 5-4 and have beaten decent competition. They have a run game. They have young talent at many key positions. I would seriously bet on the Raiders straight up. No question. I watched their 4th quarter today and when you compare it to OUR 4th quarter, it was like night and day, like Grossman and McNabb. Casey Rabach is the worst center in the league. Stephon Heyer is the JOKE you were talking about and Lichtensteiger is, to borrow from my son's description of liver, "not good."

Raider's line is improving. They started off really badly. They're young - that's expected. But, our line has degenerated into maybe the most pathetic excuse for a line since the 2009 Zorn Dirt Bags. One prolific poster on here even suggested that the 2009 line would "laugh" at the O Line the Redskins fielded against Detroit.

Now, we're not like the worst in the league (Dallas), but we'll be LUCKY to sweep them. Lucky. I would bet on Dallas to beat us. I swear, I don't like this, but that's what I'm looking at.

Of course, if you get 4 pics from D Hall every game, you can coast to a comfortable 3 pt lead.

Book it!

(not.)

Ugh...with Banks on the sidelines and Vick playing lights out, I suddenly don't like our odds to beat Philly next week...

On a more pleasant note, Dallas isn't just done...they're dead. If you can't even get within shouting distance of that M.A.S.H. unit in Green Bay, they've obviously quit. I mean, if they win more than 4 games this year it'll be a miracle...

Yes, but we seem to play well against Vick. I hope that continues. McNabb will be healthier and hopefully the O-line too. Close again, but i see us winning 23-20 or 17-14.

the cowboy's loss last nite was stupendous. I bet JJ won't be able to wait till the end of the year to fire phillips. would any of us ? wonder who he elevates from the current coaching staff ?

What? Because the last time we saw him we crushed his ribcage? As a Falcon, that dude used to eat us alive.

I hope we can contain him too, but if the Colts (who have great team speed) can't bottle him up, I don't like our chances to do it either...unless McNabb goes off for like 4 TDs and leads us to about 35 points...

jones is his own worse enemy. far and above, this guy is in denial about his ability to be a GM and own a team. I for one love the fact that such a self indulged moron owns the cowboys, a team we don't have to worry about as long as he owns them.

Al Saunders is right. JC can't learn the playbook.

oops...

I mean, Mike Shannahan is right. McNabb (with 4 NFC Championships and a SB appearance) can't learn the playbook.

I guess wherever McNabb goes next year, he'll have a winning record just like JC and we'll be stuck with some Cutler/Plummer clone who knows the playbook and throws pick 6's anyway.

Shannahan didn't choose Elway. He chose Plummer, Bubby Brister, Beuerlein, Griese, and Cutler. McNabb is both statistically and from a leadership standpoint the best QB that Shannahan ever picked to run an offense.

the single most important player on our team gets injured.....

this sucks.... need to have him back as soon as possible.

But also... more important to have him fully healthy, no set backs, and fully functioning before he returns to the field.

This kid is a too important to just try to wing an injury...

rabach the weakling and resident neanderthal man tripping mcnabb is from him being constantly pushed off the line of scrimmage into the qb, this idiot needs to be removed by his leader shamm-o-KLAN loves lineman who get blasted nearly the entire game (GORY litchensteiger included) as far as mcnabb moving quicker than the non-athletic sloth moving p. manning what a joke mcnabb could move quicker than him from under center with one leg. austin should be brought up from practice squad along with cooke, and capers(for o-line) they have a rookie free safety that should join the 53 man roster and release WEED" smoking doughty this guy can't cover his a-z with his pants and makes too many penalties on special teams which has already caused banks a TD. as for you racists and bigots the other qb on the eagles kolb hunts and kills hogs for fun and sport(just like many of you) his is a KILLER also. the raiders have more young talent than washington campbell is solid and their team is better than washington, shamm-o-KLAN is too arrogant and stupid to make changes that work he will probably trot out the same o-line that started against the lions, keep galloway and r. williams on team along with doughty and heyer it is his fault that he did not improve wr position and blame it all on the qb. If snyder can ever do anything right for the team he would fire the DIC-tater and son the sooner the better.
