Carlos Rogers healing, unsure about Sunday

By Jason Reid

Although his sore hamstrings are better, cornerback Carlos Rogers is not sure about his status for the upcoming game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he said Monday at Redskins Park.

"They're better," Rogers said. "But I don't know. I ain't gonna predict nothing."

Rogers sat out the Week 11 victory over the Tennessee Titans because of a sore right hamstring. During the Week 12 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, Rogers injured his left hamstring and sat out after halftime.

"It feels a lot better. I started running," Rogers said. "You never know.

"I gotta get some of this blood moving [in the] right area. Once that start moving more, I can gauge it."

After Sunday's 31-7 blowout loss to the New York Giants, players acknowledged that the Redskins are highly unlikely to earn a postseason berth. But the Redskins still must play hard during their final four games, Rogers said.

"It's still a interview for a lot of us," he said. "I'm pretty sure coaches look at it as what guys gonna lay down when you ain't got nothing to play for.

"You're playing for a win, you're playing for a lot more. My main thing, just talking to coaches, is to get healthy. Once I get out there, my mindset's to win."

Well, if Carlos can't play, he can't play.
At least we know he would not drop an INT

Moe,

I'm with you. Shanahan has all the authority along with the responsibility; Zorn simply had the responsibility with the least amount of authority in the history of the NFL.

Bingo. But, if LL30 is voted into the PB anyway, I could well see a scenario where he is shut down for the year because he is one of the key cogs of the defense and the team respectively going forward. I assume the financial incentive is for being voted in rather than playing.

Sonny Jurgensen said this morning that if you want to punish Haynesworth, don't bench him (it was COLD and brutal out there) - instead, make him play and don't allow him to come out of the game. This makes sense. Although I still don't understand why he was being punished.

Posted by: Lisa_R | December 6, 2010 12:22 PM

(insert P_F chauvinist insult here)

Why is he being punished? Are you kidding me??? I'll spare the last 12 months and just go with last weeks events...

Apparently he had a few too many Wednesday night and went threw the motions on Thursday. On Thursday night he out did his previous night's consumption and was too hungover to practice on Friday.

You have guys busting it in practice with half the talent and 1/10th the salary and a malcontent that has does everything but wipe his ass with the BnG and doesn't want to practice.... And you say you should play....If you play him, you lose the locker room, make him inactive and you may be a little undermanned by it's not like he's giving us anything with his 15-20 plays per game in the nickel.

I would deactivate him for the season and take whatever you could get in a trade. His salary is very tradable and to say that his trade value could sink any less is laughable..

We sure could have used that WR wearing #81 playing special teams for the Gints. Some big hits on Banks, a blocked punt, a punt downed at the one.... that's talent that just needs to be developed.

Well, at least we tried to develop Galloway.

There is one for the Pro Bowl but another based on the number of tackles he makes.

Whether he is "shut down" will be decided by what the doctors say.

The thing is, Alan, that this doosh bag never offered any of that type of play when he was with the Skins. I am going to throw this out there and you all can hold me to it. DT will not be on the G-Spots before the end of their season - which will likely end in the playoffs.

Book that.

He tipped a punt after a bad snap, fielded a ball at the 5 that 9x out of 10 goes into the end zone (lucky bounce) and had ONE tackle. How many catches did he have yesterday?

That's exactly what you want out of a 2nd RD pick (sarcasm). He's a complete BUST that's on his 3rd team and will be cut when Nicks or Smith return...However, if he played like that on ST here, he might still be here.

He didn't and good riddance.

We put a lot more into trying to develop Thomas, and we got nothing for it. He didn't make any big plays like that here, and I guess you want to blame the two coaching staffs for that? He doesn't.

After the game he said that he wanted to thank the Redskins and Carolina for cutting him. He said that he really needed to learn from his mistakes with those clubs and he hopes he has it right now with the Giants.

As far as "could have used him" what we could use is a WR and he hasn't been one yet for us, Carolina or the Giants. Big plays on special teams is not why you draft guys in the second round.

Maybe not... but what kind of play did the guys ahead of him on the depth chart offer? The fact that Galloway was cut halfway through the season is confirmation he may been marginally better than Thomas... but he was twice his age!

Why not keep and develop the younger guy with the upside? At least let him play out the full season, it's not like you have someone better.

On what to do about AH, if I'm Shanahan I sit down together with my captains, let them give their input, and then make a decision. The captains are the team's elected representatives, so all parties at least have a say, if not outright buy-off on the final decision.

Cutting him outright is the most cathartic but least strategically wise option, because he's got trade value, even if it's been diminished.

So if trying to get some trade value out of him is the objective, you play him, provided that he practices.

If he doesn't practice, or is giving poor effort in practice, you continue to sit him. What you do with Haynesworth on Sunday depends on what he does Monday through Saturday.

This is consistent, and the important thing here is to send a consistent message to the team. Haynesworth won't be here next year, but a lot of these other guys will be.

Cutting him outright or playing him regardless of practice performance are options that should not even be on the table.

ROGERS PLANNING NEW COVERAGE SCHEME FOR DEFENSIVE SECONDARY

ASHBURN, VA -- As one of the more athletic members of the Washington Redskins, defensive back Carlos Rogers has allegedly been using his free time since suffering another injury during the November 28 game against Minnesota to come up with a new series of coverage schemes that he is planning to introduce in his next start.

While he has been trying to recover from a series of hamstring injuries that limited his ability to run on his feet, Rogers has been working to perfect a special handstand move that he learned from the team’s cheerleading coach – and is now said to be pretty adept at "running" on his hands -- while also waving his feet around to distract the pass receivers. While not quite as fast as when he is healthy and on his feet, Rogers’ self-titled “handstands and grandstands” move is still said to be fast enough to keep up with the other geezers in the Redskins defensive unit.

Informed sources on the sideline of the practice field at Ashburn also say that Rogers' feet actually seem to be much more adept at catching pass interceptions -- but unfortunately, his hands (which are rumored to be made of stone) are as still susceptible as ever to being "faked out of their gloves" by a receiver who runs the dreaded and insidious "double move."

I have seen a lot of stupid things posted on this blog, but this statement takes the cake. How retarded can you be to think that Dan Snyder is the good guy in this situation? For the past decade, our beloved team has been getting exponentially worse. You think that the past 9 years when Shanahan wasn't here, we had everything we needed to win? Are you f*ucking insane?!
This team is in shambles, and I have accepted that. Dan Snyder needs to realize that to win, you need to GROW talent, not buy it. Once this revelation hits him, we might have a shot at rebuilding the right way.
I'm only 20 years old and have spent pretty much all of my life watching my Redskins play under Snyder, and I'm getting sick of it. I would never jump ship like some readers on this blog, but this guy has got to go. As Chad Dukes so gracefully put it, "Stay the hell away from my team Dan Snyder!"

Sonny J. is right, and I've heard other ex-footballers say the same thing.

It isn't punishment for AH to stand on the sideline while his teammates go out and bust their humps on gameday.

He rests, he doesn't expose himself to injury, he's extending his playing career, and he does absolutely nothing and then cashes checks.

If you want to punish him, make him take a beating in a game...who knows, he may even make a play or 2 for you...

So when the Ginas release him when either Nicks or Smith come back we should "kick the tires" on the sudden special teams ace.

ONCE AGAIN- IF DT had played like that on special teams while he was here, he might still be here.

Roydell is 29 and actually plays WR and contributes on teams. DT has proven that he's not good enough to play WR.

This is just a case of DT being a bust and our roster being void of talent. But even with that void, DT wasn't good enough to stick.

Get over DT and move on.

So, seems that Albert Haynesworth showed up and could not practice because he was hungover.

Who made the decision that he could not practice because he was hungover. Was it him or the medical staff? And if it is true, just cut him for cause already.

Does Shanny have any balls, or would he rather pussyfoot around with a player that folks here are insinuating that alcohol is keeping him from performing his job.

Would not that be breach of contract?

Or, Diesel44 and TWISI, is this just rumor and conjecture that can't be sustantiated? If the Redskins can prove this, dosen't this give them the ammunition to go after money/contract of Big Al? Why would you just make him inactive?
