Daniel Snyder unveils new video scoreboards, other upgrades to FedEx Field

So the Redskins' new video scoreboards may not technically be bigger than what football fans see in Cowboys Stadium. But that doesn't mean they're not better, said Washington owner Daniel Snyder.

"This is as good as you get quality-wise," Snyder said Sunday afternoon at FedEx Field. "These are sharper definition than you'll see down in Texas."

Just five days before the Redskins play their first preseason game, Snyder led a tour for media outlets to show off the new video scoreboards and other stadium upgrades. Snyder has dropped about $20 million this offseason to spruce up FedEx Field, highlighted of course by the pair of scoreboards, each measuring 100 feet in length, in either end zone.

Snyder also took reporters to the club level to visit Sean Taylor's locker. The locker was relocated from Redskins Park and re-assembled on the club level for permanent display. Team employees put the locker back together just as Taylor had left it, and it's encased behind protective glass. While many fans don't have access to the club level during games, the locker is expected to be a regular part of stadium tours.

(If you're curious what the locker and new scoreboards actually look like, be sure to check back here later. We'll have visuals to share.)

Upgrades to FedEx Field have been in the planning stages for 1 1/2 years. Construction began the day after the 2009 regular season ended and work will continue through this Thursday night. Snyder said everything should be ready to go when fans start filing into the stadium Friday night.

"It's a process, for sure," Snyder said. "We're hoping all will go well on Friday."

Team officials initially weren't sure just how big of scoreboards they could install at the stadium. "I was like, 'What do we have to do? We have to move this and build that?" Snyder said. But they were able to put up the two boards and not affect the stadium's capacity.

The team has also added club level party decks above the scoreboards, renovated the team's video control room -- a NASA-like area that will operate the boards -- added more than 1,000 cash parking spaces ($40 per car, located at Brightseat and Landover Road). The team has also added a text message traffic alert system.

"I think one of the things that takes place when a stadium is now a decade old is that it needs to be upgraded," Snyder said. "When it was first built, high-definition didn't exist at the time in this capacity. We said, 'Hey, this is a real opportunity,' so we upgraded it."

The team will continue testing the scoreboards all week, running nightly rehearsals at FedEx Field. Snyder hopes the overall gameday experience will be competitive with the top venues in the NFL, particularly that one Jerry Jones runs down in Texas.

"This is a little clearer than his," Snyder said of his giant video scoreboards. "I think this is a secure location, not above your head. I think this is good for all 90,000 here. You don't have to be on the sidelines to see it."

While Snyder hopes a Super Bowl in New York helps Washington's chances of someday hosting the annual championship game, the new scoreboards certainly don't hurt either.

"It's still a new stadium. I'm most proud of the fact that it's still a great stadium," he said. "It's one that we're building a tradition [around] and starting it [with] Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan. So we've got something to build here."

F Dallas. I wouldn't be upset to see Romo come away from his series or 2 with a broken face.

Snyder can put a gold dipped big screen in FedEx it still sucks and always will.

"You don't have to be on the sidelines to see it".... You need a Jumbo screen to see anything that happens in the stadium anyways, This is nothing but a bigger revenue device for The Danny. Tear it all down, move it where it's accessible and start over.

I have to disagree with Snyder's assertion that FedEx Field is a great stadium. While it was awesome to see a home game last season for the first time in six years (vs. the Bucs -- yay, an actual win!), it's not a great place to watch a game. It's not HORRIBLE, but I'd only give it a 6 out of 10.

Sixty-some miles up the road from me is Qwest Field, which is a GREAT STADIUM, at 2/3rds the size of FedEx. Having been present at the Skins' last three road games vs. Seattle, I can say that it's a tough place for opposing teams to play, especially in the playoffs. Even November of two years ago, when Seattle was pretty awful, and the Skins were in full collapse mode, Seattle only lost by managing to want it less.

I never got to see a game at RFK, but since Qwest is about the same size as that storied place, I think I have an idea of what it must've been like for teams to play on the Skins' home turf in the pre-FedEx days.

freakzilla; RFK was awesome, especially during the playoffs. No way the opposing team could hear the quarterback. The whole stadium rocked with people stompng their feet and then there were the temporary seats that would move up and down with the crowd. Those were the days. I watched a game at 3 Rivers in Pittsburgh and it was similar to RFK too. Great tailgating at 3 Rivers. I don't know if they still do it at Fed Ex, but I found the noise they produced on the PA between plays (that stopped when the other team reached the line of scrimmage) kept the crowd from making real noise.

The worst thing about FedEx is that there's just nothing around it. It could be great if they could do some kind of development around there with some hotels, resteraunts, bars, etc...

"Daniel Snyder unveils new video scoreboards, other upgrades to FedEx Field"

Lipstick on a pig..

I've been to RFK and FedEx field countless times and there is nothing that compares to the gameday experience of RFK.

I hereby make an amendment to RETURN To RFK STADIUM

That place rocked and if they just updated the bathrooms and the players locker rooms it would still rock ! Its right in D.C. and...well, I just dont see why it couldnt be done ( who cares that it doesnt hold 100 thousand people ? ! )

RFK, RFK, RFK, RFK, RFK, RFK, RFK....

"Sixty-some miles up the road from me is Qwest Field, which is a GREAT STADIUM, at 2/3rds the size of FedEx."

at 67,000, it's more like three quarters the size of FedEx. The old RFK was basically 55,000. The year the Skins lost that playoff game, the Hawks were 7-1 at home, something like 3-5 on the road. Classic home field advantage.

But as far as the noise quotient, Qwest is nowhere near as loud as RFK could be. And the stadium doesn't jiggle when the customers start stompin'.

Like or don't like FedEx Field, I can respect your opinion (I personally think it's OK. Far better than Veterans Stadium in Philly which was easily the worst I ever been to). However, shut up with the blame game thrown Snyder's way. FedEx Field is Cooke's baby not Snyder's. In fact all Snyder is guilty of is improving it immensely since taking it over from Cooke Jr. Snyder has made mistakes but he inherited the stadium situation.

Nowhere near comparable to the earthy, downhome feeling of RFK..If they paved over the French Quarter, they'd hype it also as better than Disneyland or Key West..Its just too commercial, expensive and slick, like "civilized" Florida or a shopping mall..

I say "Keep The Skin" when boiling down tomatoes, unless your e using insecticide..The "Skin", Mr. Monsanto, has gone through millions of years of evolution, fending off the environment and accepting the good stuff in..Keep The Skin in your tomato sauce, they'll say it stops skin cancer on the tv news in a few years..

Can't wait for the game tonight- will be great to see football finally. Even though it is a meaningless game it will take on meaning if Dallas gets the crap beat out of them. Particularly if Romo gets a spanking.

There is no way to match RFK for a Skins fan. Went to many games there. When those metal stands were banging and clanking it was unbelievable. Watching Riggins and the Hogs was the experience of a lifetime. I wish all of you could have experienced it.

Guys and Gals,

My high level take aways from Saturday's practice:

-I'm digging Shay Hodge and Brandon Banks. Hodge beat his man fairly consistently in one-on-one routes and had some nice grabs; Banks is as quick and shifty as advertised and seemed to handle both punts and passes pretty well. Would love to see him seize the PR/KR role and maybe develop into a nice slot option in years to come.

-CBs did not look too good aside from Hall. Pains me to knock a Terp but Kevin Barnes did not look sharp in coverage drills, Rogers got burnt with regularity, and Tryon was OK at best. Didn't get much of a look at Buchanon but hope he steps up.

-Fred Davis was all over the place. I'm really expecting big things from him this year- K. Shanahan should be able to exploit mismatches with him and Cooley, I see 60 catches/750 yards and 6-8 TDs as very attainable.

Here are some stats that make my opinion a FACT!
Most consecutive games played(287 & counting). 1st all time in pass attempts(9,811 & counting). 1st all time in passes completed(6,083 & counting).1st in Total passing yards(69,329 & counting). Most 3,000 yard seasons(18! & counting. That's 5 more 3,000 yard seasons than the runner up). 2nd in most 300 yard games (61 & the leader has 63 so he will break that this year in a Vikings uniform.) Tied for 1st in longest pass completed (99 yards) Tied 2nd for having the most seasons leading the league in TD passes (3). 1st in TD passes(497 & counting). 1st in 4+ TD pass games in career(23). 2nd in 4+ TD passes in a game for a season(5). 2nd in most consecutive games with a TD pass(36). & His 503 sacks(2nd all time) & 317 ints(1st all time), Just adds on to the "Longevity Legacy" of the NFL's Iron man. He's Cal Ripken Jr Mixed with Albert Puljos. Forget about him being the greatest Quaterback ever, this guy may be the greatest football player ever.

p.s.Emmit Smith & Jerry Rice are very arguable but thats it.

Huh? BF has been very durable, which has enabled him to play a lot of games, thereby accumulating a lot of records and stats. First of all $8.00 less per ticket than up the road in Baltimore and less than nine other teams in the NFL. The Redskins average ticket price is middle of the road with respect to the NFL (11th) so it is more a product of the popularity of the NFL than Daniel Snyder. Further, the Cowboys charge twice the average amount the Skins charge.

I truly think Dan Snyder wants his team to win, and he wants his stadium to be the best, and he wants to run the classiest organization in sports, and he wants to be the most well-liked owner in sports, and he wants his franchise to be the most well-respected in sports.

He is not just in it for the money.

That just makes his utter and complete failure on each and every one of those goals all the more stunning and indicative of his total inability to successfully run an NFL franchise.

I am not trying to be flip, but are you being serious? Favre is no doubt among the greatest QBs all-time but far from the consensus best. And there is absolutely no arguing that Jerry Rice is not only the greatest WR of all time but by a wide margin. His individual stats are so far beyond the next guy that it is almost comical - something like 500 more receptions that the next guy (I think Marvin Harrison) and miles ahead in yeard, TDs as well. Oh and he has 3 rings. If anyone in your post is in consideration for the greatest football player ever, it's Jerry Rice and not Emmit Smith or even Favre.

If that f***er fake BBC filmmaker was anywhere near me , I'd have smashed his exploitive stupid commodity spectacle face in, I swear to gawd, I'd do it twice..Anyway, couldn't post on the Nature site because it was too convoluted, f*** "Nature" sponsored by Shell/Exxon/BP d***s anyway..Bengals should threaten for the AFC championship anyway...Too early in the pre-season to get a clear read on the 'Boys, but Romo was using his TE pretty effectively..grrrrrrrrr...

My biggest gripe with FedEx is the traffic, which I'm not sure they can do anything about unless they build more roads.

Last year, I parked in one of the new lots that was constructed. After the game was over, I think I sat for 2 hours just waiting to get out of the lot. If it was quick and easy to get to and from the stadium, it would make the experience a lot more pleasant.

I think that the new video boards are gonna go a long way towards making the actual game experience a lot better. Of course they won't help much if you have a coveted "obstructed view" seat, but it's a start

Sure did. 2nd team All-Pro in 2002. If you're comparing this with Favre, #4 was not 1st or 2nd team All-Pro last year (though he did make the Pro Bowl).

About Favre: a great QB, but about as prone to lose a particular game for his club as he was to win one. A lot of winning QBs have been that way, however.

Posted by: Samson151 | August 8, 2010 9:27 PM | Report abuse

All due respect, there is no real debate on Favre being the GOAT. By most any expert's account, Jerry Rice is one of the top 5 players ever, at any position; many lists do not even have Favre in the Top 10. Here's a poll ESPN did 5 yrs back that has Rice #2 behind Jim Brown (although I'd argue Rice ahead of him); Favre did not even receive votes

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2152421

p.s. after his final games in '08 and '09, we all know Favre is a goat, if not the GOAT

most would argue that QB is a more difficult position, sure. I wouldn't disagree. But I'd argue that greatness is first and foremost individual accomplishment, with team accomplishments also being a large if secondary consideration. Rice dominated his position like nobody ever has at any position. He had 22,895 yards receiving; 2nd best (Bruce) is 15,208. He has 207 TDs; Emmitt Smith is 2nd with 175. He caught 400 more balls than the next best guy. And he won three Super Bowls. Favre is at the top of most QB stats lists, but his career QB rating is not even top 5. He won one ring. And he has thrown the most INTs in leagues history.

I'm not saying Favre isn't a great player. But if you think he is a better overall football player than Jerry Rice than you do not know football so well. I know it's not excatly apples-to-apples, but it's really not a debate among experts (not that I am one)

Hello Gillette Stadium Foxboro Massachusetts or hpw about the lovely location in the Meadowlands New Jersey. Both are easily worse.

Posted by: croftonpost | August 9, 2010 1:01 AM | Report abuse

I could care less if the Redskins played at FedEx Field, RFK Stadium, or even a high school field with bleachers. All I care is that they win, darn it!

Posted by: redskins5926 | August 9, 2010 1:19 AM | Report abuse

Senators and Secretaries of State and Presidents of the United States used to blow JKC to get a seat in his box at RFK. Excuse him if he incredulously and impulsively said FU to some lady wannabe politician who dared to hold out on him for a new stadium in DC.

Posted by: SkinsfaninKaneohe | August 9, 2010 3:12 AM | Report abuse

But dammm RFK was the caca. I remember after one 4th quarter come back win(wish i could remember the team it had to have been in 82 or 83), i gave a kind of victory "hooot", and was quite pleasantly surprised as it began to reverberate far and wide louder and louder amongst the throng walking down the ramps.

RFK had a dangerous dark underbelly, you had to have your street wits about you, and it was no place for foreigners trying to cheer for a team not wearing Burgundy and Gold. That's what i really loved about that place.

Posted by: SkinsfaninKaneohe | August 9, 2010 3:32 AM | Report abuse

DEFINITELY loved RFK. Parking in the grass and trees next to the river, tailgating and tossing the football... best experience possible.

The stadium kinda sucked, from a "nice stadium" point of view, but it had character. Lots of it.

And seemed it was just easy to get up and move to the lower levels whenever you felt like it.

It was smaller, but intimate. And it had DC oozing out of every crack. Opposing players could hear me yelling things like "you're gonna Fing die, now, beatch" just before kickoff.

Of course, first time I went, there was some "family" type people in front of me, watching the game on a portable TV. They didnt like my cussing, they didn't like my threats to the opposing team, and they really didn't like it when I spilled a full beer on Daddy's head while celebrating an interception.

What can I say? I woulda hated me, too.

But RFK was amazing. FedEx is like being in a hotel. RFK was like being at home.

Posted by: Thinker_ | August 9, 2010 3:53 AM | Report abuse

Nice analogy, hotel v home.

If you scored a nosebleeder on the street... and were by yourself, it was free reign all over the entire place. I used to "walk the boxes" and have looked the aforementioned Mr Cooke square in the eye as i perused the field through the doorway of his box. What to do? It was first down at the 50. Didn't hang there too long, ya had to keep moving, and he was starting to sport the "WTF is this kid and why is he standing outside my box?" vibe. Ha! Hail to ya, Mr Cooke.

Posted by: SkinsfaninKaneohe | August 9, 2010 4:56 AM | Report abuse

Goodnight/Good Morning SkinsfaninKaneohe. Your day is ending but mine is just beginning, my friend.

Here's some analysis on the O-line from Keim over at the Examiner...the Artis Hicks breakdown kinda supports my assertion that we're better off getting an upgrade at guard so that we can move Hicks out of the lineup and into a backup role at tackle:

Artis Hicks

Hicks’ big issue is standing too upright after the snap, allowing defensive linemen to gain leverage. At tackle, where he worked in the spring, he can afford to be a little more upright. But inside he’s typically facing shorter players. The only problem with that theory is that 6-foot-6 end Adam Carriker often is lower than Hicks during their occasional matchups. “At times I still have trouble with it,” Hicks said, “being able to anchor down and get my hands on guys and firm up the pocket. I’m trying to get it taken care of now so it won’t be an issue.” Another issue? His long arms are better suited for tackle than guard, where he has less time to react to the oncoming rush.

Jammal Brown

Brown is expected to resume practicing Monday after missing the past four full-pad practices because of a sore hip. He underwent surgery on his left hip last year and as a right tackle, he pushes off his left leg at the snap. That has caused extra irritation. Both Brown and coach Mike Shanahan termed his sitting out as precautionary, especially given his surgery. “It’s normal soreness,” Brown said. However, it still bears watching.

Will Robinson

Robinson, who entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2008, has worked as the No. 2 left tackle and performed consistently. He typically has a strong base and his hands are fairly solid. If nothing else he’s worth developing to possibly be the Redskins third or fourth tackle. Robinson played in one game with Washington last season and spent 2008 on injured reserve with Seattle.

There is no significance to the architecture of RFK. Yes it is in DC, and most of us prefer that. However, you can believe that ALL of these fond memories of that DUMP have one common thread. Winning. If the Skins spent the next 10 years in the playoffs at home, won 3 SBs, etc. OHHH, how Fed Ex would suddenly take on a charm...

Posted by: Club320 | August 9, 2010 7:12 AM | Report abuse

For those of you debating the stadiums, I liked RFK just as much as the rest of you and, I agree, FEDEX is a giant vaccuum cleaner trying to suck your money out of your wallet wihtou so much as a thank-you. Face it, we're stuck with FEDEX for a long time. Snyder keeps sinking money into it because he has no plan to leave any time soon.

But let me say this, it is better than it could be. The newer stadiums are all about taking every last cent from your pocket before you leave. The Giants stadium is part of a mall complex. So, it's all about greed and nothing about the fan. We should be happy Danny is spending money on big HD displays instead of angling to build the "Redskins Mall" in Bumfrak, Virginia.

Posted by: RedSkinHead | August 9, 2010 7:18 AM | Report abuse

RFK was old and antiquated, but it had character. And it literally rock when it needed to.
FedEx Field is not a great stadium by any means. It was built on the cheap. I’ve been to many other football stadiums and FedEx is definitely in the bottom for game day experience (traffic, parking, venue, product for money, etc.). I went to the Meadow Land’s to watch the Redskins beat the Jets. The Meadow Lands are very similar to FedEx Field only older. Unfortunately it was much better run operation. FedEx JumboTron’s are more like MicroTron’s. They are a joke!

Thanks for the Keim update. Funny he mentioned Hicks struggling but made no mention of his potential replacement, Rinehart. Robinsons's development is intriguing because it gives them another option at a position where they desperately need some depth. It would be nice if Capers could make some strides toward winning the other backup position and then the team can give up on Heyer with confidence that they have some young, developmental players as options.

I am totally not in favor of putting any of these guys on the developmental roster. They would be scooped up by another team in a heartbeat. The developmental roster is a place for players who are not yet ready to play in the NFL and Robinson/Capers sound like they are ready for primetime, even if it is in a backup role. Perhaps that is where we will find the other two offensive linemen the Redskins drafted, because I have heard no noise from their corner.

HA! I love how everyone keeps mentioning the "game day" experience. Like your going to an amusement park. I've been to plenty of places to see the Skins. And my "experience" was SOLELY based on whether they came away with a W or an L...

What you fail to mention here is that the "gameday experience" is more than just watching the game...as it stands, you'll spend at least 3 hours getting ready for the game beforehand (and that's an ultra conservative estimate) and about another 2+ hours getting out of the stadium and going home (depending on where you live, yet another conservative estimate). So that's a bare minimum of 5 hours getting before/after a game you've only spent about 3 hours watching. So if you're going to essentially give the Redskins an entire day of your life, you should at least get something more than a low-scoring football game in return.

There's nothing the team can do about it now, but there's no excuse for having a team in the metro Washington area without nearby access to the Metro. The traffic alone is a complete and total travesty...

RFK memory...NFC championship game vs. vikings. I was there, had almost the same view as the clip below. Place erupted after the play, couldn't hear yourself think. When I looked up, I honestly thought the place was coming down...the lights were bouncing up and down like it was an earthquake, and the edge of the roof they were attached to looked like they were made of cardboard.

Best game I ever went to...

I don't mind the team trying to make money, but when it costs you three hundred dollars to do the whole game experience, it is just too much. What's a beer at FEDEX now? $9.00? $9.00 for a cup of Coors Light? And the food is pretty terrible when you consider the prices. There are several seats where you really cannot see the entire field. The parking fees are just about hosing the fans. Like I said, I don't mind someone trying to make the money, but I at least like to be led to believe there is some value to it.

most would argue that QB is a more difficult position, sure.

I know it's not excatly apples-to-apples, but it's really not a debate among experts that I am one)

Co-sign.

The answer is "Jerry Rice", and it doesn't matter what the question is...unless the question is something like "Which RI poster is the biggest scratch-n-sniff doushce of them all?". Then the answer is "Cork" or "Chia Pet" or someone like that.

Whoever is making the case for Farvrveverve is simply arguing a position value - QB vs. WR - and that's not relevant.

Think about it this way. When you are talking about "Who is the greatest QB ever", there are a handful of candidates in the discussion - Montana, Brady, Marino, Elway, Favre, etc.

Same for "Who is the best RB ever" - Jim Brown, Emmitt Smith, Walter Payton.

When you ask "Who is the best WR ever" there is no discussion, no debate. Jerry Rice has so definitively blown away all of his peers that no one could ever piece together a sane argument otherwise.

In football, the answer is always "Jerry Rice".

The FedEx - RFK discussion is moot.

No matter who many "improvements" they make inside of FedEx, it will NEVER compare to RFK, b/c the issue is not what is inside the stadium (though a winning football team would be nice), the issue is what is OUTSIDE the stadium - where is it located? what is around? do I have to waste a half-tank of gas standing in a line of cars off Exit 16 on 495...that sort of thing.

In about 5 years every season ticket holder will be staring at some sort of PSL invoice to help pay for the new retractable roof, 100,000 seat stadium in the district. When the transition from RFK to FedEX was going down, a letter was sent to the season tix holders promising that they would receive seats with a "comparable" view of the field in FedEx relative to those that we had at RFK.

In RFK we had seats lined up between the 30-40 yard lines.

In FedEX we had seats with a diagonal view of the 5 yard line.

When we called the tix office to ask them what the dilly was, they said we could get seats back at the 30-40 yard line, IF we bought into the "Tailgate Club" which was an extra $50-75 per tix to eat dry burgers and baked beans in a tent before the game.

So, yeah...in a way we were forced to buy food there...

I told you all when you traded for him that MCNABB IS DONE! You only trade a QB within your division when you know that he can no longer hurt you. Looks like Philly one-upped you before the season even started!

And what? You think FedEx is a great stadium? You seem to be playing devil's advocate, here. Let me tell you, the best stadiums are where there isn't a bad seat in the house, they go out of their way to keep it clean, and if you want a burger and a beer, you don't have to spend a small fortune for it. I am only sorry that there is not a bona fide arm league system in the NFL, because I would hit those games far more frequently (I used to live in Richmond, Virginia and I loved going to those Richmond Braves games). I think the NFL has gotten too big for itself. They struggle to deliver a product with value to the regular fan. I don't bother going to NFL games anymore because of the unbelievably poor experience I had at FedEx two years ago. Granted, I live in Syracuse now, but I would still take a mini-vacation to see a game at RFK. FEDEX? Forget it.

"They haven't even played a preseason game."

The 1st half of the jets v. redskins preseason game is the one that'll be must-see-t.v..

Until then, preseason football is musty t.v..

Last night, each time I turned from the Yanks-Sawx game hoping for real football on NBC, all I saw were penalties, poor play, no stars, guys mailing it in, and Cris Collingsworth blabbering aimlessly like a coked-up chick I'd like to slap.

And to think, that's what football fans were aping for all summer.

A singular hope I have is that the league and players' union come up with a plan to lengthen the regular season by playing only 2 preseason games.

The players want to be paid for the 2 additional games while the owners know that they will only make more money than than can stand from a longer season.

Fans want real football played by guys going all out, and will pay to see it.

It's a situation where everybody wins, why is the obvious benefit so hard to obtain?

Teams could go back to controlled scrimmages in early August to prepare.

Controlled scrimmages: Oooops....that's what preseason football games already are.

I'm not normally one to defend anything about Dan Snyder or FedEx field, but the beer prices are pretty much in line with every other entertainment venue I've been to in the last decade. Ever been to Merriweather Post Pavilion or Nissan Pavilion (now known as Jiffy Lube Live)? The beers cost eight or nine dollars there, too. The solution is pre-gaming it.

On the other hand, the awful location, narrow seats and ridiculous height of the upper deck are things legitimately worth complaining about. Going to a game at that miserable stadium is a true test of one's passion for the Redskins.

d. Does D Thomas show any sign of much improved play?

e. Is T Austin more of a polished receiver than, say M Kelly at this point?

f. Does it look like L Alexander/A Carter will be liabilities in coverage at OLB?

g. If Willie Parker is indeed on the cut list, which young'n--Williams or Torain--is not?

When this subject was in the news a few months ago, a Redskins spokesman said that the team is contractually obligated to remain at Fedex for something like 20 or 25 more years. While contracts can be broken, Maryland and PG county ponied up millions of dollars in infrastructure improvements during the stadium's construction. I would be absolutely stunned if the contractual language binding the 'Skins to remain at Fedex isn't iron-clad. I'll bet the "over," way over, unfortunately.

Wanna at least try and keep the trash talk on the field between the hash marks? I guess not, ONE playoff victory in the last 15 years has the ability to make you STFU about what actually goes down on the field.

Irvin, you're every bit as idiotic as the man for which your handle is inspired...let's do some math that's so simple, even a retarded Cowdung fan can understand it:

Playoff Wins in the last dozen years:

Redskins - 2
Cowboys - 1

Your mere presence on a Redskins blog on the heels of our acquisition of McNabb and Shanahan shows how much you're scared of what we'll do in the next year or two. So don't worry about what we're doing here...just go put a pistol on layaway so you can take the appropriate action once your precious Satan's Team chokes in the playoffs AGAIN...

Or if it will be a pill she swallows.

a. Is McNabb's accuracy improving as the practices go on?
b. Does Rex Grossman look like a more than capable backup?
c. Who wins a spot on the roster: R Bartel or J Beck?

Posted by: gimmesummoe | August 9, 2010 9:06 AM | Report abuse

a. don't know but sure hope so. never the most accurate guy. not terribly concerned with that- he's a consumate professional, he will be ready.
b. Questionable at best. Please stay healthy, #5
c. I wish we kept them both and cut Grossman, honestly. Bartell looked pretty good to me Sat...but I def trust Shanny knows JUST a bit more about QBs than me. BTW- hasn't he traditionally kept only 2 QBs? I'd hate to lose Beck and Bartell...
d. YES
e. I think so...but who knows- Malcolm couldn't find the practice field with a map and a GPS so not sure what he's got.
f. Isn't Lorenzo an ILB? I thought Orakpo and Carter would be outside? In any event, I'd say "yes" for LA, but he is a true baller and I'm sure he will work his tail off to adjust to LB.
g. I hope we keep them both, but we cannot lose Torrain. I really think he may be Portis' successor.

It's the classic "small cock syndrome"...just like how guys with small dicks buy these expensive sports cars to help chicks forget about their baby dicks. Same with Dall-ass fans--they brag about their shrine to Jerry Jones they call a stadium since they won't be playing (or winning) any playoff games in it...

Posted by: brownwood26 | August 9, 2010 9:45 AM | Report abuse

gimmesummoe, Notorious_LMG,
Carter and Lorenzo Alexander are both outside linebackers. In Haslett's scheme, from what I understand, he intends to use them more as run stopper/pass rushers and minimize the time they spend in coverage. You could kind of look like them being a fourth defensive lineman (think right defensive end) but playing off the line of scrimmage. Occasionally, they will drop into coverage, but the ends in Blache's scheme occasionally dropped into coverage, so I am thinking for all of the noise about the 3-4, the front seven are not really going to be doing much different than what they did last year, with the one exception being a lot more creative blitzes.

It's not 1992. John Riggins, Russ Grimm and Art Monk Are NOT walking thru that door folks! It's called inflation. It's also called basic economic supply and demand. Skins have a huge fan base, therefore they can charge more. In addition, if they were STILL in a 55000 seat venue, they would probably be charging MORE! SHEEESH!!!!

Since it is a RARE occasion, I will take the opportunity to give kudos to Dan Snyder for the treatment given to Sean Taylor's locker.

As far as him continuing to compare what he's done in the stadium to what Jerry did in his, I quote the great Liam Neeson from his role in Taken: "This isn't a d*** measuring contest, Stuart."

People don't care if it's "better than", they just care if it's good and a good value.

Fed-Ex is not a pleasant place. But it supposedly has a better screen than the Cowboys do. I find it more than a little amusing that Cow-pie fans are already talking about winning a SB in their home stadium.

It's amazing what confidence ONE playoff win in the 21st century inspires. With the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man as Dallas' head coach and Tony Homo choking only a little less than Brett Favre, you'd think retarded Cowgirls fans would be hoping to double their playoff victories this year to a seemingly unattainable....TWO.

Seriously Dallas fan? I mean, really? You want to rip on 'Skins fans yet you live here and still have half the amount of playoff victories this century that the awful Redskins do. You know that right? I mean, I know they grow 'em dumb down there, but you know that 1 playoff win in 14 years is akin to underachieving right?

I can't wait to see Fat Albert fall on Tony Homo so hard he poops his panties. McNabb will dissect the Dallas D and Portis will knock D-Ware on his arse at least once on a blitz pick-up...

BOOK IT.

There's an easy solution for that: GET OUT!

Seriously...there's nothing more pathetic than a Cowdung fan showing up to a Redskins blog talking sh*t.

Oh wait...yes there is.

A Cowdung fan who thinks that Jerrah Jones is in some way better than Dan Snyder.

You know the difference between the two? Jones bought a team pre-free agency built almost exclusively on that absurd Herschel Walker trade. Snyder bought the Skins during one of their worst skids in franchise history.

Both spend more money than anyone else in the league and both don't know what they don't know. I mean, Jones as the GM/Owner? Because he played a little college ball? Laughable. And it's chief among the million reasons your team won't win jack sh*t. Ask Parcells...who's won literally EVERYWHERE else outside of Dallas.

So take your punk ass and your dated and moot arguments elsewhere. I hear pedophiles are always looking for some Dall-ass fans to commiserate with...

True statements. Snyder inherited the stadium.

But he's not without blemish, either. I can think of one major stadium sin: obstructed view seating. That's a Snyder creation. The constant ads, refreshment prices, etc., are an annoyance for sure, but I think those are curable by winning games. But selling seats where you can't see the whole field? Come on.

Cosign. The best thing about RFK was the team that played there. And when the 'Skins start winning again, the whole "game-day experience" will seem much better. The crowds will be louder, there should be a smaller percentage of visiting-team fans present (as more season ticket holders actually use their tickets), and we won't mind as much that FedEx is not Metro-accessible, and that, from the 400 level, the game is a rumor. Winning is a great deodorant.
