Clinton Portis medically cleared to participate in Redskins minicamp
This is a corrected version, indicating that there are no contact drills in minicamp.
Running back Clinton Portis, who suffered a concussion in Week 9 and missed the remainder of the season, has been medically cleared to participate in the Redskins' first voluntary minicamp, which continued Saturday at Redskins Park. And, more importantly, Portis has been cleared to take contact -- although there will be none of that in minicamp.
"We were able to get some of the best medical experts across the country to analyze him, and he's been cleared for practice," General Manager Bruce Allen said while addressing reporters at the complex during practice. "It's really a patient ... you have to be patient with a head injury. That's one of the commonsense lessons you're going to learn. It's patience."
Doctors prescribed corrective lenses to help Portis with vision problems that bothered him after he received the season-ending hit on Nov. 8. Portis, who rushed for a career-low 494 yards with a four-yard average last season, is expected to compete with veteran running backs Larry Johnson and Willie Parker to start this season, and he is physically sound, Allen said.
"The Redskins have been at the forefront of" concussion awareness, Allen said. "But the league did institute new guidelines last year and they've been implemented and all the teams have been following it."

Not really sure how Cooley is a cancer??
Haynesworth, on the other hand, is a big, fat, disgusting, out of shape tumor.

Don't know how much he's asking but I'd be hammering on that guy before I started yapping about Snyder putting Sean's locker on display on the Club level.

Who cares what you'd do? Hammer away on that little tool of yours if you like, couldn't care less what you'd do!

Yes, it's definitely the people that post on RI that cause the team to lose. That makes almost as much sense as the double post move.

I'm not minimizing the effects of having a concussion, but has one person ever milked a concussion more than Portis? How long has it been, 6, 8 months? He's just getting clearance for this tough mini-camp? If Zorn was still coach he'd be milking this til the end of training camp.

Concussions affect everyone differently. If im CP you take your time and make sure your right. He may be out of football all together in the next 3-4 years, putting him in his early 30s. He still has a whole life to lead. If he was milking it, so what. What did he miss? Id rather have a guy be 100% and confident that he is ok than have a guy who may be close to 100% but has doubts about if he is still injured. If he puts up 1200 yds this year would you care how long he was out?

From the absurdly front-loaded nature of Haynesworth's deal, to the scouting reports which suggested he wasn't a player who could be trusted with such a landscape-changing contract, there is very little sympathy in league circles for Washington's self-inflicted problems."
==============
Remember that Snyder is not the most popular owner among his peers. If they see him squirming.. they enjoy it. They also let him squirm when they wouldn't give him a 3rd round pick for JC a year ago before the 2009 draft when Snyder wanted Sanchez.
Snyder blew up the unofficial head coach salary ceiling/cap when he quadrupled the existing HC salary average by what he paid Gibbs 2.0. Since that Gibbs 2004 contract its been a trickle effect of escalating coaching salaries not only for Head Coaches but the assistants who agents immediately bench marked the Gibbs 2004 Contract.
The 31 other owners (especially small markets) havent forgiven or forgotten.

Hanesworth is a beast when he is in the game. Suddenly, with him on the field, the Redskins have 2 guys with double digit sack totals. Not all his credit, but more goes to him than all the haters want to give him. Allen/Shanny hopefully do put the "best players on the field" like they said. Albert is the best defensive player on most fields.
If they were to move him anything LESS than a straight up trade for the #2 pick (so that he would be replaced by Suh and in addition ensures that Okung would be there at #4) would not make this team better. Even then, the Skins would only hope the #2 pick ( Suh and the guaranteed 25 to 40 million they would give him) is even close to being the player Albert is.
But, I like what the new guys have done so far. So, we will see.

IMO, They should try to work it out with big Al and let him play! Also give Marko a chance to get the ball!!
Posted by: vexed50verizonnet | April 17, 2010 6:43 PM | Report abuse
Big Al won't be traded unless the Skins are willing to accept a 4th round pick for him. He'll be back with the Skins for 2010.
Same for McIntosh - nobody is gonna offer more than a 5th round pick for him.
The Bills might offer a 3rd for Campbell if they fail to get Clausen or McCoy in the first two rounds.

There is no chemo for that Portis...not even the prayers of die hard Skins fans. Dan destroyed this team. The new color should be Burgundy and Black...The gold is all in Dannys and AL's pockets....They are all laughing when you pay $9 for MGD.

How the hell is Cooley a cancer?!? If those coaching staff and front orifice clowns can at least put together a half-arsed O-line in front of McNabb, he and Cooley ought to light up a few defenses. One of the few bright spots in this soap opera is the probability of those two doing some good things together.

Some of you Skin fans are complete idiots and ignorant jackazzes,Portis has done nothing but been the ultimate professional since Shanhan became coach..Get off of his jock this is a new beginning and he is here participating in these voluntary workouts and he has kept his mouth shut although he has every right to say what he feels....

It's to shut up and let'm play ball. We can still improve the O'line beyond the 1st round. The fact is that our D was solid last year. We were 4-12 last year due to the O'Line. The fact is that Campbell did not have time a great QB would need and CP was banged up badly. Shanny has now upgraded the QB, stabilized the RB position and now will do the same for the O'Line. The bad news is we still have the Danny and will be 6-10 at best. Damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Skinsneedagm - You almost sound like you know what you're talking about. But question for you? How much did Steve Spurrier make per year? To be a HC? And how much did Joe Gibbs make per year? To be HC and Mr. Football at Redskins Park? Get the facts straight. You sound just like Jason Reid, another guy that can't seem to get his facts straight.
