Hitting the Morning Links

Breakfast links are as essential to gameday prep as eyeblack:

  • If it seems as if there are more undefeated and winless teams this deep into the season than any time in recent memory, you're right. Mark Maske deciphers what this means.
  • Jason Reid, Rick Maese, Barry Svrluga, Mike Wise and Thomas Boswell are on the ground in North Carolina. Follow @RedskinsInsider and @hyperskins (featuring Paul Tenorio) on twitter, as well as @JReidPost, @RickMaese, @barrysvrluga and @dcsportsbog (Dan Steinberg will provide his unique view from D.C.) For mobile alerts, text "Redskins" to 98999.
  • Comedian Danny Rouhier has a new video of his Game 4 viewing experience.
The View from Charlotte

There's a hot seat in North Carolina and Julius Peppers's backside is squarely on it, writes Scott Fowler. There's more from Charles Chandler and David Scott.

* Comedian Danny Rouhier has a new video of his Game 4 viewing experience.

Is this the same Danny Rouhier who just won the Nobel Prize for comedy?

Is it me or is this "already approached" Mike Shanahanamanahan another distraction we don't need?

mack1,

A little backup to your claim, if you would be so inclined. The Fan read some of Sally's word verbatim and her conculsion was Danny has to go.

Arrington, if you've been listening has stated many times that Danny poisons everything that comes into Redskins Park.

So what would you be claiming, or, are you just spouting out loud, signifying nothing.

The very first debaucle that Casserly did was to allow the breakup of the Posse. Gibbs might have had a hand in it, but the Posse was still the best 3-receiver set in the League, even though old and a step slow as claimed.

You see being a step slow really don't mean crap, iffin' you are still the best tandem in the League.

Casserly just looked at the individual instead of looking at the whole and it was stupid to break up the Posse at that time.

How in the hell could one guy from Michigan come and replace the production of the Posse. Casserly looking at the individual picture instead of the whole.

I know the rest of the East said Amen, when Casserly decided to move on from Monk, Clarke and Sanders.

LarryInClintonMD.

And its said the Casserly told Synder he fired the wrong guy... The Nerve...Casserly does run thing profusely and that is, his mouth, but he never says much of anything. Listen to him carefully.

Correction: Casserly does run one thing...

If he never really says much why would I want to listen to him carefully? I'd still rather have him then Snyderatto.

From the last thread...about the Skins [alleged] ongoing pursuit of Shanahan.

This can't be, Mr. Fisherman. It has to be some rumo(u)r started by JLC, or JReid, or some other Postie, trying to stir up trouble, based on their agenda against the team. There's no way this magnificent owner, and his exceptional EVP/GM/SUCKHOLE would ever contemplate this type of move.

The NY Times '5th Down' blog on today's game:

SKINS AT PANTHERS
Line: Panthers by 3 1/2

"The Panthers have an opportunity to shake off their 0-3 start with a three-game stretch that includes the Redskins, Buccaneers and Bills, but they can’t figure out what’s wrong with the offense. Seriously. “I’m at a loss right now. I don’t know what the problem is,” tackle Jordan Gross said last Monday night, ignoring the flashing neon sign over Jake Delhomme’s locker. The Redskins’ mangy-dog victories over bad opponents like the Rams and Buccaneers are almost as discouraging as losses, and their offense is on a strict one-highlight-per-week quota. The over-under for this game is set at 37.5, a sign that Vegas anticipates a few interception-return touchdowns."

Right now, we're the only team blocking the path to the bottom of the NFC East.

Posted by: MistaMoe

why limit it to the NFC East, how about the NFC? They suck right now regardless of the reason or reasons.

Okay Larry. I'll explain. First you say you didn't read the article. Then you launch into your critique of the article. That's when I come along and make fun of you for the obvious stupidity of that move. Nothing personal.
But while we're engaged in this illuminating back and forth, I have to ask, why do you sign your name one line above where it says Posted by: LarryInClintonMD?

This team is a mess. It begins and ends at the top. Snyder has made a mess of the skins much like his other projects - Johnny Rockets and Six Flags.
At least Casserly had sense enough not to draft Reggie Bush while in Houston. D Howard was Gibbs pick -

Big Mike is in for Chad. WTF!!

Posted by: jm220 | October 11, 2009 10:27 AM | Report abuse

It was the owner who did not want to sign Reggie Bush, they wanted the contract to be done before the draft, hence Casserly was very lucky, his draft sucks. While he was Redskins GM as well as with Houston.

I am sorry to say, but Vinny C has drafted better than GM guru.

Just imagine if he was that great, then he would have been a GM, not answering each and every reporters phone calls.

I don't think any owner buys a football team with the explicit goal of losing. I believe Dan Snyder wants a winning football team. I think that's a no-brainer because in a business sense, Superbowl = very lucrative promotions and that is the appeal to Dan Snyder. I think the Dan's problem is he truly doesn't know how to do this. For an astute business person, he really seems clueless as to how to build a winning franchise. If nothing else, he should just benchmark the more successful franchises and try to copy the things that work. This is what a company would do that was getting it's butt kicked by a competitor. You've got to hand it to Snyder, he has been loyal to a fault to Vinny Cerrato. I don't think Vinny is as bad a talent evaluator as many suggest (he's not excellent either), but I think Vinny just rolls over when Snyder wants his way. It outwardly appeared that Joe Gibbs was able to get away with denying some of Snyder's wishes, but I think it was a constant struggle and it wore him down.

So, here's my point: the Redskins could be a winning franchise with Snyder in the owner's seat, but he is going to need a strong GM that won't get fired if he tells Dan no. I personally think this could happen. Snyder wouldn't have pulled himself up through the marketing world by his bootstraps if he were a complete idiot. To me, Vinny is the problem right now, even though Vinny's biggest flaw just be he cannot say "no" to the boss.
