Coin Toss: Does Dallas snow hurt chances of a Super Bowl at FedEx Field?

By Washington Post sports editors

Dallas has received another five inches of snow since last night, further paralyzing a city that has been battered by its worst snowstorm in 15 years. While the weather is supposed to ease in time for Sunday's game, morning flights into Dallas have been canceled, and this week's festivities in and around the city have certainly been affected.

With next year's Super Bowl slated to be played in Indianapolis and the 2014 game scheduled for the Meadowlands, we certainly haven't seen the last Super Bowl in a cold-weather site. But do you think the inconvenience of this week's snow in Dallas will make the NFL think twice before awarding another Super Bowl to a cold-weather site, such as Washington?

Why is it a coin toss? That suggests no thought should go into answering this slew of questions.

Posted by: Alan4 | February 4, 2011 11:59 AM | Report abuse

packers 19 steelers 12

probably a lil more scoring, but that's the prediction

Im going to highlight 2 positions on the field that are going to make the difference in the super bowl and which is why i think we should use our 1st 2 draft picks on these positions

the steelers center pouncey is out, so there will be a back up, the packers have raji, a DT and that's the difference in the football game right there

Center and D-Tackle, and that's why we need serious upgrade at those 2 positions b/c in the biggest game of the nfl season, the difference in the outcome of the game will be b/c of the C and DT positions on the field, i think raji is going to have a field day creating all sorts of trouble for the steelers and that's why i think the pack will win

of course the steelers d is niiiice, which may of course swing the tide for the steelers

C and DT are very important and we need to upgrade immediately, of course the QB position is serious too and if my prediction is wrong it's b/c the QB made the difference, but that's the match up right there

F both teams though

I hope the cowboys stadium holds up better in lousy weather than their practice facility did.

Snyder is such a little beatch. Danny holds his intention to rebuild a positive public image with such covetous fervor that it rivals the lunacy of muslims who kill people for "defaming" muhammad. Why is danny making this article into some sort of antisemitic attack? It seems like a shiity cheap shot at this little paper to imply that they are attacking the jewish faith and not some meglomaniac who is a failure as a pro football team owner.

"Does Dallas snow hurt chances of a Super Bowl at FedEx Field?"

Not at all...what hurts the chances of a Super Bowl at FedEx Field is that A) it's a sh*tty stadium and B) it's almost 15 years old. Oh, and I'd bet the obstructed view seats won't help either...

No because the flaming 'libs (pun intended) will all argue the 'global warming' angle and then threaten to boycott or assassinate the character of anyone who stands in the way of what they want.

I think the issue is less about the weather anyway. FedEx field is a 'jungle jim' of football stadiums. It's a stripped down, entry-level 3-series BMW and the house that 'Jerruh built is a blinged-out CLS 550 AMG on 'double-deuces with a 14k gold badging package.

You think people talk bad about Snyder now? Wait for what they say about him if all the world's media descends upon 'Raljon'.

Not sure why ONLY the 'horns' are getting pub. The WCP also added a hand-drawn mustache and a pointy chin-beard/goatee.

See, you have to 6 degrees from Kevin Bacon your way into understanding how this is racist. The Nazis were in world war II with the Jews and drew horns on them. Danny is in with the jews (Definitiely not a scientologist) who were in world war II with the nazis who drew horns on them. The nazis also used to fry the Jews like bacon. Therefore Kevin Bacon is a Nazi.

Not trying to be a blog cop, but the Snyder/City Paper discussion is persisting and much more lively over at the Sports Bog. [Also, the Haynesworth Roid Rage incident is dominating the blog linked in the previous thread.]

Today's RI discussion is getting traction about the Skins WR corps, WR needs, and WRs generally around the League ... and hopefully about whether monk scored any of the leftover ear tube nasal mist out of the trashcan.

What is really intriguing is that the dude was still in the area when you figure that long ago he would have packed his bags and left for Tenn to be with his toys - power boats, Ferraris, ATVs, etc. Does this mean he was in the DC area b/c he was working out daily at RP? After all, BA did say that we shouldn't count out Haynie being back in a Skins uni in 2011.

So we can't draw horns on photos of Jewish folks, can't utter the words 'fried chicken' when speaking to African Americans, can't express our frustration with Japanese Beetles in the summertime, can't discuss midget racing in the presence of little people and cannot, I REPEAT cannot even use the word 'cancer' without genuflecting to everyone within earshot who has known or was related to someone who died of that dreaded disease.

I swear to God this country needs a serious enema. Even Barrack Obama checked "black" on his census form this year when he proclaims his pride in being biracial.

Even that's BS. Did anyone see him toss out the first pitch on opening day in Nationals park?

He's definitely white.

The questions becomes if the Skins will be better off going for a #1 or a #2 type of WR. The James Jone's, Lance Moore's of the world will help compliment the group now. The VJak's and Sidney Rice's of the world would lead the group to the next level. IMO the Skins could get by with Moss leading the charge again for two years while the Skins look for a #1 via draft and grab complimentary players via FA.

They should have either renovated RFK or built one similar to it, bigger isn't always better! It's obvious why JKC built this stadium: his wife said "I want a bigger one" and he thought he was talking about a stadium. A hearing aid could have prevented this whole thing!!!

They should hold Superbowls at:
1) Each and every team site in an agreed rotation, or
2) Only at a neutral site/facility affiliated with no team that is smack dab in the middle of the country and is an open air/grass facility with no luxury boxes or suites.

I personally like option two better, because football should be a game where the elements are a factor for the play of the game AND for the spectators.

Unfortunately Jack Kent Cook was the reason for the crappy stadium. There was a rush to get the place built before he died - true story. Kind of like the little/smaller pyramids in Egypt. FedEx is our 'pyramid' I guess.

I guess this is a private school thing but we had a 'bathroom monitor'. These are the kids that end up getting jobs as Compliance Officers and go on killing sprees (i.e. B.T.K.).

Them and those future doosh bags wearing those blaze orange belts - "Patrols".

You can. All you have to do is go to the Warsaw sewage treatment plant.

I like how you say we don't know all the facts and defend Albert as the likely victim of a money grab, yet you very quickly proclaim the civic driver's case looks weak with the lack of said facts.

I am pretty sure you are just playing the disagree for the sake of disagreeing role here, but you are ridiculously off base. How can you not agree that it was a horrendous decision on Al's part to exit his vehicle and confront the guy?

ESPN reports the civic driver was taken to the hospital with a contusion on his face. So I'm sure you'll say he inflicted that on himself.

Had this been McNabb or Portis I'd say sure give him the BOD....but come on now, Albert has a history of this! He paralyzed a guy 2 years ago for Christ's sake!

WAKE UP!

You think that whenever Fat Al plops down on his toilet to dump-out he just straight up breaks his toilet seat?

That fat bastard.

Why is it a coin toss? That suggests no thought should go into answering this slew of questions.

Were coming to you live from Beautiful Landover Maryland!
Ha. I think the fact that our owner is under 5'2 and that we have a racist name and a terrible stadium probably creates more of a hurdle.

Just for starters:
1. Unlike Dallas, its ALWAYS frickin' frigid here the 1st week of Feb.
2. FedEx has been a work-in-progress since it was built; it will never be a marquee venue.
3. Its in the middle of nowhere.
4. The "nowhere" mentioned above happens to be in Dodge City..er..I mean, PG County.
5. There's no upscale dining or lodging anywhere close to the stadium.

I'm sure that reports of Haynie's assault and Danny's lawsuit during SB week when the NFL spin machine is in hyperdrive have brought a smile of contentment to the mug of Roger "Goody Goody" Goodell.

Haynesworth is just setting the bar for us every way he can.

Franchised DT's will make a killing this year because of his whale-shaped contract.

Now he's setting the market for people who get whaled in the face.

What we need to do next is figure out a way to get Danny to give Haynie the finger. Danny gets punched, then gets his signing bonus back. Haynesworth's next career move should be MMA.

dcsween you don't remember that? Albert's ferrari was going upwards of 100 mph and clipped another car that almost killed a 25 year old, and left him in a wheelchair (don't know if he still is).

Charlie Murphy would have never gone out like that. Buck Nasty, Silky Johnson, Pit Bull and 'Beautiful' along with Fyuk Yoo would have put the ultimate player hater beatdown on Haney and his hateful self.

The Super Bowls should only be held in California, Florida, Phoenix, Houston and New Orleans. These are the only places you can guarantee there will be no snow in the ground Super Bowl week. The NFL should also end its 10 year boycott of California. The last California Super Bowl was held 8 years ago, when it was 80 degrees in San Diego at kickoff and shirtsleeve weather all Super Bowl week. John Madden said that they should have all the Super Bowls in CA. The NFL should give up its experiement of holding Super Bowls in cold weather cities. The game would have been cancelled if it was scheduled for Chicago, Detroit or St. Louis. While the original NFL championship was held in cold weather, back in the 60s it was just another game but now it is a two week extraganaza that should only be held in places where there will be no snow on the ground.

Seems like the places that have had the worst issues weatherwise have been the *southern* stadiums whose municipalities are ill equipped to handle bad weather. It may be better to hold it in a Northern stadium with a dome.
