Carlos Rogers out for Redskins' finale vs. Giants

By Rick Maese

The Redskins will be without starting cornerback Carlos Rogers for Sunday's season finale against the New York Giants. Rogers suffered a calf injury in last week's win at Jacksonville and was included on the Redskins' inactive list against the Giants.

The news means that Rogers, a first-round pick in 2005 for the Redskins, may have played his final game for Washington. Rogers is expected to be a free agent at season's end. He was credited with two interceptions and 61 tackles this year, including 39 unassisted tackles.

The Redskins other inactives are: running backs Andre Brown and James Davis, guard Derrick Dockery, center Erik Cook, cornerback Reggie Jones and nose tackle Joe Joseph. For the second week in a row, Donovan McNabb is listed as the third quarterback.

The Giants' inactives are: cornerback Corey Webster, receiver Hakeem Nicks, center Shaun O'Hara, guard Mitch Petrus, tight end Jake Ballard, defensive end Dave Tollefson, offensive tackle Jamon Meredith and receiver Duke Calhoun.

Last year, the team drafted Williams, Cook, Capers, re-upped Rabach, added Hicks, Licthenslieger, and burned picks for J Brown.

In other words, the team has begun the necessary work of re-building the o-line.

But we feature a defense that couldn't stop time with a stopwatch.

Overall, our defense line issues are really bigger than our offensive line's are.

A Carriker was a nice addition.

But Daniels, Kemo, and AH all need to be replaced with a mix of draftees and hard decisions:

Look, I'm a "lines win" guy. BOTH lines. But...

How do you think the OL would have played this year if they only played four OLMen?

Maybe about as poorly as a DLINE that played with only THRE instead of four DLINEmen.

You act like never played Cook, Practice Squad Capers, too light Lichtensteiger, injury prone Brown, benched Hicks, and pushed around Rabach are part of the solution. They are part of the problem.

Yeah, there's D needs too. Mostly an NT, y'know, the guy who replaces both DTs and position that chased Haynesworth out of town.

But build a ball-control OLine and the D plays less and better.

We're arguing apples and oranges. The team has many many needs.

And if the OLine is at least on "be all and end all" how come the Redskins last flourished when the Hogs held down the fort?

Because then they could dictate to other teams.

Giants fell apart this year when their OLINE got old.

Ditto Cowboys with injuries.

Ignoring the Oline now makes as little sense as staffing a 3-4 d with 4-3 personnel.

The real probloem is they have tried to do too much at once. Fix QB (McNabb) cut and paste OLine. Hope oldies work at RB, put DLINEMEN at linebacker.

Makes little sense to me.

I think they had to see who could work on both lines. If you're going to implement a 3-4, don't wait. See which players can play in the system. That's why it takes a year to implement.

OL was just a rebuild, with not many options available. TW, JB solved 2 holes, although JB took time to heal. Hicks was an attempt to improve, but he was a backup for a reason. Big Mike has clot issue. They had to know that there were so many holes, that not all of them would be filled in one year. That's why, in hindsight, DM5 was such a reach.

Re: Maryland Football

If Anderson wanted to do something to energize the fanbase, I think he struckout with hiring Edsall. The guy looks like a fine coach who has done a bang-up job taking a nothing program to prominence in the Big East, but frankly that's not really what Maryland needs.

Maryland needs a coach that can take a middle-of-the-road program and make it a year-in year-out ACC contender. A coach with experience in a real power conference and knows what it takes.

A big part of that is better recruiting, and I don't know what kind of moxy Edsal has in that realm of the college game.

The Big East is one of the weaker power conferences. If you look at guys like Rich Rodriguez and Brian Kelly, they can find success in the Big East, but outside of that?

All in all going from Fridge to Edsall seems like a lateral move to me.

We all want the skinnies to win we just got different ideas how to get there

Id like to rebuild the offense with this yrs top two or three picks n then next yr rebuld the defense with 2 or 3 top picks

p1funk-

Edsall is the better hire, IMO. He's been getting more kids from the state of MD than we've been getting. In less than a decade he took a team from a 1AA team to a BCS game. Leach would bring more buzz but that would fade after the first YR. And as far as recruiting...Who would you rather have coach your own kid?

They are beatin' the poop out of KC.

Let rogers walk, get a compensatory pick

Sign champ to play cb

Move barnes to FS

Guys please stop thinking this is a one year fix. We need way to many pieces for a quick fix.

No more band aid job.

Build the lines. Both sides of the ball.

Posted by: brandon_in_cali | January 2, 2011 1:33 PM |

Here's the problem with your statement. Barnes as a FS is nothing more than a band aid. Ditto Champ, I mean, how much longer do you think this guy is gonna play?

I like killah defense.

I want to shut a team down.

I'd love for us to feature a 3-4 defense as good as the stillers, ravens, packers, and chargers next season.

I want the players up front--NT and DEs--to make it work.

Thing is, Shanny's might just take a quarterback and receiver in rounds 1 and 2 as his son Kyle has his ear.

And we don't.

Yes he would be a band aid.

But he's a better band aid than the one we have now.

When are they going to call holding. On a pass to Manningham on the left sideline, just before Brandon Jacobs long run, one of our rushers broke free and was lanked back by the head by a lineman draped around his shoulders.

I couldn't see his number because the guy holding him was wrapped around him. It was blindingly obvious. What are the officials doing. I am sick of seeing our guys getting yanked backwards after beating their man. and no flag being thrown.

Gatorade can make plays, and he can tackle. Love to see 22,23,30,25 as the starting DB's next year. Minus 22 if we choose to upgrade.

You can fix an intestinal block with an enema, but not sure what you plan to use on a mental block. Nose drops?

Hypnosis. Just have him listen to some Troy Aikman commentary for 5 minutes and he'll be under.

It seems like the Giants O-line and the running game was left on the cart with Seubert.

If Giants win, they'll be one and done in the playoffs (if they do make it).

DHall is playing like Danny is offering up one Redskins cheerleader for every tackle he makes today.

Who the hell is Darion Scott?

Posted by: scampbell1975 | January 2, 2011 5:01 PM

A guy that played for Haslett in the UFL. He's a POS.

Scott was arrested on December 26, 2007 after officers discovered a small amount of Marijuana in his Chevrolet Tahoe. He was booked by Charleston police officers on misdemeanor marijuana possession charges.[1]

Scott was arrested again on April 30, 2008 for suspicion of assault and malicious punishment of a child. [2] Scott will face two felony charges and one misdemeanor charge. The boy's mother allegedly found Scott holding a dry cleaning bag over the child's head. Scott told police the two were playing a game with the bag, and Scott wanted to see if the boy could get the bag off his head by himself.

Small amounts of marijuana shouldn't be illegal

Posted by: coparker5 | January 2, 2011 5:20 PM | Report abuse

Brilliant. They just showed one of our linemen being blocked in the back, and they're talking about the quality of the blocking.

I'm tired of watching mediocre football, it's time to get rid of alot of these old slow players and bring in some young fast playmakers
