Green, Monk Prepare for Hall of Fame Weekend

Okay, we're ready to get you ready for Hall of Fame weekend ... let's start with a photo gallery with some great shots of Darrell Green in action.

Here's video of Darrell talking with Jason Reid recently -- same interview this Q&A came from.

And one more video -- Bobby Mitchell, Charley Taylor and Steve Largent talking about Green and Art Monk -- two guys who will join them as Canton enshrinees (is that a word?) on Saturday. Enjoy ...

The cream rises to the top.

I'm talking Green and Monk ... you understood that, didn't ya Chia?

AL Zeke,

I think I got it...

Respect to Darrell Green and Art Monk; guys who made me the Redskins fan I am today.

Steve Largent = Class Act

Not Class Act = Not Steve Largent

In the first game of Gridiron I saw, Art Monk was the only name I really remembered.

In from Colorado for the ceremony. I forgot how humid it is here!
Can't wait for this weekend.
I've been away from comments most of the offseason, any RI gatherings in Canton this weekend?

Posted by: CoSkins | July 30, 2008 11:10 PM | Report abuse

As a little kid, playing pickup games in the neighborhood, I was always Art Monk.

Don't think there's a shabingus in Canton, but there sure as heck should be.

P Diddy is jet set, so he might be there?

Posted by: Chia Pet | July 30, 2008 11:14 PM | Report abuse

Starbucks in Canton?

I'm certain.

Posted by: Chia Pet | July 30, 2008 11:16 PM | Report abuse

I was always Monk in pick up games as a kid too. I'm now 35, and still wear #81 on my softball jersey.
I love Green, but I'm so friggin happy for Monk I can't stand it...
Having both go in the same year, priceless

Can't go to Canton. I'll be in LA on Friday night and am hosting a charity thing here in Seattle Saturday afternoon. I have dedicated all day Sunday for drinking and watching preseason NFL, an activity for which alcohol is mandatory.

For those who ARE going, please take lots of pictures! I've TiVo'ed the induction ceremony and can't wait to hear what Art Monk has to say.

Jon/Cindy/Jasno, any idea who is introducing Art, Darrell, and Emmitt?

37 here. Moved to the DC area in 1979, just in time to experience that win against the Fins and still have nightmares about the loss to the Raiders the following year; cold sweats, sheets soaking wet.

Somebody asked above who's introducing Monk and Green at the ceremony Saturday... on the WashPo slideshow for Darrell, one of the slides has a note that his son Jared will be introducing him.

Nate, congratulations on the celebrity blogger status!

Bleached taint.

Thanks, kost! A rare honor indeed. I hope I lived up to the lofty standard set by chRIs LaRRy.

Yes, you did very well Nate! I'll be printing it out and sticking it to my bedroom wall, along side the ChRIs lARrY interview, between my posters of Chris Cornell and Monkey.

This years competing teams are-

Here's a preview of the US Revolution-

P. Diddy,

I think I read somewhere ( or wapo) that all the guys are having their sons introduce them.

Posted by: bangkokben | July 31, 2008 4:04 AM | Report abuse

Damn, I can't wait for Saturday. Historic stuff. I'll be in Canton and I've told a couple people here I'll be going to check out this place called Hog Heaven. It doesn't appear to be a Skins joint, but we'll make it one on Saturday night!

By the way, does anyone know what order we'll see the enshrinees (yes, it is a word JLC)? With my luck they'll have Monk and/or Green at the end...

Troubles deepen for Dan Snyder at his Six Flags parks:

Six Flags Skips
Some Dividends

July 31, 2008

Six Flags Inc. won't pay a dividend to holders of certain preferred shares for the second consecutive quarter, the latest sign of trouble for the theme-park operator.

No reason was given Wednesday for the dividend decision.

In April, the company attributed the skipped dividend to a deficit in stockholders' equity, the state of the credit markets and the fact that unpaid dividends accumulate on an interest-free basis.

Six Flags was forced last year to sell seven parks identified as noncore assets and has lowered prices at several of its parks in an effort to keep business running.

Two weeks ago, the company's stock price fell as much as 71% after a massive selloff. Such a large spike in trading suggests that a large investor unloaded its stake.

All three major ratings firms last month lowered their credit ratings on the company, citing the rising price of gas, the slowing economy and competition from other forms of entertainment.

By the way, am I the only one who sees this whole Brett Favre situation as the Madden Curse again hard at work? I hope they NEVER put a Redskin on the front of that game...

Boy, just talkin' to myself up here today...anybody interested in John Lynch? He and the Broncos just parted ways and he could at a minimum be a guy to put in the box on running downs and good mentor for the younger guys. For the vet minimum, I'd do it.

Posted by: brownwood26 | July 31, 2008 8:08 AM | Report abuse

Brown, I'm here.

No thanks on Lynch, I'm not sure how much he's got in the tank, I'd rather see Doughty, and Schweigert learn, and grow, than bring in a stop gap player.

What time on Sunday is the game on and is it on NFL Network?

Darrell Green and Art Monk will be introduced by their sons....The Hall of Fame has been less than, shall we say, forthcoming with details of the ceremony. As of Tuesday, they could not tell me the order in which the enshrinees [that is soooo not a word, DeNunzio] are, um, enshrined.

Lovely piece on Nate on Crowd Noise...Anybody besides me think that's probably the view his wife and kids most often have? "I don't know what my daddy's face looks like," Nathan Jr. told officers, "but I can pick Jasno La Canfora out of a lineup."
