Clinton Portis inactive vs. Eagles, but Brandon Banks will play

By Paul Tenorio

As expected, running back Clinton Portis was not active for Monday night's NFC East matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, while rookie returner Brandon Banks will play.

Portis has been sidelined since suffering a severe groin tear in Week 4 against the Eagles, an injury that was expected to keep him out four to six weeks. This Sunday marked the six-week point; however, Portis suffered a setback last week, experiencing discomfort and swelling after practicing.

Ryan Torain, who injured his hamstring in the Redskins' loss to the Detroit Lions before the bye week, is expected to start for the fifth straight game. Torain was limited in practice for most of the week.

Banks, meanwhile, underwent surgery on his knee on Nov. 3 and was expected to miss two to three weeks. Banks practiced in a limited role late in the week and Shanahan said the undrafted rookie would be a game-time decision.

The diminutive returner has been a major boost to the Redskins' special teams. In the first eight games, Banks ranked second in the league with 234 yards on punt returns and third with a 13.8-yard average. Banks's 27.3-yard average on kickoff returns ranks seventh in the NFL.

Running back Chad Simpson, cornerback Kevin Barnes, linebacker Perry Riley, guard Derrick Dockery and defensive linemen Anthony Bryant and Jeremy Jarmon were the other inactives. John Beck is the third quarterback.

The decision to deactivate Simpson means the Redskins will again go with just two running backs on the active roster: Torain and undrafted rookie Keiland Williams.

The Eagles will be without two starters: defensive backs Nate Allen and Ellis Hobbs, who are among Philadelphia's inactives. Defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley (elbow) and guard Max Jean-Giles (concussion) also will not start.

Other Eagles inactives are Chad Hall, Daneil Te'o-Nesheim, King Dunlap, Reggis Wells and Garrett Mills. Mike Kafka is the third quarterback.

I wonder if taking a pain shot before the game ever helps skill players.

Look for Banks to continue to put the Skins in good field position.

Will there be a sideline show between Shanny Jr., pantamiming a pretend-banching discussion followed by laughter and man-hugs like the one between McNabb and T.O. a few years ago after a sideline lovers' quarrell?

Jawarski is a big, smelly fat guy now and he looks like he just ripped a fart and Gruden can smell it.

$40 million guaranteed to a 34 year old QB who's having the worst year since he was a rookie and who still can't run a 2-minute drill?? LMAO!!!

Next time little Denial Snyder wants to spend some cash maybe he should just buy some more jumbo videoscreens. McNabb is done!

Peace, Y'all

The opening TD was a punch in the mouth. Now we look like that dude Pacquiao destroyed Saturday night. I know there's 4 quarters, but we came back with a 3 and out...Torain out, Williams looking meh.

Philly is playing like it's a SuperBowl.

Manny Pacquiao is in Philly tonight.
