Brian Orakpo may stand to benefit from Brian Cushing's suspension

Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo's case for defensive Rookie of the Year could be open again -- sort of.

Dave Goldberg, a longtime voter and advisor for the Associated Press's annual award, says that a re-vote is possible after it was revealed that last season's winner, Houston linebacker Brian Cushing, tested positive for a banned substance.

The Associated Press is discussing whether to strip Cushing of the award. It could simply allow voters to cast their votes again to see if they feel Cushing is still deserving of the honor.

Orakpo finished a distant fourth in the initial voting, but no one was close to Cushing and those votes could be re-distributed in a variety of ways.

The award is determined by a nationwide vote of media members. Here's how the initial vote breakdown looked: Cushing 39, Buffalo safety Jairus Byrd 6, Green Bay linebacker Clay Matthews 3 and Orakpo 2.

Cushing finished fifth in the league with 134 tackles, and Byrd was tied for the league-lead with nine interceptions. Orakpo was tied for seventh in the league with 11 sacks, one more than Matthews.

Here’s another question:

I could be mis-remembering something here, but I believe I read somewhere that Shanny could have made 2 of the OTA’s mandatory, but only chose to make one…..if it was SUCH a big deal, why didn’t he use his option to make 2 of them mandatory?

On hip hop:

Andre3000, Ghostface Killah, Black Thought of the Roots and Mos Def don't get nearly enough credit.

Fishscale and Big Doe Rehab are two of the bangin'est hip hop albums of the last five years.

Andre3000 kills every collabo he's on (he ripped Int'l Playas Anthem, check his 16 on Hollywood Divorce - forced Wayne to take his up a notch). He'd be top 5 in the game if he wanted to rap. Black Thought is one of the most ferocious spitters in the game. And the multi-talented Mighty Mos can hang with anyone.

Walter,
Gold pants w/ white jersey?
I don't think so.
Then again, w/ a strong burgundy stripe on the pants and shirt, it could work.

Right now I prefer burgundy pants w/ white jersey.

Everyone, I'm tired of talking AH.

RedskinRay1,
like i said, with the white jersey i could go with either burgundy or gold for the pants. i guess it's the white pants i've never liked.

re hip hop:
think we need to interview shanny and AH and get their take on it.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/04/15/AR2010041505445.html

"Because Shanahan is a new coach, the Redskins are permitted to hold two extra minicamps this year. Under league rules, teams can hold up to 14 offseason training activity (OTA) sessions as a part of their offseason workout program. Most teams can have just one mandatory veteran minicamp. But newly hired coaches have the option of holding two additional voluntary minicamps."

the wording above was somewhat unclear. but my understanding is that all teams are limited to a single mandatory mini-camp, and new coaches can have two extra voluntary sessions...

from article XXXVI of the CBA:

"Section 1. Number: Each League Year each Club may hold a maximum of one mandatory mini-camp for veteran players. If a Club hires a new head coach after the end of the regular season, that Club may hold two additional voluntary mini-camps for veteran players. There is no limitation on the number of mini-camps a Club may hold for rookie players."

also, here's a report from Denver, discussing the general rules with examples from the Shanahan era.

just a wild guess, but I figured you for someone that would like J-pop.

spent the past few years driving around Idaho/Montana wilderness hunting frogs while blasting Shibuya-kei as loud as it could go.

especially fond of Pizzicato Five, although the locals had a hard time making sense of it. and like you, they wanted to know why I was hunting frogs.

favorite part was talking trash with logging trucks on the CB. my Subaru outback was always the "big rig".

Rod the Mod had his moments in faces/small faces and on a few early solo records, but quickly went pop and schlock to often. Very little song writing talent and in the end a decent singer with a good haircut.

Black Thought is beyond legit. That man kills it. I'm still bumpin his verse on Wale's Pretty Girls when he was a guest on Jimmy Fallon's late night show.

But Questlove is the man that carries The Roots through and through. He keeps everything fresh. The Roots and Outkast are the only hip-hop artists or group of artists in which every album you listen to has a unique sound from any other album they produce. Their consistency and longevity is unmatched.

It's tough to maintain the level of masterpiece they set-up with ATLiens and Aquemini, which just happen to be two of my top 5 favorite albums of all-time.

Still, they've managed to evade (or stave off) the drop-off better than anyone else I can think of.

THESE SHARKS HAVE CHANGED
http://www.mercurynews.com/top-stories/ci_15052275?nclick_check=1

You saw it in their faces. You felt it throughout the third-period catharsis. You heard it in the Sharks' voices when Game 5 was over. Zeke saw it live from his choice seats, high above the masses close to the ice.

You can't plan an emotional breakthrough like this. You just ride it.

The Sharks went through the playoff looking glass during this Detroit series, and they came out essentially different than they've ever been before.

"The last five minutes," Evgeni Nabokov said afterward, "were probably the most exciting and important minutes we've played in a long time."

Let's take it back a bit longer than that, to right before Patrick Marleau scored the tiebreaking goal on a pass from Joe Thornton.

From that moment until the ecstatic minutes after the final horn, the Sharks looked like a team that not only could win a Stanley Cup but also knows it can.

And finally thinks it should.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

And this is the prevailing thought that started my whole rant on B.O.B. in the first place. Just when I thought the game was dying, this man comes through with a sound I've never heard before. Evolution of hip-hop at its finest.

"McNair adds being "left out of the loop" is something that should be addressed in the next collective bargaining agreement."
