Daniels Opts to Postpone Surgery

Defensive end Phillip Daniels said this morning that he suffered a full tear of the biceps tendon in his right arm during Sunday's loss at Carolina. Doctors said the injury would require surgery, but Daniels isn't ready for that.

"Instead of having surgery, I'm opting to go ahead and play, finish my career and then have it after," Daniels said, pointing out that the end of his career is still a few years away. "So everything's good. I can play with it."

He hopes to play this Sunday against Kansas City. Doctors told him the surgery would've sidelined him for five to six months, which would've surely ended his season.
"I don't have five to six months," Daniels said. "I need to help this team now."

Daniels says he was told that he doesn't risk further enjoy by playing with the tear, though he could lose some strength.

Stud move. Maybe that will provide a spark.

I hope he can be effective with it. It won't do anyone any good if he is only a one armed tackler.

Let's hope they start to win... Snyder and Cerrato have a lot to answer for.

Play Jarmon, I love Daniels toughness but we are serious need of a youth movement on this team and this is one of those opportunities. I'm not saying Daniels can't still be effective but I question the ability of a DL who only is playing with one arm. Jarmon has looked good and made plays so let's get him in there. The best thing that can happen to the Skins right now is for some more of these old guys to get hurt to force Captian Jackass(Snyder) that we need younger hungrier players.

Can Daniels block?

Old players get older in a hurry don't they?

This is fortunately an area of decent depth for the Skins. I thought Golston, L. Alexander and Jarmon all did commendable work in the trenches yesterday. Perhaps a healthy Monty and resigning R. Wynn can pick up for the loss of P. Daniels.

If he (Daniels) can't make plays he shouldn't be out there. The Skins have the DLs to shore things up.

It's not worth it Phillip...we true fans admire your grit and desire and coming back from those injuries but don't waste what's left of your career on this season's team....not when the offense is an abortion and you have too many quitters on the roster...

Who knows? Maybe. Maybe not. With this O-line, it is anyone's guess - you might as well burn the playbook.

Is Portis a lousy RB now? Who knows? Maybe, maybe not....

What good would a new coach do, unless he can block.

Posted by: wizard5 | October 12, 2009 12:37 PM | Report abuse

You have to like PD. I think we have more "effort" guys than we give the team credit for. Unfortunately, many of these "effort" guys are not as good as they, or we, believe them to be.

Ground down by the constant stream of negativity about the Skins? Looking for someone to spell you blogging on RI? Y-O-U. Happy now? Heh, heh.

That might work. But the easier path to take would be to study all the excellent posts on RI to soak up the wealth of knowledge contained in these posts. If you do enough of that you will qualify to be an ESPN analyst and make delphic pronouncements like Adam Shifter. See my post above.

Cut him and play Jarmon, what do they have to loose? Tell Daniels thanks for a few years of being average, no sell some real estate or used cars.

Posted by: timchadwick | October 12, 2009 1:01 PM | Report abuse

great, they should continue to start him. This ought to make his sack totals double.

Glad he can still play because we have no worthwhile subs due to player personnel incompetence.

No surprise that he doesn't risk further "enjoy" by playing with a torn muscle...that doesn't sound "enjoy"able at all!!! Zing!!! (www.instantrimshot.com)

Great attitude but Daniels is wasting his time by continuing to play. The season is toast and there's little any one player can do about it.
