Samuels Out With a Triceps Injury

Chris Samuels' return is doubtful. This injury could be the season, especially with right tackle Jon Jansen now out with a knee sprain, too. Reserve center Justin Geisinger made his debut on offense at left tackle and, as expected, gave up a third-down sack.

The verdict is clear and posted. This team just isn't very good.

Posted by: learnedhand1 | December 7, 2008 10:56 PM | Report abuse

Darn i'm the only one here !!!!!!!!

Posted by: Daggarforracialjustice | December 7, 2008 10:57 PM | Report abuse

There's no running game. Therefore play action will not work. Good grief!!

Posted by: ga8085 | December 7, 2008 10:57 PM | Report abuse

Go for it

Posted by: learnedhand1 | December 7, 2008 10:57 PM | Report abuse

Aargh, not the timeout! Just run the damn play!

Posted by: farstriker | December 7, 2008 10:58 PM | Report abuse

Does Zorn script the entire game and then never deviate to situation...

Posted by: chrislarry | December 7, 2008 10:58 PM | Report abuse

YOU WASTE A VALUABLE TIMEOUT WITH THAT MUCH TIME LEFT?????????????

IT'S 17-3 AND YOU'RE DEBATING????

He is trying to say that technology is makeing the game something it never was. If a guy losses the ball its afumble its not supposed to be review to the millimeter.

Posted by: Pleepleus | December 7, 2008 10:59 PM | Report abuse

They should go for the FG. They have plenty of time left in the 4th quarter.

Posted by: jiacinto | December 7, 2008 10:59 PM | Report abuse

Call gibbs, asked him which play to run ! Might just work, use him for something. Remember he's still on the payroll

Posted by: Daggarforracialjustice | December 7, 2008 10:59 PM | Report abuse

how about a nice 2-yard completion?

Posted by: davebutz | December 7, 2008 11:00 PM | Report abuse

We needed Hall to run that in. Can't leave it to the offense.

Posted by: Curzon417 | December 7, 2008 11:00 PM | Report abuse

Lh, 10-17??? They should punt!

Posted by: dealer1 | December 7, 2008 11:00 PM | Report abuse

Fabini is not active. Nor is Rinehart.

Posted by: CindyBoren | December 7, 2008 11:00 PM | Report abuse

Defense gets game ball so far....We are actually only down by one score.

Posted by: rickyroge | December 7, 2008 11:01 PM | Report abuse

Don't question Madden. A fumble is a fumble.

Posted by: austin987654 | December 7, 2008 11:02 PM | Report abuse

Heavy dose of McClain coming. Have to stop the run. Three and out is what's up.

Posted by: learnedhand1 | December 7, 2008 11:02 PM | Report abuse

As I posted in the last thread, not realizing there was a new thread:

Clutch.

Posted by: freakzilla | December 7, 2008 11:02 PM | Report abuse

The Ravens should go to the keel down offense, a turnover is the Skins only chance

Posted by: SwiftIT | December 7, 2008 11:02 PM | Report abuse

I was wrong here. They actually did something right. Now this is a game. Two Ravens turnovers brought the Redskins back. We need another INT or fumble.

Posted by: jiacinto | December 7, 2008 11:02 PM | Report abuse

Is there another turnover left in our D?

Posted by: Curzon417 | December 7, 2008 11:02 PM | Report abuse

We are going to pull this one away like we did against Dallas on Monday night in 2005. All the pretend fans will wake up in the morning and be shocked!!!

Posted by: BarackObama | December 7, 2008 11:03 PM | Report abuse

laron got us back into this game..now what are we gonna do!?

Posted by: ripmeast21 | December 7, 2008 11:03 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: davebutz | December 7, 2008 11:03 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: Realness1 | December 7, 2008 11:03 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: austin987654 | December 7, 2008 11:04 PM | Report abuse

Okay, how will get the turnover on this drive?

Posted by: farstriker | December 7, 2008 11:04 PM | Report abuse

McClain just ran through the defense.

Posted by: jiacinto | December 7, 2008 11:04 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: chrislarry | December 7, 2008 11:05 PM | Report abuse

that score was the most luck of all time. they run campell backword 50 yards then toss a softball toss up in the air and hope someone catches it. They look like women.

Posted by: jiacinto | December 7, 2008 11:06 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: chrislarry | December 7, 2008 11:07 PM | Report abuse

Worst challenge in history

Posted by: SwiftIT | December 7, 2008 11:07 PM | Report abuse

Okay, no time for the D to wilt now. Why even take a chance in wasting a TO by challenging that?

Posted by: ga8085 | December 7, 2008 11:07 PM | Report abuse

why would you challenge this!?!

WTF ZORN it's a timeout in the 4th quarter and you're losing by one score

I understand he was probably told it was a 100% thing, but the challenges don't always get overturned even when it seems a guarantee

come on...

Posted by: SwiftIT | December 7, 2008 11:09 PM | Report abuse

good challenge.... we need every yard we can get and most likely there wont be any other play to challenge the next 5 minutes.

Posted by: BarackObama | December 7, 2008 11:09 PM | Report abuse

still looks like we need another turnover here....highly doubt our Offense can put together a long drive if we can get them to punt

Posted by: kman2 | December 7, 2008 11:10 PM | Report abuse

You know, I turned off Steelers-Boys this afternoon after the Steelers turned it over on downs at the goal line, down 13-3 halfway through the fourth. And darned if the Boys didn't figure out a way to lose.

So I figger this one ain't over yet, either.

Posted by: farstriker | December 7, 2008 11:10 PM | Report abuse

At least we won a challenge for once.

Posted by: jiacinto | December 7, 2008 11:10 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: Curzon417 | December 7, 2008 11:11 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: JLR75 | December 7, 2008 11:11 PM | Report abuse

we need a friggin stop!

Posted by: rickyroge | December 7, 2008 11:11 PM | Report abuse

STDmore..... Baltimore is a piece of crap....

Posted by: BarackObama | December 7, 2008 11:11 PM | Report abuse

Looks like they are going to run out and weaken the defense.

Posted by: jiacinto | December 7, 2008 11:12 PM | Report abuse

Hmm 8 plays, 8 runs, may be we should have known?

Posted by: SwiftIT | December 7, 2008 11:12 PM | Report abuse

Posted by: ga8085 | December 7, 2008 11:13 PM | Report abuse

can we please lose this and dial up a RAVEN TD!!!!!!!!

Posted by: michael_b_clegg | December 7, 2008 11:13 PM | Report abuse

This happens all to often after a skins TD.

Posted by: Curzon417 | December 7, 2008 11:13 PM | Report abuse

This defense its unreal. They do it every game. They play well then at the end, the other team runs the clock out with ease.

Posted by: Pleepleus | December 7, 2008 11:13 PM | Report abuse

Well here is to watching the season melt away.

Posted by: jiacinto | December 7, 2008 11:14 PM | Report abuse

Any chance we can stop McClain?....

Posted by: fnralch | December 7, 2008 11:14 PM | Report abuse

not enough playmakers on either side of the ball

I haven't seen a sense of urgency in our boys in a long time

D is just worn down now, so late in the 4th and they've been carrying the team all damn year

Anyone remember when we passed on Gaither from Maryland. A local kid we should have known.

Never mind, it's over. Offically the season is over on one pass from a rookie QB. Nice call after bullying the D with the run with power runs.

Over mathced in everyway. D, O, SP, Coahces, FO, Owner. And us fans. Steeler fans took over Fedex and we have virtually no presence there.

Face it. We need a GM, and a rebuild mantra. Parcells where are you...

Here's an idea...can we get Shotenhiemer (sp) to be our GM? He couldn't coach, but he knew talent.

Posted by: Devo2 | December 7, 2008 11:18 PM | Report abuse

But Zorn should feel humiliated b/c his offense has regressed and gotten worse in EVERY phase as the season has gone on.

See you all later in the week or next week - won't be able to deal with the bench JC/fire JZ BS that will be up here this week. (When JC actually has the protection and time to throw the football - he gets some lovely receptions).

Just remember - we are not out of it. DAL and ATL both lost too - not where we want to be, but still doable - just need a little help. Just wish they would play with a little more heart and hunger.

See you all about 12 CST on Sunday...

that's all we need

Posted by: TheTruth11 | December 7, 2008 11:19 PM

Posted by: Poopy_McPoop | December 7, 2008 11:21 PM | Report abuse

I almost wish we didn't get that touchdown... it's like they give you hope to steal a win just to snatch it away.

God awful TD pass by Flacco, btw, that could have easily been picked.

I'm thinking long term. We don't need him or Malcom Kelly to get yet another setback. We need them to be ready next year at the latest.

2:12 left and they lolly-gag up to the line and don't run a play before the 2 minute warning - typical crap from these guys.

Let me guess - "We're really close, not sure what's wrong...." I do, it's the players and the whole atmosphere.

Dude, he has plenty of time to heal for next year. And we'll be treated to a whole new host of missed quick slants and deep routes that are not called for him.

It will be a sight to behold.

The penalties are beyond pathetic. Too many people on the line. WTF. I'm sick of it, and want to change teams but then would be labeled a bandwagoner. Besides, how was the defender down by contact on that last interception?

Posted by: JesusFreakKaren | December 7, 2008 11:24 PM | Report abuse

That was kind of a smart play by Randle El snatching the ball from Reed on that pick. Too bad is was all for not. Can't wait till next week, when the Skins will be in an all out battle with the highly touted Bungals.

Thank you Jim Zorn's high octane offense.

Posted by: Curzon417 | December 7, 2008 11:21 PM | Report abuse

CC has been in the game. The problem is that no one has informed Zorn that Cooley actually catches the ball. Seriously. Jla did a post about it. Zorn had no idea that Cooley has pass catching abilities.

I don't see how the problem is communication. Campbell is communicating beautifully with the Ravens defense....

Freaking idiots.

Posted by: Poopy_McPoop | December 7, 2008 11:27 PM | Report abuse

Ive been a redskins fan for over 35 years and i swear this franchise can't stop anyone when it has to be done. They always have one player fall asleep and the other team always finds out who it is and they always take full advantage of it.. The skins dont play on every down and until they get all 11 players in the game playing all out ever down they cant win.

Posted by: daddebig | December 7, 2008 11:27 PM | Report abuse

agree with Devo2. we're like 1-4 against the Ravens since they returned to the land of Baltimorons. even when we did beat them that one year, they turned around and won the frikkin Super Bowl. but nonetheless, to hell with the Crows.

This team is nothing but an overpaid, underproductive bunch of check collectors that have no HEART.
We should have NEVER FIRED MARTY SCHOTTENHEIMER. he had this team in the right direction - making all players EARN their roster spots.
He was our coach and SHOULD HAVE BEEN OUR COACH.
If we are going to stick with ZORN, I think we have to clean house get rid of the aging and see what some fresh legs can do. We need to win through the draft and home grown players - and not let those players such as ANTONIO PIERCE get away!!!
Our very 1st priorty should be A PASS RUSHING DEFENSIVE END & OFFENSIVE LINEMAN, LARGE RECIEVERS & a FRIGGIN POWERBACK over 230 pounds!!!!
Secondly, THIS IS NOT A PASSING TEAM...RUN THE F-ING BALL!!!
finally, Blache has got to go. someone once said that he was more viscious than williams. where I don't see the ferociousness out on the sidelines?? He reminds me of someafterschool substitute teacher thats been suckered into watching the detainees.
extremely dissapointed.

Our problems start with the owner. He set a lousy tone when he took over with his fast and loose signing of high dollar has-beens. Gibbs calmed him down a bit but the organization is dysfunctional at the base of the pyramid- no GM. I like the idea of bringing not-so-hot-Schott as GM. So we all go to bed feeling like shti. At least the Cowturds have been schooled by a REAL team.
Geez, I would love my kids to be able to experience the thrill of a super bowl win but I guess not.

Ah, 'Skins trying to squeeze in another penalty before the end of the game.

Posted by: Poopy_McPoop | December 7, 2008 11:29 PM | Report abuse

The munificent Jason Campbell, masquerading as a starting quarterback in the NFL, starts and ends the game with interceptions. In between, he musters a torrid Redskins offense into ten points, beneficiaries of defensive largesse. In the meantime, the rookie Ravens quarterback leads his team to a long drive in the fourth quarter, culminated by a touchdown pass ove the now supposedly great Rogers. 7-6 and going southward. It appears that 8-8 is the best the team can do, as the Eagles and Niners are now playing like they want to win and the Redskins now at the bottom of the NFC East. Well, there is always next year (the Redksins refrain).

Ravens' last drive reminds me of Dallas' last drive in their win. They just kept pound the ball and our D-Line couldn't do anything.

We need to fire Joe Bugle and get rid of our offensive line - actually use draft picks for linemen not for flashy dbs. Our line stinks.

Posted by: SwiftIT | December 7, 2008 11:32 PM | Report abuse

Zorn is discovering that you cannot call the same game week after week and expect ascending results.

As for JC, I've been a staunch supporter, but quite frankly, I don't see any animation from him, just shrugs and pained expressions after picks (which still isn't as bad as Romo, who puts on a goofy smile after he throws an interception or three).

It's also ridiculous that I saw Mike Sellers yelling (twice) at offensive linemen who missed blocks in this game, but I didn't see JC do it once.

Jim Zorn is clearly out of his element. He cannot get it done right now. Can he get it done in the future? Who knows. But the guy has zero ability (or even inclination) to make adjustments. It's beyond awful. He's an elementary coach in a professional world.

And beyond that, the entire team is built backwards.

A west coast team playing in east coast weather.

A team where the highest priority for rebuilding are the positions furthest from the line of scrimmage.

A rookie head coach with a veteran, playoff team.

None of it meshes.

Even if this team lucks out and gets help from multiple teams to get to the playoffs, they have no shot at beating anywhere close to elite defenses.

Posted by: spizzle | December 7, 2008 11:36 PM | Report abuse

where is the pride? the self-respect? the accountability for bonehead and lazy plays? i'd put it on zorn but we've seen too many coaches come and go over the past decade, some of whom had staked their careers on building character and playing mistake free football (gibbs, marty, etc.). the only constant variable has been the owner and front office. face it - the culture of this franchise is poison right now. and we won't see any change as long as the redskins remain insanely profitable and folks are willing pay $200 for an afternoon at fedex. it's time us disgruntled fans stood up and be heard. the best thing for this franchise would be a half-empty stadium for the final game against philly.

Posted by: thickman22 | December 7, 2008 11:36 PM | Report abuse

Goodbye Redskins and playoffs. What a bad performance by everyone. Can't say I didn't expect it though. Is anyone SO TIRED of Jason?? he'll never be anything but an average QB. I can still remember when we were 6-2 and in great position, now we are just freefalling and I don't know if this freefalling will end anytime soon. This team has no pride at all, Ravens were so much more intense than us. Heck, we could even lose to the Bengals next week, i wouldn't be suprised at all.

Some of these comments are hilarious. Flacco "led" the Ravens on that last scoring drive...Really?

Led must equal: Running the ball 11 straight times and then underthrowing a ball so badly that any other team would have picked it.

Flacco just put up a relatively sorry performance considering he was never even hurried...let alone sacked.

There goes the 11-5 season. Snyder should call Bobby Beathard and ask who they should hire after the Vinny fire. Zorn has forgotten how to attack. Flacco is better than Campbell already; played in a passing system in college; tired of the "JC played in so many systems" nonsense. All passing systems come down to this: See the field and throw it to the open guy like Todd Collins did to beat the NYG in NY last year. Get to the playoffs now.

We must now prepare to make the Bengals look like a playoff-caliber team next week by beating them (yes, I'm predicting a win, but wait until you read the rest) by the incredibly close score of 20 to 19.

Bet on it.

Posted by: MrRedskin21 | December 7, 2008 11:40 PM | Report abuse

why is everyone overreacting?
FROM DAY 1, the problem with this team has been lack of a DEFENSIVE PASS RUSH, and lately, we've realized that our Offensive line is getting OLDER EVERYDAY, more injury-prone, and less productive. There's no way you can tell me that this offense wouldn't be MUCH MORE PRODUCTIVE WITH A BETTER LINE, and that our defense would have MANY MORE SACKS AND TURNOVERS with a consistent pass rush from the front 4.
For those of you angered by Zorn's play-calling, take a look at what he has in terms of time to pass, lanes to rush.

Posted by: kman2 | December 7, 2008 11:42 PM | Report abuse

where are all the people who were ripping jlc a new one when he was pointing out the major flaws in this team? We all knew, or should have known that this team had issues coming in.

We had a qb who had never shown anything more than a couple flashes, an rb who is reaching the end of his prime years and who always seems banged up. An old oline, a coach with zero coordinating experience, no hint of a pass rush (did anyone believe jason taylor was going to do anything). A top corner who is always injured, another one who is always just good enough, except when it matters, and one who everyone thinks is better than he is because he can talk.

A recieving corp with one playmaker in moss, who lets face it, has had 1 really good year in his entire career, and then a solid pass catching TE in cooley. Everyone else is junk.

So the question is where do we go from here. You start with the lines, but pretty soon your going to have to replace portis, because once rb's hit that wall they become pretty worthless, you better hope that thomas and kelly pan out because that receiving corps isn't scaring anyone right now. the LB corps is very thin, fletcher is getting up there, washington is over the hill.... wow, that was depressing, i'm going to stop now.

Posted by: djnune03 | December 7, 2008 11:46 PM | Report abuse

I don't recall EVER, in 30 years of watching the Redskins, where an average of 4 defensive linemen rushed the QB on every passing play in every game for 13 games but almost NEVER get to the QB (we have the fewest sacks in the NFC, I think).

It's inexplicable. Are these D-linemen too small? Too fat? Too slow? Too weak? Too disinterested?

What the heck can it be?
