Canty Will Visit Redskins Today

Free agent defensive end Chris Canty will be on Daniel Snyder's private plane, flying to Virginia later this morning, and will spend the day at Redskins Park, according to league sources.

Canty is scheduled for a full day visit, with all the usual stuff (fancy dinner, courtside seats for the Wizards game - amazing how the Wiz always seem to be in town on the first day of free agency). Heading into free agency, Vinny Cerrato, the Redskins' vice-president of football operations told several people around the league that his goal was to re-sign DeAngelo Hall, and add one other player to the offense and defense. Those players could turn out to be Canty and guard Derrick Dockery, who also could be at Redskins Park today.

While the Redskins are interested in defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, their cap situation is very constricting and Cerrato has told several people around the league this week that the Skins are unlikely to be able to actually complete such a deal. With at least six other teams having significant interest in Canty, according to league sources, it seems unlikely that he would be coming here without investigating whether Haynesworth would be visiting as well.

Canty is expected to pull in a deal worth upwards of $8 million per season, with $15 million or more guaranteed.

1st!

Canty sounds like a better option than Albert. Canty can tip off our boys on Dallas plays as well. Im def. wanting Doc back! Haynesworth and Canty coming? Hardd to imagine doing that without screwing up the rest of the team.

Samuels, Dockery, Rabach, Brown or Moore, Willis/ 1st Rd. pick

Back-ups: Kendall (if he'd stay), Thomas, Jansen, Rinehart, and Heyer. Draft Max Unger or that dude from Arkansas to take the reigns from Rabach in a few years.

That O-Line, plus depth makes me pee.

Can I please get an amen!??! PLEASE!

I will asume the free agents you defined as " BOYS" , won't like that. Black men don't like to be called "BOY".

Question about Canty though-- how is he going to fit in?? I thought he was a 3-4 DE? Does that mean he'll switch out to OLB or DT? If he stays at DE, who does he bump out of place??

By my count, we'd be looking to have: Carter, Monty, Golston, Griffin, Evans, Daniels, Wilson, Jackson, Taylor, and then Canty. Clearly, 2-3 of these guys would need to go, maybe even 4 if they also somehow manage to get Haynesworth too.

Someone help a brotha sort this all out!!

Dude, stop overreacting. The Skins are my boys. It's not racial. Quit making a deal out of nothing.

mws, I guess Snyder just wasn't able to get the NBA and NHL to juggle their schedules in order to help him woo free agents.

TDawg, somebody a thread or two back said Canty might be able to play DT or DE in a 4-3... remains to be seen, but I guess our D coaches already have it figured out, if they're making him a priority target.

We shall see...

Hey Nate-- good hearing from you-- how's the new addition?

I hope if they throw the bank at Canty (instead of, or in combination with Haynesworth) that they drop Taylor, Griffin, and/or Daniels, if not some of those tweener speed rushers like Jackson or Wilson. Should be interesting, for sure, but I do hope that we lock in Dockery and perhaps Brown (Ravens) or Moore (Jets) at RG; intrigued by Willis at RT too, but would love to see Andre Smith drop to us at #13... man oh man.

Let's get hypothetical-- hey, its 3am and I'm drunk after all--
what if we get Haynesworth, Canty, Dockery, and another OLineman (like Brown, Moore, or Willis)? What happens to our draft strategy? We just resigned Hall, but it seems like in order to get all of the above we'd have to part with Springs, Taylor, and Griffin...

do we go CB, LB, RT?

If no Willis, I'd like to see:

1st: RT, Andre Smith (or best OT available)
3rd: C, Max Unger (or move up to get him in the 2nd)
5th: LB
6th: LB

Hmmmm?

Touche. It is pretty remarkable how the Wiz are playing at the beginning of free agency everytime. That being the case, I'm pretty stoked about the Caps...

We'll see what the Skins bring - I'm not convinced they'll get anywhere with this clown drew in charge...

Guess we can forget about Canty, Mike and Mike in the morning just reported A.Haynesworth is now a Redskin, deal consumated within the last hour, 7yrs 100 Million, wish we wouldn't have done it, but it's a done deal.

Yup. Just saw it on NFL Network. Haynesworth is a 'Skin. 7 yr deal with $41M guaranteed during the first 3 years. Total deal value is $115M.

So far the 'Skins have overspent on 2 FAs with questionable performance and character. Nice......

Why can't we set our sights on O linemen. i've read all the talk so far and did the coaches not see how bad they were this year. young big studs would be great. it would help the defense to play with a lead.
