Carlos Rogers will be at Washington Redskins minicamp

Although cornerback Carlos Rogers still has not signed his one-year tender offer, he plans to participate in the voluntary three-day minicamp that began late Friday morning at Redskins Park.

"Yeah, I'll be there," Rogers said in a phone interview late Thursday night. "I'm not [signing the tender yet], but I'll be at camp."

Rogers, who also participated in the first voluntary minicamp, reiterated he is no longer frustrated about not receiving a lucrative multiyear offer. And Rogers said he is not disappointed about still being on the roster after other teams pursued him in trade talks during the draft. So why hasn't he signed the tender?

"Just haven't," he said. "My agent, I guess, still has some things to talk to them about. I'm not sure. I'm fine. I'm cool. I'm done with the negativity. I know they're not [planning to offer a long-term deal]. I'm not looking for that. Just trying to get ready. I mean, I have to be here."

There is a deadline for players to sign tenders in order to play this season. "I know I have to sign it eventually or I can't play," Rogers said. "I know."

"Carlos Rogers will be at Washington Redskins minicamp"

Given the high numbers of ex-Washington Redskins the new FO has generated, I'd shut up and just play, too.

Los can get paid, but his play must be the common denominator to a new deal.

JRuss is ONLY 24 years old....

....He can be our backup for the next 3/4 years learning under DMac...And be a very polished player by the time he is 27/28 years old.....

That would be the smart thing...

There's no way Russel receives any offer to compete for a starting spot for any team in the league.

And he's not 300 lbs. He actually reported to Raiders' camp at 260.

I'd take a flyer on Russel to compete with Colt/Bartel/Clark for the vet minimum (or close to it).

But I actually see the chances of him 'getting it' as slim to none.

As bad as Grossman/Colt are, I'd take them 8 days a week over JRuss. Its clear the guy doesn't have what it takes to make it in the NFL. Gross & Colt will at least put in the work.

4th, what makes you think he has any desire, or any want to succeed as a player?

I just don't see it...anyone who has let themselves go to the extent that he has, I mean, sure he's talented, but he has to WANT to succeed....

Good to see Rogers and McIntosh reporting to camp. If you're transitioning defenses, missing 3 starters during camp isn't the way you want to begin it.

Wow...if the goal is getting LT off for inadequate legal representation, then mission accomplished. Check out this exchange from the Today Show:
Matt Lauer: "Did Lawrence Taylor have sex with this young lady, a 16-year-old, in his hotel room?"
Aidala: "No."
Matt Lauer: "Did he have consensual sex with her?"
Aidala: "No."
Matt Lauer: "Did she go to his hotel room?"
Aidala: "I'm not gonna get into those facts. Those facts will be litigated in the courtroom when she's on the stand and she's cross examined by me at a trial."

It's like Jim Zorn as a lawyer...

The lawyer did the right thing here. The charge, so I've read, is statutory rape, which is sex with a minor without regard to consent or a lack thereof. So, the lawyer denied any sex at all. To say otherwise would have been an admission on his part. The other question he just punted on because he didn't want to get trapped into a factual scenario by the media when it wasn't necessary. He got the key point out, which was that LT didn't have sex with her.

By the time he is 27 y/o he will weigh 450lbs.

Everybody he's been around thinks he's a nice kid with a strong arm. Unfortunately, they also think he's a binge-eating lazy guy with a very short attention span who doesn't get that the QB has to be the hardest worker. Maybe McNabb could help him some...but that much? If he has an epiphany about how special his talent is, someone might get lucky with him. But the next move has to come from him. He's got to convince a GM somewhere that he's not really just dying to go back to his hometown and eat through his signing bonus.

J Russell will not get a look, here folks.
No way.
D Mac is clearly the starter
Grossman and Colt will be fighting for 2 and 3.
Bartel and Clark are here in case
a. a QB goes down
b. to determine who will go on practice squad

Posted by: RedskinRay1 | May 7, 2010 10:52 AM | Report abuse

I'll just say it now...J Russell will go down as the biggest bust in NFL history. Sorry Ryan Leaf your infamy has ended. The only reason for him to return to the NFL is his passion for the game.

Posted by: sthai75 | May 7, 2010 10:53 AM | Report abuse

I can think it is safe to assume a couple of things about JMarc;

A) He has made plenty of money and does not really have to get another lucrative deal (unless he pissed it all away)

B) He has never trained hard enough as evidence by his lack of production and 300 lb weight

C) If he does get a deal with any team, it will be no strings attached incentive laden

Which then brings us full circle to "Why would anyone want him"

7 wins. No drive. Not much want to get better. So ultimately he is not even a third string cause thats for young guys trying their butts off.

At least for the skins, I say HELL NO! And I really doubt he gets another shot.

JRuss will/should get another shot. But I think for him it would need to be with a stronger team that has established coach and a more recent track record of winning where he can cool his heels a bit and regroup while learning, being in winning atmosphere and getting in shape.

Vince Young turned it around pretty quick in similar situation...although that situation was the team he was already on...but analogous still.

Posted by: skinsfanintampa | May 7, 2010 10:37 AM

Right now...Yes

But I'm projecting here. Warren Sapp, his former teamate blamed the Raiders more the Russell. He had a bad OLine. No real receivers. And No running game.

No one has ever questioned his Football Smarts. He is a smart dude. He just didn't have the motivation.

His God Mother and Uncle, who was his father figure passed away over the past few years. He had beaucoup $$ beyond what you can imagine.

Combine that with being drafted by the raiders, a team with worser dysfunction than the Redskins (take not JCamp), that would have been a rough situation for anyone to succed. See: Moss, Randy and Sapp, Warren as examples.....

I wanted JC17 (now JC8) to sign his tendor and be the back up this year.

Russell was drafted on the heels of Art Shell's (UMES BAby!) terrible 2-14 season. Lane Kiffin was the youngest most inexperinced Head Coach in the NFL. And he had to go through the struggle of ever evolving OCs.

He just needs to be in the right enviroment to succed (sp?).

"Vince Young turned it around pretty quick in similar situation...although that situation was the team he was already on...but analogous still.Posted by: chrislarry"

Well, sort of. Vince played a lot better than he had in his second season. But he still didn't throw the ball all that well, particularly in view of that very effective Tennessee running attack. He was only throwing about 21 times a game, and finished with 10 TDs vs 7 INTs and a 58.7% completion rate (vs Jason Campbell's 62.1%). He wasn't going downfield all that much (avg. completion 7.3 yds)-- a hair above Campbell's, and you know how Jason got roasted for dumping off.

Where Young really helped the Titans was with his legs. He's very hard to sack, and the constant threat of him taking off upfield helped keep defenses from ganging up on Chris Johnson. Plus the Titans pass-block pretty well.

I'd say Vince was actually better than either Mark Sanchez or Chad Henne, both of whom went to the playoffs, but the thing that made him look much better to the casual observer was the team's winning record.

Posted by: Samson151 | May 7, 2010 11:14 AM | Report abuse

We'll see who's the idiot...

McIntosh will be a starting ILB for the Skins. He had the second most defensive tackles last year (94 -- 46th in the league) and he's playing for a new contract as motivation.

Rogers should be a lot better this year based nothing more than the scheme change. A more aggressive front seven should help shorten the DB coverage times and reduce the double move problems. The defense should not play in zone coverage as much as last year. Plus Rogers is also playing for a new contract... Although I hope he works on catching the ball every day in practice -- cuz he cannot catch worth a damn...

We have transcripts of a late night phone call between Lawrence Taylor and a 'friend' of his.

LT: Where in the F did you get that girl, man!

Pimp: My car broke down at a bus stop near the park, and she looked a lil cute.

LT: You know I didn't ask you for no damn teeny-boppin Monica Lewinsky action.

Pimp: No, you said 'a hole is a hole is a hole' so long as it's wet.

LT: Yeah, I did, but not one so young she thinks Obama is Uncle Ben's grandson.

Pimp: What???? You mean he's not?

And I ate all that rice for nothing.

LT: Shut up, fool. I might get serious time for this! This your fault!

Pimp: What?...you couldn't tell she was underage by the school uniform, braces, and braids?

LT: Maybe the uni was a turn on.

Pimp: Then, don't get mad at me.

And why are you, a wealthy man with a rep, meeting chicks in the local Holiday Inn for hookups, anyways?

Ain'tcha ever heard of Gentleman's Clubs?

Tell you one thing--when you get to jail, the only uni that'll be a turn on will the Tossed Salad Man's orange jumpsuit.

And of course, his hole will be more brown than wet.

You seem to be contradicting yourself. I saw the Today show as well and no details were provided and they denied wrongdoing in general by saying he did not have sex with the girl. They also talked about how LT is a different man from the guy who had drug and tax problems 10 years ago.

It is true that generally lawyers don't talk about anything to anyone until the trial is over. But sometimes you have to litigate in the court of public opinion. In case like this where every potential juror has seen LT do a perp walk and has been told that he has been arrested and charged with having sex with a teen, you have to get out there and tell those jurors, "That little sjk is lying" as forcefully as you can and promise to tear her a new one when she has to testify. And if she is lying, it may give her some pause knowing what she faces.

One sure -- and overworked -- tell that someone doesn't agree with you is when they begin their post with these five words: "Let me get this straight."

You can also expect that they're going to take what you said and twist it into a caricature that suits their own purposes and is easier to ridicule than what you actually said, or thought. Happens every time.

4th, respect, but all I see is you listing excuse after excuse, after excuse....personal responsibility has to play SOME role in his abject failure....

Posted by: BeantownGreg1 | May 7, 2010 11:05 AM

Shiiiid...JC8 was getting plenty of excuses by the masses up here.....SO, I don't see a difference...I wasn't giving excuses, but just trying to explain why he has come to be so unmotivated.....And am trying to say, 'this is fixable'....

Samson, I am not saying Vince Young is a finished product as a QB...but 2 years ago he almost flaked himself out of football...but instead he took his lumps, rededicated himself, and progressed. You can parse numbers all you want on Young, but when he is concentrating on Football, the dude wins games. And all QBs are products of their team and utilize skills that separate themselves as atheletes.

I was not saying Vince Young is top 5, I was saying that as an example of high pick to scrap heap, to starter he provides a positive example to JRuss.

LH, the basis for what I'm saying is you say as little as possible if you're LT's lawyers in that interview. Offering up that no one had sex and then going "no comment" on the follow up just looks bad. If you tell Lauer that you're not going into specifics, but that LT is guilty of no wrong-doing and move on, that just seems to be a better scenario. I see what you're saying about public opinion and all, but you gotta let that work itself out once LT testifies.

I'm no lawyer, but that's just my two cents...

I don't buy the whole unmotivated thing, he gave up, and there is no excuse for that..shouldn't the fact that he was getting paid to do a job have motivated him?? I don't buy that not at all...he got his money, got fat, and that was it....

would anyone be surprised if in 10 years ESPN is doing a special on this guy, because he's broke, and homeless....

So let me get this straight….are you saying that 4th Floor is NOT “on Jamarcus Russell’s nutz”? It looks to me like he thinks Russel should be our starter and is a card carrying member of the JRUssel Defense Union. Seems pretty obvious to me.

Jaysis BG, obviously you could very well be right but the cat is still only 24, not sure society should be in the business of scrap heaping 24 year olds. If he ends like you have him, he only becomes a drain on society...if he prospers still he adds to society...so on that level root for the kid.

I swear the world you live in is 2 dimensional. But hey with your acumen for predictions, JRuss is now a sure fire HOFamer...

Hey Skins fan in Tampa,
I was thinking the new FO might want to change uniforms to signal their era has arrived.
Was also thinking they might want to alter the helmet and calm down some of the talk.

But I could be wrong...
Because Bruce really seems to be returning to his father's ways.
a. many older vets signed
b. bringing back the gold pants

So perhaps he will want to remain the the helmet that came in 72 when George was HC.
Good Day,and go Gators!

Yeah, westjr88, if the reports are true, why would any team invite Russell? I would not.

But on the other hand.

The reports on Randy Moss coming from Oakland were something like, lost a step, slow, insolent, yadayadayada, and lo' and behold' he goes to New England and we find out those reports weren't exactly true.

Not saying these reports aren't true of Russell though, but I'msa' jus' sayin'.

don't really like the spear either, but not because of FSU. just think it's a clunky piece of graphic design. actually fond of the helmet w/ warrior, would be willing to check out something different, though.

check out these links... not sure if Gameplan Creative are the folks contracted for a redesign, but it looks legit:

regardless, does anyone disagree that the all-time ugliest 'skins uniforms are these?

To wit

"Florida State's gold helmets with garnet and white spears on both sides are the focal point of a uniform which was named the "best in college football" in a 1991 fan poll by Sporting News. The Seminoles have had virtually the same head gear for 30 years dating back to Bobby Bowden's arrival in 1976."

Let me get this straight -- you're saying that Obama was born somewhere in the Malay peninsula and it was a North Korean sub that secretly fired on the Gulf pipeline, causing the rupture that now threatens the coast, and that this was all paid for by Exxon in an effort to put BP out of business?

Wow, you must be nuts.

So 'no' to throwback unis because they kinda look like FSU's unis, but 'yes' to late 80s punch lines? Priorities, dude.

Disagree on the unis...FSU's gold is more like the Saints' gold, nothing like the Redskins' yellow gold. The Skins throwbacks are nowhere near as busy lookin' as the Seminoles.

I doubt that he will be influenced by what he grew up with and I doubt that he will be heavily involved in the design. My own guess is that he hires some experts on this to make recommendations and he and Snyder will choose among two or three finalists.
