Hold up, I thought it was decided yesterday that Chris Samuels was an abject failure and had no future in coaching based on his one year as a volunteer consultant with the Skins. Huh.

I heard he's leaving because he got wind of a possible lawsuit against him filed on behalf of Danny-Boy.

At the risk of coming off as a scold, I object to the premise of the F-M-K game because of its base misogyny. But I wanted to point out that Janeane Garofalo is hot, hot, hot, now more than ever.

When ArtMonkToTheSticks was in Portland for a comedy festival thing a while back, we momentarily stood next to Ms. Garofalo whilst ordering drinks. Her total in-person hotness cemented the longtime crush I've had on her.

That is all.

That wasn't how I recall the convo. You got a link to that?

As an unpaid, volunteer offensive coordinator in an Alabama high school, it doesn't look like he could start much lower in the coaching profession, does it?

sween- Leshoure might be the 2nd RB off the board. You want to use our 2nd RD on a RB??

Posted by: Diesel44 | February 9, 2011 4:09 PM

Mostly yes, but maybe not necessarily at the #10 spot in the second round. I'm convinced that the first round pick should be one of the stud DE or 3-4 OLB candidates (to bookend with Orakpo), but that Skins will miss out on Von Miller ... so I'm hoping they can trade down a few spots and remain within range of the DL/OLB posse. If they can't, but instead get into the part of the first round that has top C/G candidates AND make that pick, then I agree that the second round pick at #10 should be the NT/DE rather than RB. But if they were unable to move down in either round AND able to get the top flight bookend for Orakpo in the first round, then Lashoure would cure alot of what ails us. [I admit that my thinking has been influenced by Moe's rap about just needing to keep the same O-line together for an extended period of time ... so I'm willing to concede that penciling in Rabach and Montgomery for another year is not necessarily the end of the world.] The move to add more offensive line coaching from a high powered running team would be consistent with Moe's rap plus a serious RB tandem like in Oakland or Carolina.

I'm not sure how to read this. My primary reaction is to think that Samuels wants to get as far from the Stain of Snyder as possible.

But the other reaction is that Samules really doesn't/didn't really know the style of blocking the Skins want to employ now.

... so...

Posted by: DikShuttle | February 9, 2011 4:41 PM | Report abuse

According to this here, Samuels' alma mater was consolidated with Blount High School after he graduated. So he's kind of returning to his alma mater to coach under a high school teammate... and it's a strong program in a state where that means something. Which seems kind of awesome for Samuels.

My read is that last year he was a coaching intern and now feels ready to be a coach ... and that a good way to become a coach is to start with young men who are motivated to win football games. [Well, win football games and get a scholarship to play football in college.] Then to move on to coach in college ... young men who want to win and get into the NFL. Finally, onto the NFL to coach young men ... who want to get paid ... and, in the best of all worlds, win football games.

In addition to missing the Dirty Sanchez angle that MColeman51 was working, did I also miss the part about the Jets signing Nick Novak?

To me, Nick Novak is on the AP (All Pierce) Skins team with Pierce himself, plus Leigh Torrence, Marko Mitchell, Marcus Mason, and Byron Westbrook (who is now technically ineligible to be on the Skins All Pierce squad).

I don't even know what she looked like way back then, and I still consider it an epic missed opportunity.

Browns cut Shaun Rogers today.

Upside - Experienced 3-4 NT who can be dynamic when motivated.

Downside - 32 years old w/ shaky health; has spent more time being a fat slob than a motivated dynamic player.

My prediction:
While we could use him and Anthony Bryant to string together some kind of 3-4NT rotation if we can't land Phil Taylor, it isn't worth it. He follows his mentor and fellow fat-slob Rob Ryan to Big D where Jerruh is convinced to overpay him and support his eating habits.

No matter who we let go, they will prosper elsewhere it seems. There's just something about this team that saps players of that competitive edge. Maybe it's the fact we go to the playoffs once every seven or so years. That's right isn't it?

I'd bet it's the lack of accountabilty, responsibility, the favoritism, the lack of discipline, the turnstyle of coaches and schemes, and the sinking of the salary cap on junk players that we've had over the last however many years. That's enough to dishearten anyone.

Just saw this myself...mostly agree with your take, but I am pretty torn. We need a NT like BAD...but this guy is probably a smaller scale version of AH (in severity, not size). He'll obviously cost waaaay less, but I can't see Shanahan setting himself up for more misadventures with training camp conditioning tests.

Here's hoping we figure a way to land Phil Taylor so it's all moot...

scamp, Wishbone, that's precisely what I think we're all hoping Shanahan can turn around. A culture of accountability, from which flows a new tradition of winning.

Just typing it out gives me chills... though I'm not sure if it's because the whole notion is so appealing -- seeing the Skins return to that place of wholly earned esteem they proudly occupied for so long -- or because the whole notion seems so far-fetched in a team owned by Dan Snyder.

It's so ridiculous that a bunch of fools on here have become so used to the way things have been run around here for so long that when someone comes in with a belief in his system and expects everyone to buy in instead of dogging it and adjusting his schemes to suit the whims of a couple d bag athletes they call him "arrogant" and "ass hole." Ih8,

Some people have been kicked in the balls so long that it has become comforting to them. Change, any change, is to be feared and derided. Some people are just that foolish...that's why we have people wcalling for Shanny's head already, they're used to a new coach every couple of years. The prospect of success frightens them...just like in their lives...success equals responsibilty and that is way too much for a lot of folks.

Snyder suing AGAIN.

February 9, 2011 9:22 AM

Cadwalader Sued Over Advice on Bank's Fee in Six Flags Proxy

An investment vehicle closely tied to Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder has sued Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft for $13 million over advice it gave on an investment bank's fee during a proxy fight at Six Flags Inc. in 2005.

The malpractice lawsuit, filed Monday by Red Zone LLC in New York state trial court, followed an October appellate ruling that the company owed UBS A.G. $8 million for its work on the Six Flags matter. While Red Zone said its lawyers at Cadwalader had claimed a contract they secured would limit the fee to $2 million, it did not, the complaint said.

Snyder became chairman of Six Flags in 2005 following a contentious proxy fight in which Cadwalader partner Dennis Block represented Red Zone, Snyder's Virginia-based investment company. Snyder left Six Flags' board in May, nearly a year after the amusement park company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Cadwalader in a formal statement said the "lawsuit brought by Dan Snyder is both disappointing and without merit."

The firm added: "Our advice to Red Zone regarding its negotiation of the financial arrangement with its investment banker was appropriate and correct. Red Zone was successful in the proxy contest for which we were engaged and it is unfortunate that events subsequent to the proxy contest resulted in a dispute between Mr. Snyder and his financial advisor. We look forward to a speedy resolution of these matters."

Red Zone in its own formal statement noted that neither Snyder nor any other Red Zone member was a party in the case. The company, represented by Jeffrey Jannuzzo, said in a formal statement that the complaint quotes Block's own deposition testimony from the UBS case "that the agreement he and Cadwalader negotiated would cap Red Zone's liability, and the court ruled that it failed to do so, as a matter of law."

The statement continued: "The case is as simple as that, and we are confident that we will prevail."

According to the malpractice complaint, Red Zone hired Cadwalader in mid-2004 to advise it on its investment in and possible acquisition of Six Flags. Block, one of the top rainmakers at the New York firm and a veteran of mergers and acquisitions, was the partner in charge of the engagement, the complaint said.

Just read on The Bog that Banksy wants to add 11 pounds in the offseason.

I'm really looking forward to watching him play again.

4TDs next year 2KR 2PR

Oh and for a bonus 2 offensive TDs

Even after gaining 11 pounds he will still be the lightest guy in the NFL.

He will still be a blur, don't worry.

This is a GREAT article that highlights many of the issues we see here constantly. Many people on here are completely clueless talking out of both sides of their asses and this article explains perfectly what I mean:

As for my opinion on the content of the above article...can Portis and Daniels, keep Moss, can Rabach. I was hard on Lickandstickher but NOT because I thought Doc was any better. I'm fine with replacing Maake. I don't want Carlos gone and I would be fine with letting Barnes begin the takeover for Buchanon. Buchanon was inconsistent...he made some great plays and had some very good stretches but he cost us dearly as certain points. Youth m ovements are great but you can't cut EVERY older player all at once...that would be foolish. A youth movement doesn't mean ditching all of your veterans...only the inneffective ones.

Scamp

I say keep rogers for cheap, forget buchannon, let maake suck somewhere else.

Waybach needs to go, since hes the best line caller we got let him fill samuels coaching spot, put lichtembutthole at center n then grab 2 o line either FA or draft, maybe capers comes into the mix.

Moss should stay here because as of now hes our number one guy. Sure he may wanna go to a winner but why would he leave a place where hes there stud to go somewhere as there third option. His value is at its peak here stuck with us

Scamp, GREAT posts there my man. As many folks as we have up here clamoring for rebuilding, some of those same people will be the ones screaming to replace guys like Gano and Lichtensteiger and Sundberg. And if not them, twice as many others will. I'm for a rebuild, so long as they stick to the plan and don't start seeking out shortcuts like they have over the last decade.

That said, rebuilding doesn't mean ridding yourself of EVERY veteran presence on the roster. While I'd like to see us get younger, I don't think bringing Moss back at about $5 million/per is unreasonable...nor do I think having guys like Daniels and/or Portis on the roster holds you back from rebuilding so long as they're not asked to carry prominent roles.

Tampa committed to a rebuild, but they still have Ronde Barber. So did the Packers with Charles Woodson and Donald Driver on the team. Rebuilding is more about a commitment to establishing a nucleus to build around for the long haul, not dumping every single player over the age of 30.

Posted by: brownwood26 | February 10, 2011 5:52 AM

I agree. I could go either way on Moss: (1) Dump him because he's old; (2) Sign him because he's productive. Either could be right. It all depends on how he fits into the larger plan for rebuilding.

Problem right now is that with transactions suspended, no one can tell what the Redskins' Master Plan is. I don't doubt that they have a well-thought-out plan because that's what Mike Shanahan is about. I have less confidence that it's "the best plan" because Mike Shanahan has a checkered past in personnel selection, and his results with McNabb and Haynesworth do not inspire confidence. But I still give him the benefit of the doubt.

We just gotta wait and see on Santana, and waiting patiently is one of the things that the RI claque does badly.

Posted by: beep-beep | February 10, 2011 6:06 AM | Report abuse

Right Beep...I'm thinking the suspended activity is more because owners don't wanna pay guys that won't be playing this year than it is because they CAN'T do it. You can sign players after March 4th, I just think they're waiting it out to see what the new salary structure is going to look like.

I just hope they get this CBA done sooner rather than later...otherwise, this is gonna be a REALLY boring offseason...

Cadwalader Sued Over Advice on Bank's Fee in Six Flags Proxy

Snyder said, "It's not about the money. I couldn't care less about that. I'm donating the money to the Simon Weisenthal Center for backing me on the Anti-Semitism stuff."

"No, this is about the insult. They said I was too short to go on the scarey rides at Six Flags with my wife who is taller than I am. I demanded an apology and explained that as the owner I could go on all the rides I wanted. When they refused to apologize I had no recourse but to sue. You would have done the same thing."
