Daniel Snyder responds to Emmitt Smith Criticism

You probably saw yesterday comments that former Dallas running back Emmitt Smith shared about Redskins' owner Daniel Snyder.

Well, Snyder responded today in a prepared statement. He didn't lob any bombs but tried mixing a bit of humor and a subtle jab.

"I applaud Emmitt Smith's induction into the NFL Hall of Fame and, from what I understand, he's a heck of a dancer," Snyder said. "I think we've only met once briefly at an NFL function in 2000. I will
say, however, that I like to think of myself as being a compassionate person, except toward the Dallas Cowboys."

aren't we all less compassionate towards dallas

I'd say "First" but that's Sooooooo Juvenile.

Posted by: TheCork | March 6, 2010 1:11 PM | Report abuse

I really hate being medium and losing to those guys (Dallas) twice. I hope Shanahan is not going to be medium about it.

Posted by: periculum | March 6, 2010 1:14 PM | Report abuse

Good thinking cork.

Yer way to much of a grumpy old f*ck to do anything close to remotely resembling juvenile.

And yer slow, too, LOL

Posted by: SkinsfaninKaneohe | March 6, 2010 1:15 PM | Report abuse

And then there's the fact you could be secondl. So that's why i never do it.

Smith should send Snyder a big Bouquet of Posies for helping draw publicity to his fading NFL Broadcast career. Publicity is publicity, and you'd think Snyder, the "Marketing Genius" would know that.

Instead he leaps at an opportunity to put Smith's name before the public and simultaneously to lower himself to a Neener-Neener level with a former COWBOY for God's sake.

Say, you don't suppose Snyder isn't as bright as he thinks he is, do you?

Posted by: TheCork | March 6, 2010 1:15 PM | Report abuse

Good response. Let Bruce and Mike build our team and let the Cowboys keep talking

Posted by: SkinsfaninKaneohe

I know it's early out there in Tsunami-land, but Sheesh.

Thanks for providing the LOL after your own lame comeback, so people will be prompted to laugh. An insult from a guy who's the internet equivalent of the doofus who laughs at his own unfunny jokes? Ouch.

Seriously, next time don't bring a rubber knife to a machine gun fight, so even a grumpy, slow, old guy like me can top you without breaking a sweat.

I used to think Emmitt had class. Now, not so much. He should have looked in his own back yard first before bashing Snyder. Yeah, Danny thought he could just buy a team, and it blew up in his face royally.
But Jerry Jones dumped his best friend Jimmy Johnson because he wanted all the credit for those championships. How compassionate was that Emmitt!
Oh yeah, he basically forced Parcells out after Bill rebuilt the team into a contender because of the same thing.

Classic case of you shouldn't throw stones if you live in a glass house!

Houston needs a CB.

'Los for Slaton heads up? Just throwing it out there.

Barnes can hopefully step up in coverage, we know he brings the lumber in run support, and I bet he can catch.

Posted by: SkinsfaninKaneohe | March 6, 2010 1:24 PM | Report abuse

I'd like to see Emmit say that in front of 50 year old, 4.3 40 Darrell Green.

Posted by: periculum | March 6, 2010 1:24 PM | Report abuse

This is like when you complain about your family and someone outside the family starts to chime in - you can't say that about our family, only we can say that about our family.

The fact that a Cowboy loved beating our 'Skins is about a revelatory a statement as saying the Sun is yellow. Duhhhh. And we always love beating your Cowflops, Mr. Smith.

Honestly, arrogance? Hello Pot - meet Mr. Kettle. Jerry Jones has perfected the art of owner arrogance. Dan is simply following in his footsteps.

Leave it to a Cowboy to lob stones from inside the gaudiest glass house ever built.

Go back to palookaville, Emmit. Dullass is a perfect city for the likes of you.

In all sincerity - bite me.

Nothing lower than a Dallas Cowboy 'cept their fans. Snyder should have just smiled and turned over the ass whoopin to Lavar - afterall, Lavar is owed a favor and he's already sent one Cowboy packing and running off to his owner with a career in ruins.

Hopefully the Dallas games will once again be about kicking cowpuke arse and watching Jerry Jones' facelift sag.

Mike Triplett, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune, reports the New Orleans Saints have re-signed SS Pierson Prioleau to a one-year deal. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed

Posted by: skinfanman | March 6, 2010 1:38 PM | Report abuse

for 3 outta da past 4 seasons the 49ers have been hovering around .500

they are seriously a QB away from contending in the playoffs year in and year out

However, Pat Willis says they are wasting their time bringing in David Carr for he is no better than any of the 3 currently on the roster.

Willis should put down the crack pipes!

In fact the last time the 49ers made the playoffs they had a Pro-Bowl QB in the name of Jeff Garcia. Not a coincidence!

the winner of the NFC West may possess a 7-9 or 8-8 record this year...the best QB in that division is Matt Hasselbeck and he won't make it through the whole season.

gotta love it when a Pro-Bowler from an opposing team is satisfied with Alex Smith as his QB!

The Broncos have agreed to terms with NT Justin Bannan(notes) on a five-year contract, reports indicate.

Some expect Bannan, 30, to become the team’s starting nose tackle. Ronald Fields(notes) started at nose for Denver last season and wore down along with several other defenders toward the end of the season after getting off to a good start.

Bannan is heading into his ninth NFL season. He spent the previous four seasons with the Ravens after spending the first four years of his career with the Bills. It’s a homecoming of sorts for Bannan, who played at the University of Colorado.

Emmitt Smith's life is now facial hair dye commercials and an interview in Slam Magazine. Snyder (and his PR staff) should have either ignored the comment altogether, or issued a statement saying "he was a great player and is entitled to his opinion, but I will not get into a war of words through the media" or something to that effect. He has no need to defend his level of compassion to Smith or anyone else, and should have stayed out of this altogether. Instead, he lowered himself almost to Smith's level.

Emmit gets quoted now? I'd rather hear from a 3-toed Sloth than a dumb-arse like Emmit Smith. What a joke. "From what I understand"? Great quote. Hey Emmit, Snyder is still involved with the NFL, you're a laughing stock of an analist. Good luck defending that one.

EMMITT WE AS REDSKINS FANS HAVE BUT ONE THING TO SAY TO YOU STFU! BTW, DANNY'S OUR OWNER, AND WE BASH HIM NOT YOU. SO FAR HE'S DOING WHAT HE'S SUPPOSED TO DO AS AN OWNER. LAY LOW UNTIL THERE IS A CHECK TO SIGN. ADDITIONALLY, COWGIRLS SUCK! SO DOES YOUR OWNER AND GOD FORSAKEN STADIUM.

Surprised Emmitt could master the English language long enough to say anything.

Dan is a Dbag to be sure but if Smith has met him once then he should be more measured in his critism. The pride thing is pretty obvious but compassion is a bit tougher to judge. Dan has done some pretty nice things over the years and who knows if he did them for pub. Hard to tell and I follow the guy, I'm sureSmith has no idea.

"I mean, ask Chris Samuels. His brother gets in a car accident in Tampa, Dan flies Chris down to Alabama to pick his family up, fly to Tampa to be with his brother. Ask Todd Collins. His wife is having a baby on a Friday and Joe Gibbs comes down and says we've got to get Todd up to see his wife so he can be there for the birth. Ask Robert Royal during Katrina, the family lost their house, lost everything, Dan flies down, picks the family up, gets them out of there to save their lives.

"The Sean Taylor thing, flies the team down there, Sean Taylor's family up here a couple times. Ask Jon Jansen, doing the right thing about flying him in to ask him to retire, flying he and his wife in to do it properly. Ask Brian Schottenheimer, after he had fired Marty Schottenheimer, he had had the same thyroid cancer that Dan had, Dan hooked him up with his doctors and sent him to the doctors at Mayo Clinic.

Posted by: jgarrisn | March 6, 2010 4:26 PM | Report abuse

Sorry guys but Emmit said what most people outside DC think. He turned a great franchise into the laughing stock of the NFL. Just because he spends a lot of money doesn't mean squat in the W column.

It certainly appears like "the rivalry" is back on, atleast from the Redskins end...Perhaps, the son of George Allen is pulling the strings on this one. Just beat dallas.

Dooms Day for Emmitt and Dallas come Hall of Fame Weekend.

Tix for the Love Them Hogs induction are still available. Party at the moon tower!

There's nothing more I hate in the Sports world than the Girls but... Emmitt is right, maybe not about his compassion but he's right to shed him in a negative light. The more bad publicity this guy gets the quicker he might get "it." He's been feeding us BS for 11 years and most people on here are still eating it, all the while our pockets get considerablly smaller and his consderablly bigger. I wonder if the fans in Oakland sound like we do? But its all good because he buys us shiny new cars that turn into lemons. Our Free Agency splash was made the day Skelator was signed as our coach. I hope he can do what he did with TD and Elway but Im not so sure, the guy did a whole lot of nothing as soon as Gary Kubiak left and that guy turned Houston into a pretty good team. He may not have pulled the wool over our eyes with a player signing but he may have gotten us with a coach.

It's pretty obvious what's going on here. Smith is mentally a cowboy for life. The hiring of Shannahan a proven winner who's spent his brief time away from the game dissecting the entire NFL, reunited with a back who put up serious numbers, serious commitment toward the obvious weekspot the O-line, plucks the offensive coordinator of the number 1 offense in the league and coupled with Bruce Allen and Snyder's bucks, there's one operative word here....FEAR.

Did Snyder just display a little bit of personality and humor? I like Snyder's comments and I think it's obvious the guy is compassionate. Sure he's a cut throat businessman but which millionaire isn't? Isn't jerry Jones charging people money for standing room in his big ass stadium?

by far the best 'quote/response' that has come out of Redskins PR in 10 years...whoever wrote that should get a raise! and in searching for compassion from DS one has to look no further than how he dealt with the passing of Sean Taylor.
